PlayStation Plus monthly games are added to your library for as long as your membership is active. Add-on DLC is a separate purchase: for a game from the rotating Game Catalog, you can use that DLC only while you can also access the base game. If your membership lapses or the game leaves the catalog, access to its add-ons goes with it until you regain or buy the base game. PlayStation also says DLC and add-ons are not supported while streaming a title.
Monthly games and the Game Catalog are different benefits
Monthly games are a recurring PlayStation Plus benefit. They are offered each calendar month and, once added to your library, can be downloaded and played while your membership is active. PlayStation’s instructions for claiming them are on its monthly games support page.

The Game Catalog is a separate, rotating library. PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium include access to it; a suitable membership is required to download eligible games. Titles can leave the catalog, so being able to play one today does not mean it will remain available throughout a long playthrough. How to claim a monthly game
- On PS5: Open PlayStation Plus, go to Benefits, and choose Monthly Games. Select a game and choose Download.
- On PS4: Open PlayStation Plus, choose Monthly Games, select a game, then choose Add to Library and Download.
Claiming a monthly game does not make it a permanent purchase: access remains tied to an active membership. The process and benefit terms are described in PlayStation’s monthly games instructions.
What happens to DLC bought for a catalog game?
DLC and add-ons are separate from the base game. PlayStation says you can purchase DLC for a Game Catalog title, but that purchase does not grant access to the game itself. You need access to the base game to use its add-ons.

- If your membership expires, access to the catalog game and its associated DLC/add-ons ends.
- If the base game leaves the catalog, you also lose access to the associated DLC/add-ons through that catalog entitlement.
- If you later resubscribe or buy the base game, purchased DLC becomes usable again, provided you can access the compatible base game.
These are the terms stated in the PlayStation Canada Game Catalog FAQ. As this is a Canadian support page, check local storefront terms if you need region-specific confirmation.
Can you use DLC while streaming a game?
No. PlayStation’s FAQ says DLC and add-ons are not supported when streaming a title. If using purchased add-ons matters, download the game to a supported console rather than relying on streaming, and confirm that your membership and the title support that option.

For streaming, PlayStation’s catalog guide states a minimum connection speed of 5 Mbps and 15 Mbps for 1080p. These are PlayStation’s published thresholds, not a guarantee of smooth performance; actual results can vary. See PlayStation’s Game Catalog access and streaming guide.

Choose a tier based on the games and access you need
- Choose a plan with monthly games if you want that monthly benefit without relying on the rotating catalog.
- Choose Extra or Premium if you want Game Catalog access, and check whether a particular title is currently available before planning around it.
- Premium adds the Classics Catalog and Game Trials in PlayStation’s US plan description; verify the benefits offered in your region.
- If you plan to buy DLC, consider how long the base game is expected to remain available and whether downloading or streaming suits you. Streaming does not support DLC/add-ons.
