Use the server console to grant administrator rights. Have the player join at least once, run deeplist, then run op with the correct identifier. To remove the privilege later, run deop with that same identifier. On RimWorld Together version 25.12.13.1 and newer, use the username the player created when joining; on older versions, use the player ID (UID) shown by deeplist.
The three commands you need
RimWorld Together manages administrator status through the server console rather than a confirmed administrator-list configuration file. The basic sequence is:

deeplist— displays connected players and their identifiers.op <identifier>— grants administrator rights to the specified player.deop <identifier>— removes administrator rights from that player.
Replace <identifier> with the value your server version expects. The RimWorld Together wiki says that version 25.12.13.1 introduced a change: use the player’s username instead of the UID. Guides written for other versions instruct you to copy the player ID from deeplist. Because command behavior can depend on the server build, check your version before choosing the value.

Before you grant access
Make the player join once
The server must know the player’s identity before you can target it. Hosting guides advise having the person connect to the RimWorld Together server at least once, and several specifically say the player should be online when you issue the command. Ask the player to remain connected while you perform the lookup and promotion. If the player has never joined, deeplist cannot provide a usable entry for that account.

Confirm which server is being changed
Open the console for the actual RimWorld Together instance that the player uses. A hosting account can contain multiple servers, test instances, or environments, and a command entered in the wrong console will affect the wrong player list. Verify the server name, address, and active instance in your hosting panel before running any command.
Check the server version
The identifier rule is the main compatibility issue:

The exact place where a host displays a RimWorld Together version differs by provider. Use the version shown by your server or mod installation, or ask the host which build is running. Do not assume that a guide written for one build applies unchanged to another.

Sign in to the control panel that runs your server and open its live server console. Providers use different labels and layouts, so the control may be called Console, Server Console, or a similar term. You need the interactive command window, not a text editor for a JSON or other configuration file.

For a hosted RimWorld Together server, Godlike.Host provides its own game panel for server management. RimWorld Together’s code is licensed CC BY-NC-ND 4.0, a NonCommercial licence (github.com/RimWorld-Together/Rimworld-Together, 10 Oct 2026).
Do not stop the server merely to run op or deop. Advice about stopping a server before changing configuration files concerns file edits; it does not establish that a shutdown is required for these console commands. If your host documents a special procedure for its console, follow that provider-specific instruction.
Find the player’s identifier with deeplist
- Make sure the player is connected to the server.
- Enter
deeplistin the server console and submit it. - Read the connected-player entries returned by the console.
- Identify the correct player by their in-game name and copy the associated ID exactly if your version uses UIDs.
The output is also useful when you need to distinguish between players with similar names. Keep the console output private: the RimWorld Together wiki warns against sharing UIDs. If you are on version 25.12.13.1 or newer, record the username the player created rather than publishing or distributing the UID.

Choose the right identifier
Version 25.12.13.1 and newer: username
Type the username exactly as the player entered it when joining. The username is not a nickname you invent for the command. Preserve capitalization, spaces, punctuation, and any other characters that appear in the in-game name. GameHostBros’ instructions describe the syntax as op PlayerName and emphasize that the name must be the one known by the server.

If the command does not work on a server that appears to be new enough, check for a spelling or capitalization mismatch, confirm that the player is online, and verify the actual running version. If those checks pass, try the UID displayed by deeplist; mixed-version installations and host updates can leave command behavior different from the documentation for the nominal version.
Older versions: UID from deeplist
For older builds, copy the player’s ID from the deeplist entry and use that value after op. Do not substitute a display name if the server expects a UID. Copy the identifier without adding punctuation or changing characters. If more than one player is connected, match the UID to the intended name before submitting the command.
When the version is uncertain
Use the username first only when you have reason to believe the server is running 25.12.13.1 or newer. If the console rejects it or produces no change, repeat the lookup with deeplist and try the associated UID. This is a compatibility fallback, not proof that every version accepts both forms. Record which form worked for your specific server so future staff can use the same syntax.

