How Gran Turismo 7 Credits, Car Invitations, and Microtransactions Work

Gran Turismo 7 lets you earn or optionally buy credits, while certain expensive cars also require an invitation. Here is how the two gates interact and what Spec III changed.

You do not have to buy credits to play Gran Turismo 7 or obtain cars. Credits (Cr) can be earned through game progression or purchased as optional PlayStation Store add-ons. An invitation is a separate requirement for certain expensive cars: even with enough credits, you cannot complete the purchase until the invitation condition is met.

PlayStation’s current description of the free Spec III (version 1.65) update says Brand Central now has “unlimited car invitations.” That changes how invitations are presented, but it does not make invited cars free. You still need the listed credit balance, and the official material does not establish universal ticket odds, expiration rules, or whether every invitation-related limitation has disappeared.

The three mechanics to keep separate

Gran Turismo 7 combines three systems that are often confused:

  • Credits: the in-game currency used to purchase vehicles.
  • Invitations: an extra eligibility condition attached to certain expensive cars.
  • Credit add-ons: optional real-money purchases that grant a stated number of credits.

A car can therefore be affordable but unavailable because you lack an invitation, or available to buy but unaffordable because your credit balance is too low. The game does not turn an invitation into a coupon; it only satisfies an access requirement.

What credits are and what they buy

Credits are shown as Cr and function as Gran Turismo 7’s spendable vehicle currency. The online manual describes Brand Central purchases as being paid for with credits won as prize money. PlayStation’s current game page likewise says vehicle purchases require credits, whether those credits come from progression or a paid add-on.

Credits earned through progression

Progression-earned credits come from playing the game and receiving prize money. Official descriptions recognize this as a normal way to obtain the currency, not a fallback reserved for players who refuse microtransactions. The available official material does not provide a single current credits-per-hour figure, a complete event payout table, or a guaranteed time for saving toward a particular car. Your balance and the price shown for the vehicle are the figures that matter at the moment of purchase.

Credits do not guarantee availability

Having enough Cr is sufficient only when the car is available and all other conditions are satisfied. If a car is unaffordable or temporarily sold out, the manual says you can add it to a wish list and receive a notification when it returns. A wish-list entry does not reserve the price or supply; it simply helps you notice when the purchase becomes possible.

How invitations work

An invitation is an additional purchase condition for certain expensive cars. It is not correct to say that every high-priced vehicle needs one. When a listed car requires an invitation, the game checks both the invitation status and your credit balance.

Documented ways to obtain an invitation

The online manual says invitations can be obtained by playing the game and through roulette tickets. That description documents the general mechanic and the routes the manual recognizes; it does not supply a universal drop rate or promise that a particular ticket will produce a specific manufacturer’s invitation.

What the Spec III update changed

PlayStation’s current page for the free Spec III update, version 1.65, says the update added “unlimited car invitations in Brand Central.” The statement is important because it describes a current Brand Central feature rather than only the older ticket-based route. The update itself requires an internet connection.

“Unlimited” should be read no more broadly than the official wording supports. The published description does not enumerate every car covered, explain whether any invitation expires, remove every possible ticket-related scarcity issue, or publish invitation probabilities. It also does not say that cars become free. The credit price remains a separate requirement.

Buying a car: the practical sequence

  1. Open Brand Central and select the manufacturer and vehicle. The car’s listing shows the current credit price and whether an invitation condition applies.
  2. Check your credit balance against the listed Cr amount. Credits earned in the game and credits obtained from an add-on serve the same purchasing purpose once credited to your account.
  3. Check the invitation status. If the listing requires an invitation, you must satisfy that condition in addition to having enough credits. The manual identifies gameplay and roulette tickets as acquisition routes, while the current Spec III description refers to unlimited invitations in Brand Central.
  4. Complete the purchase when both checks pass. The invitation authorizes access; credits pay for the vehicle.
  5. Use the wish list if the car is unaffordable or sold out. The manual says the game can notify you when a wish-listed vehicle returns. You will still need the required credits when it is available.

Earned credits versus paid add-ons

Both routes result in credits that can be used for vehicle purchases, but they answer different player priorities. Progression costs play time rather than direct payment. An add-on trades real money for a fixed credit denomination and can shorten the saving process, but it is not a prerequisite for playing or buying cars.

