For the standard black Sony DualShock 4, GameStop’s September 10, 2026 quote listed the following maximums. The page said the offer expired at the end of that business day.

Cash or store credit: which pays more?
In that dated standard-controller quote, store credit was higher than cash: regular credit was up to $20 versus up to $14 cash, and the Pro quote was up to $22 credit versus up to $15.40 cash. Choose credit if you value a larger amount to spend at GameStop; choose cash if you prefer money rather than store credit. The current offer may differ.

Does the controller have to work?
GameStop says the controller must be in full working condition for the full quoted value. Its general trade terms say condition and value are determined at GameStop’s discretion, and that good condition and all necessary components are needed for the highest value. A damaged or incomplete controller may receive less or be rejected; the online maximum does not establish a value for a particular condition.
Does the controller’s color or edition matter?
Yes. GameStop has separate quote listings for different DualShock 4 variants, so do not assume an ordinary black controller’s quote applies to a color or special edition—or vice versa. These expired quote examples show why you should look up the exact model:

- Find the exact listing. Search GameStop’s trade lookup for the standard black controller, the color edition, or the special edition you own. Match the model rather than choosing a listing just because it looks similar.
- Check the quote date and terms. Note whether the displayed figure is for cash or credit and whether it is a regular or Pro quote. An expired online quote is not a current offer.
- Confirm with a participating store. GameStop’s controller program applies only to select products at select stores in the United States and Guam. Contact the local store to confirm it accepts your model and ask about a current quote.
- Bring the controller and necessary components for assessment. The store determines condition and final value; trades are subject to store approval and are final.
GameStop trade-in page and program terms explain that availability is limited to select products and stores. The available information does not establish one stable price across every PS4 controller or condition.
