In the original SCP Foundation article, SCP-096 is documented moving at speeds from 35 km/h up to a deliberately redacted figure. The article says its speed appears to depend on the distance to its target, but it does not reveal an exact top speed. Game statistics for SCP-096 are separate and vary by movement state.
How fast is SCP-096 in the original lore?
The SCP Foundation’s SCP-096 article gives a documented range of “thirty-five (35) km/h to ███ km/h” and says the speed appears to depend on distance from the target. That makes 35 km/h the lowest stated figure, not a fixed cruising speed. The upper figure is intentionally hidden, so the article does not establish SCP-096’s exact maximum.
The same fictional account says SCP-096 begins running approximately one to two minutes after someone first views its face. That is the delay before it starts running—not how long it takes to reach the person.
How fast is SCP-096 in SCP: Secret Laboratory?
SCP: Secret Laboratory is a game adaptation, and its movement speeds describe the character in particular gameplay states. The game’s official wiki lists these values:

| Game state | Listed movement speed |
|---|---|
| Docile | 4.2 m/s |
| Distressed or calming | 3.9 m/s |
| Enraged | 8.0 m/s |
| Charging | 18.50 m/s |
The update record for version 14.2.0 says docile speed rose from 3.9 m/s to 4.2 m/s, while distressed/calming speed rose from 3.3 m/s to 3.9 m/s. These are versioned game mechanics, not measurements that fill in the redacted lore figure.
Which speed should you use?
- For the original SCP story: use 35 km/h as the stated lower value; the upper value is redacted and unknown.
- For a match in SCP: Secret Laboratory: use the game value for the character’s current state. The listed charging speed is 18.50 m/s.
Neither set of figures can be treated as the definitive speed across both versions: the fiction article leaves its maximum undisclosed, while the game assigns state-specific movement statistics.