- Leave the intended player connected.
- Open the server console for the correct instance.
- Run
deeplistif you need to confirm the current identity or UID. - Enter
op <identifier>, replacing the placeholder with the username or UID required by your version. For example, the structure isop PlayerName; do not type the angle brackets. - Submit the command and wait for the console response or the player’s next interaction with the server.
Use the identifier exactly once after op, with the same spelling and case the server recognizes. If your host’s console adds a prompt character automatically, enter only the command text rather than copying the prompt.

Have the new admin open the admin controls
After promotion, the player must enable the game’s development controls before the administrative interface is available. The reported path is:
- Join the server as the newly promoted player.
- Press Esc to open the pause menu.
- Open Options.
- Enable Development Mode.
- Return to the Esc menu and open Admin, or use the admin control at the top right of the screen if that is where the current version exposes it.
The exact placement of the control can differ by version. An admin menu may allow changes such as the mod list and difficulty, and it can bypass mod-list restrictions. Those powers affect the shared server, so agree on who may use them and when before handing out the role.
Remove administrator rights
Use the same identifier form that successfully promoted the player. Run:
- Confirm the player’s username or UID, using
deeplistwhen necessary. - Enter
deop <identifier>in the server console. - Have the player reconnect or reopen the relevant menu if the old controls remain visible during the current session.
For example, if you promoted an account with op PlayerName, remove it with deop PlayerName. If the older server accepted a UID, use that same UID after deop. Do not switch identifier types midway through the removal attempt.

Useful commands around administration

Command and player names are case-sensitive. When a command targets a name, reproduce the in-game spelling exactly rather than relying on a shortened version.
Troubleshoot a failed promotion
The player does not appear in deeplist
- Ask the player to connect fully and remain online while you run the command.
- Confirm that you opened the console for the same server address they used.
- Run
listto distinguish an empty server from a detailed-lookup problem. - If the player still does not appear, have them disconnect and join again, then repeat
deeplist.
The username command has no effect
- Check whether the server is actually running 25.12.13.1 or newer.
- Copy the username from the player’s created in-game name, including capitalization and punctuation.
- Verify that the player is still connected.
- Try the UID associated with that player in
deeplistif the version or host implementation may be older or mixed.
The UID command fails
- Make sure you copied the ID belonging to the intended player, not another connected account.
- Check for omitted or extra characters.
- On version 25.12.13.1 and newer, retry with the exact username instead, because the documented identifier changed.
The player was promoted but cannot find Admin
- Have the player enable Development Mode through Esc > Options.
- Check both the Esc menu and the top-right area of the game window; versions expose the admin control in different places.
- Ask the player to reconnect after the promotion if the interface was already open when the command ran.
- Confirm that the command targeted the correct account and server instance.
Changes appear to affect the wrong player
Stop and recheck the identity before issuing another command. Use deeplist, match the in-game name to the identifier, and verify the server address in the hosting panel. Because names and identifiers are case-sensitive, a transcription error can target a different account or fail silently depending on the host’s console response.
Operational and security considerations
Do not treat an unconfirmed config file as the source of truth
Search results for this procedure did not establish an adminlist configuration file. The documented operational method is op and deop in the server console. Avoid editing arbitrary JSON files based on a guide for another RimWorld Together release. If your host provides a separate, version-specific configuration reference, follow that reference rather than assuming an administrator file exists.
Protect player identifiers
The UID can be sensitive account information. Keep console output restricted to people who administer the server, and do not post UIDs in public chat, tickets, screenshots, or community guides. On newer servers, use the username workflow and share only the minimum information required to complete the promotion.
Limit who receives the role
An admin can reach controls that change the mod list and difficulty and can bypass mod-list restrictions. Grant the role only to people who need those powers, explain what changes are off-limits during an active colony, and remove access with deop when the person no longer needs it.
What is and is not established about automatic administration
One hosting guide claims that the first player to join during server setup is automatically an admin. That statement appears in only one source and should not be treated as a universal RimWorld Together rule. The reliable, repeatable procedure is to identify the player and issue op from the console. If a newly installed server gives someone administrative access automatically, verify that behavior on your own build before relying on it for future staff changes.
