There is no verified fixed timer. If you mean Balloon Baby Yoshi in New Super Mario Bros. U, a guide says the lost companion returns to the World Map after you clear Mushroom Heights and beat a few more stages. It describes progress, not a number of minutes.
How to get Balloon Baby Yoshi back in New Super Mario Bros. U
Prima Games’ Acorn Plains guide says Balloon Baby Yoshi reappears on the World Map after you clear Mushroom Heights and beat a few more stages. It does not say exactly how many stages “a few” means, so the guide does not support a precise level count or waiting time.
In practical terms, keep clearing stages and check the World Map for the companion. The described return condition is tied to stage progression, not an established real-time countdown.
Does Baby Yoshi respawn after dying?
That may be a different situation from losing a companion who later returns to the map. A GameFAQs player answer claims Baby Yoshi will not respawn until a game over, with an exception it associates with having five stars. This is player guidance, not a rule confirmed by Nintendo; the available official documentation does not establish that game-over condition.

Which game are you playing?
“Baby Yoshi” can refer to more than one game, so the answer depends on the title and what happened to the character. Nintendo confirms that New Super Mario Bros. U and New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe include Balloon, Bubble, and Glowing Baby Yoshis. In Nintendo’s overview of New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe, Balloon Baby Yoshi floats, Bubble Baby Yoshi traps enemies in bubbles, and Glowing Baby Yoshi illuminates dark areas.
Nintendo’s New Super Mario Bros. U manual explains Baby Yoshi’s abilities and controls but does not give a respawn timer or a return condition. The evidence here therefore does not establish one universal rule across Mario games.

Is the five-minute respawn claim accurate?
A claim that Baby Yoshi takes at least five minutes to return appears in a secondary article, but it is not supported by documentation of the game mechanic. Do not rely on five minutes as a confirmed timer: for the New Super Mario Bros. U case described by Prima Games, stage progress—not elapsed minutes—is the stated condition.
