The commonly used VALORANT KDA ratio is (kills + assists) ÷ deaths. Add your kills and assists from the same match or set of matches, then divide by your deaths. For example, 20 kills, 7 assists, and 10 deaths gives (20 + 7) ÷ 10 = 2.7. This is a common convention, not a formula Riot officially defines.
What does KDA mean in VALORANT?
KDA may mean either a single ratio calculated from kills, deaths, and assists, or the three-count scoreboard line written as kills/deaths/assists. A line of 20/10/7 means 20 kills, 10 deaths, and 7 assists; it is not itself a ratio. To avoid ambiguity, say whether you mean the ratio or the K/D/A line.
Riot’s Agent Mastery guide defines KD as the kill/death ratio and lists assists separately. It does not define an official KDA ratio. The formula below is therefore best understood as a commonly used convention.
How to calculate the KDA ratio
Let K represent kills, A assists, and D deaths:
KDA ratio = (K + A) ÷ D
- Add the player’s kills and assists for the match or period you are measuring.
- Divide that total by the player’s deaths over the same scope.
For example, with 20 kills, 7 assists, and 10 deaths: (20 + 7) ÷ 10 = 2.7. This is an illustrative calculation, not a population statistic.

What if you have zero deaths?
If D is zero, the ratio is undefined because division by zero has no finite result. Keep the K/D/A line visible, or name the display convention used by a tracker rather than presenting a finite KDA ratio as though it follows from the formula.
For several matches, calculate an aggregate ratio from the totals: (total kills + total assists) ÷ total deaths. This is different from taking the average of each match’s ratio. If the total deaths are zero, the aggregate ratio is also undefined.

How KDA differs from KD and performance scoring
KD omits assists: it compares kills with deaths. KDA, under the common ratio convention, includes assists in the numerator. The K/D/A line keeps all three counts separate, so it shows information a single ratio compresses.
Neither KDA nor KD captures everything Riot measures about a player’s performance. Riot’s Performance Score article, dated September 25, 2026, describes per-round measures including damage, adjusted kills and deaths, trades, assists, agent-normalized utility use, spike plants, and spike defuses. Riot says Performance Score appears in Competitive, Unrated, Swiftplay, and Premier; replaces ACS in several modes; and determines match MVP. It does not affect RR gains or losses.

In an older developer Q&A, Riot Senior Producer Ian Fielding explained that combat score considers factors beyond kills, including damage, assists, damaging utility, first bloods, and streaks. He also distinguished combat score from competitive rank updates, which primarily focus on wins and how decisive they are. This explanation provides context, not a complete description of current scoring.

Before comparing players or your own results, make sure the numbers cover the same scope and use the same definition. Align the match window, queue or mode, agent scope, and metric: KD, the (K + A) ÷ D ratio, or the K/D/A line. A ratio from one match is not directly comparable to an all-mode aggregate without that context.

KDA is only one view of contribution. For a broader comparison, consider the other performance measures Riot describes, such as damage, trades, utility, and spike actions.
Riot documents match and match-history API endpoints, as well as policies for apps that display player statistics. Personal-data access has player opt-in requirements, and the developer portal describes Riot Sign On and production-key requirements.
