When it releases, installation will be handled through the storefront where you own the entitlement: Xbox, Microsoft Store on Windows, PlayStation 5, or Steam. Forza’s announcement does not yet publish a definitive, expansion-specific menu path, so the steps below separate confirmed entitlement information from general platform guidance.
What is confirmed about Forza Horizon 6 Expansion 1
Playground Games has announced the first Premium Expansion for Forza Horizon 6 on January 21, 2027. The date applies across the announced platforms, but it is a future release date rather than a current download date.

You can obtain Expansion 1 through one of four routes:
- Premium Edition, which includes the base game and the Premium add-ons.
- Premium Upgrade, which adds the Premium content to a copy of the base game or an eligible Game Pass subscription.
- The Expansions Bundle.
- A separate purchase of Expansion 1 when the standalone listing becomes available.
Premium Edition and Premium Upgrade are documented as including both Expansions 1 and 2. Expansion 2 has no announced date in the available official material, so owning an edition that includes it does not make it downloadable now.

There is no published Expansion 1 feature list, expansion-specific storage requirement, or official menu-by-menu installation procedure yet. Those details may appear in the platform listings or a later Forza support update.

If you already own the base game, Premium Upgrade is the relevant Premium route. If you do not own the base game, Premium Edition is the package that supplies it. Before buying, read the listing for the exact platform and storefront you intend to use; entitlements are attached to that store account, not merely to the game title.
Check your platform and storefront before release
The same game can appear in more than one storefront on a platform, and the store used for the purchase determines where the add-on is recognized. Confirm all three of these details:

- Platform: Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC, PlayStation 5, or Steam on PC.
- Storefront: the Xbox/Microsoft Store ecosystem or Steam, rather than assuming every PC copy shares DLC ownership.
- Account: the account currently signed in on the device must be the account that bought the edition, upgrade, bundle, or standalone expansion.
Forza states that a digital Xbox Series X|S or Microsoft Store Windows PC purchase can be used on both of those platforms and carries save profiles and DLC entitlements without a second purchase. The statement does not include Steam. Forza separately confirms cross-play and cross-save across Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, PlayStation 5, and Steam. Cross-save means your progress can travel between supported platforms; it does not establish that a DLC purchase transfers between unrelated storefronts.
Do not therefore buy Expansion 1 on one PC storefront expecting the other PC storefront to unlock it automatically. Use the storefront associated with the entitlement you plan to play on.
What to do before January 21, 2027
1. Confirm the entitlement
Open the store account that owns your copy and inspect the edition or add-on list. Look for Premium Edition, Premium Upgrade, Expansions Bundle, or an Expansion 1 purchase. If you have Premium Upgrade, verify that the base game is installed or that your Game Pass subscription is an eligible one; the upgrade does not replace the game itself.

2. Update the base game
Install any pending Forza Horizon 6 update before attempting to add the expansion. A current game build is a sensible prerequisite for new downloadable content, although Forza has not published a specific update number for Expansion 1.

The May 2026 base-game preload guidance lists 135 GB of free space on Xbox Series X, 130 GB on Xbox Series S, and 160 GB plus an SSD on PC. These figures describe the base game, not Expansion 1. Keep additional space available and check the current store listing after the expansion releases for its actual download and installation requirement. Do not treat the base-game figures as an expansion size.
4. Sign in to the purchasing account
On a shared console or PC, switch to the account that owns the entitlement before opening the library. If the game is supplied through a subscription, confirm that the subscription is active and eligible for the Premium Upgrade you purchased.

