To play online with a friend in EA SPORTS FC 25, first make sure your platforms are in a supported cross-play group. Then check that cross-play is enabled in your settings. EA’s official guide covers playing with friends across platforms, but its available text does not confirm the exact friend-search or invitation controls, so use the in-game EA Connect interface for those steps rather than relying on unverified button-by-button directions.
Check that your platforms can play together
EA SPORTS FC 25 groups cross-play by platform generation, not simply by console brand. Players need to be in the same group to play across platforms.

For example, a PS5 player and an Xbox Series X|S or PC player are in the same group; a PS4 player and an Xbox One player are in another. A PS5 player cannot cross-play with someone on PS4, and the same generation split applies between Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One. EA’s cross-play guidance lists the supported groups.

EA says cross-play is enabled by default when you play FC for the first time. If you or your friend changed the setting, check it before troubleshooting friend search or match invitations. You can change it from the main menu or through the Ultimate Team settings.

From EA Connect
- From the Main Menu, open EA Connect.
- Go to Social settings, then Cross-play.
- Open Cross-play settings.
- Under Cross-play Enabled, choose Yes to enable cross-play or No to disable it.
Alternate settings routes
- Main Menu > Customise > Online Settings > Matchmaking Options
- Main Menu > Ultimate Team > Settings > Matchmaking Settings
EA says you cannot change cross-play during a match. Make the change before starting or joining one. These paths are documented by Electronic Arts Help.
Find and invite a friend
EA’s official video, “How to play with friends in EA SPORTS FC 25”, addresses cross-play and playing across platforms. The available written material does not specify the exact friend-search fields, invite prompts, or acceptance sequence, and controls may depend on platform and game mode. Open EA Connect in FC 25 and follow the current on-screen social and invitation prompts; do not assume that a platform’s console-friend list alone is the required route.

EA’s cross-play help also does not provide a mode-by-mode list of friend-play options. Check the mode’s own in-game multiplayer menu for whether it supports inviting a friend before you begin.
Cross-play is different from cross-progression
Cross-play lets compatible players on different platforms play together; it does not mean that all save data or progression moves between platforms. EA says PlayStation cross-progression is available only in Ultimate Team and describes transfers within the same platform generation. Progress does not transfer from PlayStation to Xbox. If you still cannot play together
- Compare platform generations: confirm both players are in the current-generation group or both are in the previous-generation group.
- Check cross-play settings: enable it for both players using one of the documented routes above.
- Check the platform exception: Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 do not support FC cross-play.
- Check the selected mode: the available EA help text does not establish a complete list of modes that support friend invitations, so verify the option in that mode’s multiplayer menu.
