To add an MLO (a GTA V interior or map mod) to FiveM, install it as a resource: create a resource folder, put the supplied assets in a stream subfolder, add an fxmanifest.lua that identifies the resource as a map, register any required .ytyp file, and add an exact-match ensure line to server.cfg. Restart the server and test the location in-game. Missing .ymap placement files or .ybn collision files account for many apparently broken installations.

What an MLO is in FiveM
MLO is commonly used for a custom GTA V interior or map package. Unlike a script that runs Lua or JavaScript logic, an MLO mainly supplies map assets: models, textures, collision data and placement information. FiveM loads those assets through its resource system, so an MLO is installed like a map resource rather than copied into the base GTA V installation.
A working resource normally has three important parts:

- A uniquely named folder inside the server’s
resourcesdirectory. - A
streamfolder containing the asset files supplied with the MLO. - An
fxmanifest.luadescribing the resource and marking it as a map.
Some interiors also require a .ytyp file to be registered as a data file. If the creator supplied a _manifest.ymf, it may be required for placed entities to load correctly. The exact contents vary by pack, so do not delete files simply because their extensions look unfamiliar.
Prepare the server and the MLO files
Use a server-side resource directory
Work in the FiveM server’s resources directory, not in the GTA V installation directory and not in the client-only mods folder. Make a backup of the server configuration before editing it. If the MLO is replacing an existing building, also keep a copy of the original resource so you can remove the replacement cleanly.
Inspect the archive before copying
Extract the download to a temporary location and look for folders and files such as stream, .ymap, .ybn, .ydr, .ytd, .ytyp, _manifest.ymf and an existing fxmanifest.lua. Some creators put an extra outer folder around the actual resource. The folder you eventually ensure must be the one that directly contains fxmanifest.lua and stream; ensuring a parent folder one level too high will not load the map correctly.

Use a simple, unique name such as my_interior or my-awesome-mlo. The name is also used in server.cfg, and community installation guidance recommends matching it exactly, including capitalization. Avoid spaces and changing the name after you have added the ensure line unless you update the configuration at the same time.
Install the MLO step by step
1. Create the resource folder
The Cfx.re beginner guide for map mods starts by creating a new folder in the server’s resources directory. For example:

└── my_interior/Square-bracket folders are commonly used as containers. They are not part of the resource name when you ensure a resource inside them; the path in that case is [mapmods]/my_interior.

2. Add the stream folder
Inside the new resource, create a folder named exactly stream and copy the MLO’s asset files into it:

Do not put the files in a second nested stream folder such as stream/my_interior/stream unless the package specifically documents that layout. A misplaced file is invisible to the resource even though it exists on disk.
Keep every supplied .ymap in stream. A .ymap is the placement information that tells the game where map entities belong. If those files are omitted, the interior’s models can be present in the resource without appearing at the intended location.
3. Create or check fxmanifest.lua
Create a plain-text file named fxmanifest.lua directly in the resource’s top-level folder. The minimal map manifest shown in the official Cfx.re guide is:

this_is_a_map 'yes'Do not place this file inside stream. FiveM reads the manifest from the resource root. The fx_version line selects the manifest format, game 'gta5' identifies the game, and lua54 'yes' enables the Lua version used by the guide’s minimal example. The line that matters specifically for a map is this_is_a_map 'yes'.
The resource-manifest reference describes this_is_a_map as a flag that marks the resource as a GTA map and causes map storage to be reloaded when the resource loads. Its value can be any string; using 'yes' follows the official example and is the clearest choice. Treat that behavior as a manifest feature, not as a request to add arbitrary map flags.
4. Register a supplied .ytyp file
A .ytyp describes archetypes used by map assets. The Cfx.re data-files reference lists DLC_ITYP_REQUEST as a valid data-file key and identifies it as equivalent to PERMANENT_ITYP_FILE. When an MLO includes a .ytyp that must be registered, a commonly used pattern is:

The files entry makes the stream contents available to the resource, while the data_file entry tells FiveM how to mount the type-definition file. This exact combination is widely used in community installation examples; follow the MLO creator’s manifest when it supplies one, because a pack may use a different filename or include more than one type file.

Community advice is inconsistent about that key, and it is not established as necessary here. Use the documented DLC_ITYP_REQUEST form when the pack requires a .ytyp, and avoid adding data-file lines for files the package does not contain.
5. Generate _manifest.ymf when the pack requires it
For placed entities, the Cfx.re beginner guide instructs map creators to generate and save _manifest.ymf with CodeWalker’s Manifest Generator. The guide states that this file is needed for models to load correctly. If the download already includes _manifest.ymf, leave it in the resource’s stream folder. If the creator specifically tells you to generate it, use CodeWalker and save the generated file with that exact name in stream before testing.
This step is not a substitute for the .ymap files. The manifest helps the game load the resource’s placed entities; the placement files still need to be present.
6. Check the finished folder layout
Before editing the server configuration, compare your files with a layout like this:

└── placement.ymapNames and file counts will differ by MLO. The important relationships are that fxmanifest.lua is at the resource root, map assets are under stream, and no required file was left in the temporary extraction directory.
7. Add the resource to server.cfg
Add an ensure line to the server’s server.cfg:

ensure [mapmods]/my_interiorThe spelling and capitalization must match the actual folder path. An entry such as ensure My_Interior can fail when the directory is named my_interior. Community guides also commonly place map resources after foundational resources such as spawnmanager, sessionmanager and the server’s framework. This ordering is common practice rather than a universal Cfx.re requirement; use the framework’s documented order when it specifies one.
Do not add the .ytyp filename as an ensure target. FiveM starts resources, not individual streamed assets. The manifest is responsible for declaring the files inside the resource.

