To activate an existing Epic Games account, sign in to the Epic Games account page, use the resend link in the unverified-email notice, then open Epic’s message and select VERIFY YOUR EMAIL. If you are setting up a new account, choose Create your account on Epic’s sign-in page and complete the emailed security-code step. “Activation” can mean either of these processes.
Verify the email on an existing account
- Go to the Epic Games account page and sign in.
- If the email address is unverified, find the yellow notice and select click here to resend.
- Open the verification email from Epic and select VERIFY YOUR EMAIL. If it does not arrive, check your spam folder.
Create an Epic Games account
If you do not already have an account, go to Epic’s sign-in page and choose Create your account. Follow the prompts to provide your date of birth and choose a sign-in method. When you use email, Epic sends a six-digit security code to that address; enter it to continue. You can then finish account setup and either complete or skip the optional platform-linking step. See Epic’s account creation instructions.

If you have played Fortnite, Fall Guys, or Rocket League on a console, you may already have an Epic account. Try signing in with the platform account you used to play and complete that account before creating another one. Epic also recommends enabling two-factor authentication to add security.
If activation or sign-in does not work
The verification email or code never arrives
- For an existing account, return to the account page and use the resend link in the unverified-email notice; check spam for the message.
- For a new account, use Resend code in the creation flow. If you entered the wrong email address, use the change-email option there.
Your credentials are rejected
Confirm which email address is associated with the Epic account and use Forgot Password if you need to reset the password. If the credentials seem right but still fail, Epic recommends turning off browser autofill and checking your keyboard language. Its sign-in error guidance covers these checks.

A console account is linked to another Epic account
Do not create another account until you identify which Epic account holds the platform link. Try signing in with the account email or check which Epic account is connected to your console account, following Epic’s guidance for account and sign-in errors.
Sign-in loops, cookie errors, or Launcher problems
Refresh the page and make sure cookies are enabled. Try another browser or a private window; if the loop persists, clear the browser cache and cookies. For the Epic Games Launcher, close it, clear its cache, reopen it, and try again. Disconnect a VPN or proxy while troubleshooting. See Epic’s instructions for a sign-in loop.

Your account is inactive, or you lost access to email or 2FA
Epic says an inactive-account error requires account recovery before you can sign in. If you cannot access the registered email or your two-factor authentication method, start the Epic account recovery process from the sign-in page. Follow the prompts; if the available email or 2FA checks are inaccessible, choose the lost-access option.
Quick Recap
Best Value
- An Epic Games account is required to redeem an Epic Games Store Card code
- If playing on a console platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch or Mobile) you need to link your Epic Games account to that gaming platform (one time) to redeem your gift card code
- The 16 digit code on the back of the card WILL NOT work if redeemed directly through your gaming platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch, Mobile, etc.)
- Note: Nintendo devices do not support Fortnite Shared Wallet, so V-Bucks purchased using your account balance will not show up on your Nintendo device. However, if you purchase items in the web Item Shop — or another platform where you play Fortnite — those items will be available in your Locker across all platforms.
