How the Tien Kwan campaign unlocked the Patriot
The EXO-45 Patriot’s arrival was tied to a shared objective in Helldivers 2’s Galactic War: liberate Tien Kwan. PlayStation’s retrospective identifies the planet’s liberation as the reward condition that brought the exosuit to the community: PlayStation’s one-year retrospective.

It was therefore a two-stage unlock. First, the player community completed the planet-wide objective; then individual players needed to meet the game’s own access requirements. Game Director Mikael Eriksson later recalled the tension around whether players would succeed: “I was nervous,” says Eriksson. “We had spent so much time making the Exosuit as good as we could, and now it was down to the community’s ability to actually earn it. What if they’d fail? But eventually they unlocked it… and then all tried to claim it at the same time!”
What individual players needed to do in March 2024
In a March 8, 2024 report, GameSpot said players could unlock the Patriot from their flagship at level 25 after the successful campaign. That is a contemporaneous description of the game’s progression at the time—not confirmation of the current level requirement or requisition cost. GameSpot also reported that the Tien Kwan mission awarded 45 Warbond medals; that was a mission reward, not the method by which the community-wide unlock was achieved. GameSpot’s March 2024 report.

What the EXO-45 Patriot carries
GameSpot described the Patriot as a combat exosuit equipped with a heavy machine gun and a rocket launcher. Those are the documented loadout details relevant to its debut; the available sources do not establish current ammunition, damage, or armor figures.
What changed after the launch
Arrowhead’s December 17, 2024 patch 01.002.001 addressed exosuit durability. The official notes say the EXO-45 Patriot and EXO-49 Emancipator were rebalanced to improve durability and extend combat effectiveness, while noting that exosuits still gradually break down under sustained damage. Is the Tien Kwan unlock still current?
No: the liberation was a March 2024 community event, not a standing current objective. Helldivers 2 remains an active live service, and PlayStation’s news page includes later updates and describes Warbonds as in-game catalogues. The sources reviewed do not establish the Patriot’s current level requirement, requisition cost, or live availability, so the historical level-25 report should not be treated as a verified current instruction.
