The distinction that causes confusion is that not every ending route reaches the third act: some conclude in Act 2, while the Snared Silk route continues into Act 3.
What are the three acts in Silksong?
The maintained Hollow Knight Wiki acts reference describes each act as being marked by an introductory title card, with these names and progression:
- Act 1: Pharloom. After the opening, Hornet travels through Pharloom toward the Citadel.
- Act 2: Citadel of Song. This act begins when Hornet enters the Citadel after defeating either the Last Judge or Phantom. The story then moves through the Citadel toward the Cradle.
- Act 3. This is the later story progression reached on the Snared Silk route, leading toward the Lost Lace fight and the final ending.
Does every ending route include Act 3?
No. The act count describes the game’s full structure, not the length of every individual ending route. The Weaver Queen and Twisted Child outcomes can conclude in Act 2. The Snared Silk outcome opens the route into Act 3, where the story continues toward its final ending. The ending reference and PC Gamer’s ending guide also distinguish these outcomes.
Why do players report different act counts?
A playthrough that ends with an Act 2 conclusion may never show the player Act 3, which can make the game seem shorter in structure. Reaching an Act 2 ending does not change the overall count: the complete story progression described by the acts reference has three acts, but the route to the third depends on the ending pursued.

The specific act breakdown comes from the maintained Hollow Knight Wiki reference, rather than a direct Team Cherry statement. The official Team Cherry site provides game and developer context but does not state the act count. Treat three acts as the documented reference breakdown, not as a quoted developer announcement.