Route What it provides What the official information establishes
Game progression Credits used for vehicle purchases PlayStation recognizes credits earned through progression; no universal current earning rate is published in the cited material.
PlayStation Store credit add-on A fixed number of credits granted after purchase The US listing snapshot included 100,000, 250,000, 750,000, 2,000,000 and 5,000,000 Cr packages. Prices and offers vary by region and over time.
Invitation through gameplay or roulette tickets Eligibility for certain invitation-required cars The online manual names gameplay and roulette tickets as acquisition methods; it does not publish universal odds.
Brand Central under Spec III Access to the update’s “unlimited car invitations” feature PlayStation’s current version 1.65 description uses that wording. It does not state that every car is covered or that credit prices are removed.

Because the official sources do not give comparable credits-per-hour figures or time-to-car estimates, it would be misleading to promise that one route is always faster. The useful decision is narrower: earn credits if you want to progress without spending additional money; consider an add-on only if you voluntarily value immediate credits more than the purchase price.

What the 2022 economy changes mean today

Polyphony Digital’s March 25, 2022 PlayStation Blog statement provides historical context, not a current payout guide. It announced two notable changes:

  • The upper limit for non-paid credits in player wallets would rise from 20 million Cr to 100 million Cr.
  • Rewards in events in the latter half of World Circuits would increase by approximately 100% on average.

Those figures describe the adjustment announced at that time. They should not be read as a promise that every present-day event pays a particular amount, or that all current rewards are double the original value. No complete, current event-by-event payout table is established by the official material covered here.

Common situations and the correct interpretation

“I have enough credits, but the car is still locked.”

Check whether the listing requires an invitation. Credits satisfy the price, while the invitation satisfies eligibility. If the car is sold out, add it to the wish list and wait for the game’s notification that it has returned.

“I received an invitation, but I still cannot buy the car.”

An invitation does not pay for the vehicle. Confirm that your balance covers the full Cr price and that the listing is currently available. The two requirements are independent.

“I cannot get the invitation I want from a ticket.”

The manual’s ticket reference does not establish a guaranteed outcome or a universal probability. The current Spec III page additionally describes unlimited car invitations in Brand Central, so check the current Brand Central presentation after installing the update rather than assuming that roulette tickets are the only route.

“Do I have to buy a credit pack to continue?”

No official statement here makes paid credits mandatory. PlayStation explicitly describes credits as obtainable through progression as well as through payment. Add-ons are an optional monetization route.

“The add-on denominations or prices look different in my store.”

The cited US Store snapshot listed 100,000, 250,000, 750,000, 2,000,000 and 5,000,000 Cr packages. Store catalogs, pricing, promotions and availability can change by region and date, so treat that list as a snapshot rather than a permanent schedule. Check your own PlayStation Store listing before purchasing.

Internet, version and platform considerations

The Spec III feature is tied to the free version 1.65 update, whose PlayStation description says an internet connection is required for the update. Make sure the game is updated before judging the current Brand Central invitation behavior. The title is available on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5; the credit and invitation principles described here concern Gran Turismo 7’s shared game systems rather than a special paid edition.

Online store content and update descriptions are changeable. If the Brand Central screen, invitation wording or available add-ons in your region differs from the descriptions above, rely on the current in-game listing and your regional PlayStation Store page for the live offer while keeping the fundamental distinction intact: credits pay for the car, and an invitation—when required—unlocks eligibility.

A simple decision checklist

  • Want to avoid extra spending? Earn credits through progression and use the game’s normal purchase flow.
  • Need a specific expensive car? Check both its Cr price and its invitation requirement before planning your purchase.
  • Relying on older advice about roulette-only invitations? Recheck Brand Central after Spec III version 1.65, which PlayStation currently describes as adding unlimited car invitations.
  • Considering a credit add-on? Treat it as optional convenience, verify the denomination and regional price in your own Store, and do not assume it changes invitation eligibility.
  • Saving for a sold-out car? Add it to the wish list so the game can notify you when it returns, then ensure your balance is ready.