How to install Expansion 1 when it releases
The following is general storefront guidance, not a quoted Forza-specific procedure. Forza’s cited announcement confirms the date and entitlements but does not yet provide an exact menu path. Labels can change with system software updates.
Xbox Series X|S
- Sign in to the Xbox account that owns Premium Edition, Premium Upgrade, the Expansions Bundle, or the standalone expansion.
- Open your game library and select Forza Horizon 6.
- Open the game’s management or add-on area and look for Expansion 1. If it is included with your edition, it may appear as owned rather than as a separate purchase.
- Choose the download or install command for the add-on. If the button still shows a price, stop and verify the account and edition instead of buying again.
- Wait for the add-on and any required game update to finish, then launch the game. Follow any in-game prompt that appears after the content is installed.
Xbox and Microsoft Store PC are the two platforms covered by Forza’s stated cross-buy relationship. A digital purchase in that ecosystem is intended to carry the DLC entitlement between Xbox Series X|S and Microsoft Store Windows PC without repurchase.
Microsoft Store on Windows PC
- Open the Microsoft Store or the Windows Xbox app using the account that made the purchase.
- Go to your library and select Forza Horizon 6, then open its available add-ons or manage-installation view.
- Find Expansion 1 and select install. If the store asks you to purchase it despite an included entitlement, check that you are using the same Microsoft account and that the game or eligible subscription is recognized.
- Choose the SSD installation location with enough free capacity, allow the download to complete, and install any pending base-game update.
- Start the game and check for the expansion’s in-game availability. The precise in-game activation screen has not been announced.
The 160 GB and SSD figures published for PC apply to the base-game preload. They are not a promise that Expansion 1 will fit within exactly that amount of free space.

Steam on PC
- Sign in to the Steam account that purchased the game or the Steam version of the add-on.
- Open the Steam Library, select Forza Horizon 6, and open the game’s Properties or downloadable-content view.
- Check whether Expansion 1 is listed as owned and enabled. If it is a separate purchase, complete that purchase on Steam; a Microsoft Store or Xbox entitlement is not established as transferable to Steam.
- Allow Steam to download the DLC and any game update, and confirm that the installation drive has sufficient free space.
- Launch the game after the download completes. If the content is not recognized, use Steam’s account and DLC ownership information first, then check the game’s current update status.
Forza confirms cross-play and cross-save support involving Steam, but that confirmation should not be read as a cross-store DLC guarantee.
PlayStation 5
- Use the PlayStation Network account that owns the PlayStation 5 edition or the Expansion 1 purchase.
- Open your game library or the game’s add-on management screen and select Forza Horizon 6.
- Look for Expansion 1 in the add-on list. An included add-on should show as owned or available to download; a price generally indicates that the current account has not been granted that entitlement.
- Start the download, install any required game update, and leave enough console storage for both files.
- Launch the game after installation. If an in-game prompt is required, follow the prompt shown by the current build.
The published cross-play and cross-save statement includes PlayStation 5, but the Xbox/Microsoft Store cross-buy statement does not. Treat PlayStation purchases as separate storefront entitlements unless a future official listing says otherwise.

The store shows a price
- Check that you are signed in to the purchasing account.
- Confirm that you bought Premium Edition, Premium Upgrade, the Expansions Bundle, or the standalone Expansion 1 listing—not a different edition.
- On Microsoft platforms, verify whether your access depends on an eligible Game Pass subscription and that the subscription is active.
- Check that you are viewing the same storefront used for the purchase. Steam, Microsoft Store, Xbox, PlayStation 5, and other storefronts should not be treated as interchangeable.
The add-on is owned but will not download
- Install all pending base-game and system updates.
- Check free storage and the selected installation drive. The published 130 GB, 135 GB, and 160 GB figures are base-game preload figures, so consult the current listing for expansion-specific space.
- Restart the storefront or console and re-open the game’s add-on management page.
- Verify that the account’s purchase history shows the entitlement. Avoid repurchasing until the account and storefront have been checked.
The expansion installs but is unavailable in-game
- Close and relaunch the game after the download and update finish.
- Confirm that the add-on is enabled in the platform’s DLC or manage-game screen.
- Check the current Forza listing or support information for any release-time activation requirement. No exact in-game activation menu has been published yet.
- If your progress is present but the DLC is not, remember that cross-save carries save data; it does not by itself prove that the DLC entitlement transferred from another storefront.
Expansion 2: what you can and cannot access yet
Premium Edition and Premium Upgrade are described as including Expansions 1 and 2, while Expansion 2 is scheduled for a later date that has not been announced in the available material. You can own the right to receive it without being able to download it today. Do not interpret an empty Expansion 2 add-on entry as a failed installation until Forza publishes its release timing.
When to recheck the official listing
Check the current platform store page and Forza’s official announcements on or after January 21, 2027 for the final download size, exact menu labels, platform-specific requirements, and any change to the release date or entitlement wording. Those details are more authoritative than a pre-release menu description and may differ between Xbox, Microsoft Store PC, Steam, and PlayStation 5.