Restart the server after saving both the manifest and server.cfg. A full restart is the safest first test because it verifies that the resource is discovered during normal startup. Once the server is running, connect with a client and travel to the MLO’s documented coordinates or entrance.
Test more than the doorway. Walk across every floor, enter rooms, inspect stairs and elevators, and look at exterior walls from several angles. Check that textures remain visible while moving and that other players can enter the same space. If the package includes a known command or teleport location, use the creator’s instructions rather than inventing a command.
How to read the manifest and diagnose startup errors

If the console reports that a resource cannot be found, check the folder path in ensure first. If it finds the resource but the map does not appear, inspect the stream contents and manifest declarations before changing unrelated server settings.
Troubleshoot an MLO that does not work
The interior does not appear
- Confirm that the resource is in the server’s
resourcesdirectory and thatserver.cfgensures the exact folder name. - Open the resource root and verify that
fxmanifest.luais not inside another nested folder. - Check that all supplied
.ymapfiles are instream. Missing placement files are a common reason for an interior not appearing at its location. - Verify
this_is_a_map 'yes'is present and spelled correctly. - If the pack includes a
.ytyp, compare its filename with theDLC_ITYP_REQUESTpath in the manifest. - Restart the server after every structural change; reconnecting without restarting may leave the old resource state running.
Players fall through floors
Missing collision data is the leading check. Look for the MLO’s .ybn files and make sure they are inside stream alongside the other assets. A model can render normally while its collision is absent, which produces floors, stairs or walls that players can pass through. If every floor is affected, re-extract the original archive and compare the file list rather than trying to repair individual coordinates.
Textures are invisible or models are incomplete
Confirm that the associated .ytd texture dictionaries and .ydr models were copied without renaming. Check for an extra nested folder and verify that the manifest’s files glob covers the stream directory. If the creator supplied a custom manifest, restore it and only change the resource name or paths that are actually different.

The location flickers or overlaps another building
Flickering can indicate that another resource is loading map content at the same location. Temporarily disable other map resources one at a time to identify a conflict, then decide which version should remain. Keep a written list of disabled resources so you can restore them without losing the original load order.
A replacement MLO still shows the original building
Some replacement packs include a “remove” YMAP intended to hide the original map geometry. If the creator supplied one, keep it in stream and follow the pack’s installation notes. Removal-YMAP handling is community-specific, so do not create or delete one based solely on its name. Test the replacement with other map resources enabled because an overlapping resource can restore or obscure the original geometry.
The resource starts but entities are missing
Check for _manifest.ymf and any required .ytyp. For placed entities, the CodeWalker Manifest Generator is the documented way to generate the manifest file when the package does not provide it. Ensure the generated file is saved under stream, then restart and test again.
Organize several MLOs safely
Give every interior its own resource folder unless the creator explicitly supplies a combined pack. Separate resources make it easier to identify a conflicting map, update one location and disable a broken installation without affecting the rest of the server.
A practical organization is:

ensure [mapmods]/warehouse_mloLoad map resources in a deliberate order when locations are close together. If two packs edit the same area, the later resource may affect what you see, and flickering or missing geometry can result. Treat a conflict as a content-selection problem rather than adding more manifest lines at random.
Updating or removing an MLO
Update
Stop or restart the server according to your normal maintenance procedure, keep a backup of the current resource, and replace the files with the new release. Recheck the supplied fxmanifest.lua because a new version may add a .ytyp, .ymap, collision file or manifest file. Compare the new folder layout with the old one before starting the server.
Remove
Delete or move the resource folder only after removing its ensure line from server.cfg. If it was a replacement MLO, restore the original map resource or remove any companion files according to the creator’s instructions. Restart and inspect the former location for leftover geometry or collisions.
Final installation checklist
- The MLO has its own folder under
resources. fxmanifest.luais directly inside that folder.- All supplied map files are under a folder named exactly
stream. - The manifest includes
fx_version 'cerulean',game 'gta5',lua54 'yes'andthis_is_a_map 'yes', unless the creator supplied a more specific valid manifest. - Any required
.ytypis registered with the correctDLC_ITYP_REQUESTpath. _manifest.ymfis present when the pack requires it or when placed entities were generated through CodeWalker.server.cfgcontains an exact-matchensurepath.- You restarted the server and tested the interior’s floors, walls, textures and entrances in-game.
An MLO installation is complete when FiveM loads the resource at startup, the interior appears at its intended location, and players can move through it without missing geometry or collision. When it fails, return to the resource path, stream contents and map-specific manifest entries in that order; those checks resolve most installation errors without changing unrelated server files.
