There is no universal X-Factor button or shared objective: each ability has its own activation and knockout conditions.
Activate a roster player’s X-Factor
- Choose the mode. These steps apply to roster X-Factors in regular gameplay and Franchise. Superstar uses a separate ability progression system, covered below.
- Select the player before the game. In Franchise, go to Adjust Lineup and select the players you want active. An EA-hosted forum support reply says up to three X-Factor players can be active on offense and three on defense; this limit is described in a community support response, not a formal EA manual. Read the EA Forums response.
- Check the ability description in-game. Find the player’s activation objective and its knockout condition. The objective tells you what to accomplish during the game; the knockout condition tells you what can end the effect.
- Complete the objective. Play toward the specific requirement shown for that X-Factor. When the objective is met, the ability enters its active state.
Don’t look for one generic activation control. EA’s Madden NFL 24 accessibility guide directs players to platform-specific control layouts but does not identify a universal X-Factor activation button. Check the Madden NFL 24 accessibility guide.

Why the activation requirement depends on the player
EA’s Madden NFL 24 Season 1 notes give different objectives for different abilities. For example, Jalen Hurts’s Run & Gun required three consecutive passes for 5 or more yards in the air, while Austin Ekeler’s Wrecking Ball required three rushes for 10 or more yards. These are examples from the game’s 2023 season notes, not a universal checklist. The notes also specify knockout conditions, so check both requirements for the player in your current game. Roster X-Factors and Superstar abilities are different
Superstar has its own progression and ability system. EA describes drive-based Player Grading and ability tiers tied to player ratings and successful on-field actions; it is not the same process as selecting a roster X-Factor and completing that ability’s objective. Superstar is not available in the PlayStation 4 or Xbox One versions of Madden NFL 24. EA’s accessibility guide also notes that mode availability varies by platform. Read EA’s Superstar deep dive.

If an X-Factor doesn’t activate
- Confirm the player is selected to be active. In Franchise, check the player’s status under Adjust Lineup.
- Re-read the exact activation objective. Similar abilities can require different actions or counts; progressing toward the wrong objective will not activate the ability.
- Check whether the effect was knocked out. The ability description’s knockout condition may have ended an effect that had already activated.
- Confirm the mode and platform. Superstar abilities follow a different progression system, and Madden NFL 24 mode availability differs between platform editions.
- Use the controls and description for your version. Menus and controls can vary by platform and mode; EA’s guide provides platform-specific control layouts.
