Final Fantasy XIII requires 60 GB of available storage on PC, according to its current Steam listing. Older console reports give different figures: 18.3 GB for an optional Xbox 360 installation and 38 GB of PS3 game data. Those numbers refer to different editions and storage measures, so they are not directly interchangeable.
Final Fantasy XIII storage requirements by platform
| Platform and edition | Reported storage figure | What it measures |
|---|---|---|
| PC, Steam listing | 60 GB | Available storage required by Steam; this is not a measured installed size. Steam |
| Xbox 360 retail edition, reported in 2010 | 18.3 GB total | Optional installation across three discs: 5.9 GB, 5.8 GB and 6.6 GB. Kotaku |
| PS3 edition, reported in 2010 | 38 GB | Reported PS3 game data; the report does not establish a newer installation measurement. Kotaku |
| Microsoft Store PC edition | Not stated | Microsoft’s listing identifies the PC edition but does not provide a storage-size value. Microsoft Store |
What the 60 GB PC figure means
Steam’s requirement says “60 GB available space” for the PC version. Treat that as the amount of free storage Steam says to have available, not as proof that a fresh installation occupies exactly 60 GB. Steam also lists the same storage requirement under its minimum and recommended requirements. Steam

The available sources confirm the requirement but do not establish why the PC port needs that amount of space. It is therefore more accurate to report Steam’s figure than to guess at the size or contents of the game’s files.
Why the older console numbers differ
Xbox 360: optional installs across three discs
A February 2010 report said the Xbox 360 retail release shipped on three discs. It listed optional installs of 5.9 GB, 5.8 GB and 6.6 GB, adding up to 18.3 GB. That is a historical figure for the Xbox 360 disc edition—not a current download-size estimate for Xbox One or Xbox Series consoles. Kotaku

PS3: reported game data
The same 2010 report gave 38 GB for PS3 game data. That figure describes the PS3 edition in that historical comparison; it is not a PC free-space requirement, and the report does not provide a newer PS3 installation measurement. Kotaku
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Which number should you use?
- Playing on PC through Steam: budget 60 GB of available storage.
- Playing the original Xbox 360 disc version: the 2010 report’s 18.3 GB is the optional multi-disc installation figure.
- Playing on PS3: the historical report’s 38 GB refers to game data for that edition.
- Playing an Xbox backward-compatible version: the old Xbox 360 installation figure does not establish the current download size.
“File size” can mean free space required, installed game data, or data stored across physical discs. Check the platform and edition before comparing figures; a disc count or historical install report is not the same measure as a current storefront requirement.
