Roblox is not installed from Steam as a native Steam game. On a Windows PC, you install Roblox separately, then add its current app or shortcut to Steam using Add a Non-Steam Game. Steam provides the library entry and launch button, while Roblox still manages the client, account, updates, experiences, and purchases.
For current Windows installations, Roblox Support identifies the newer Microsoft Store app as Roblox – Windows; the older Store app named simply Roblox is being replaced. See the Roblox installation guidance.

Before you start
- The Steam desktop client
- A Roblox account
- A 64-bit Windows 10 or Windows 11 PC
- Roblox installed outside Steam
Launch Roblox normally from Windows and confirm that an experience works before adding it to Steam. Roblox’s current operating-system requirements are listed on its official support page.

- Install Roblox – Windows from the Microsoft Store and sign in.
- Open the Steam desktop client and select Library.
- Click + Add a Game… in the lower-left corner.
- Select Add a Non-Steam Game….
- Wait for Steam’s program list to load.
- Select Roblox, Roblox – Windows, or the detected Roblox launcher entry.
- Click Add Selected Programs.
- Find the new entry in your Steam library, right-click it, and select Properties.
- Rename it to something clear, such as Roblox or Roblox – Windows.
- Close Properties and click Play to test the shortcut.

If Roblox does not appear in Steam’s list
Click Browse… in the Add a Non-Steam Game window. Prefer a current Windows shortcut for the installed Roblox app rather than guessing at an executable inside a version-numbered folder.
Roblox files commonly reside under:
C:Users<Your Windows Username>AppDataLocalRobloxHowever, Roblox can place clients in changing version folders. A path such as Versionsversion-...RobloxPlayerBeta.exe may stop working after an update. If Steam cannot detect Roblox, launch it from the Windows Start menu first, then try adding it again.
Fixes for common launch problems
Steam opens the installer instead of Roblox
Steam may have added a web launcher, an outdated executable, or a shortcut from an older installation. Open Roblox directly from Windows to verify the installation, then remove the broken Steam entry and add the current detected app or shortcut again. Roblox’s desktop troubleshooting guidance recommends checking the installation, restarting the computer, reviewing security software, and reinstalling when necessary.

- Delete the broken Roblox entry from Steam.
- Launch the current Roblox app from Windows.
- Return to Library → + Add a Game… → Add a Non-Steam Game….
- Add the newly detected Roblox app or shortcut.
- Test it before changing launch options.
Re-adding the app is usually more reliable than permanently hard-coding a version-specific executable path.

Nothing happens when you click Play
- Confirm Roblox launches outside Steam.
- Restart Steam and try again.
- Check that the Steam shortcut points to the current app, not an old installation.
- Review firewall or antivirus restrictions. Roblox identifies its local folder and security-software considerations in its third-party application guidance.
- Do not download unofficial Roblox launchers, DLLs, patches, or replacement executables.
Should you use Steam launch options?
Usually, no. To view them, right-click the Steam Roblox entry, choose Properties, open General, and use the Launch Options field. Steam notes that many documented launch options apply to Valve’s own GoldSrc and Source games and do not generally apply to third-party programs. Do not add random flags such as -player, -openvr, or -openxr unless they are verified for the exact Roblox client and purpose.
Can the Steam Overlay work with Roblox?
It may work, but it is not guaranteed. Launch Roblox from the Steam library entry rather than directly from Windows, make sure the overlay is enabled globally and for the Roblox shortcut, then restart Steam. If necessary, close competing overlays such as Xbox Game Bar, Discord, graphics-driver overlays, and recording tools.
Valve warns that the overlay can have problems with non-Steam programs, particularly programs that use their own launcher. See Steam’s overlay troubleshooting information.
Can Steam Input or a Steam Controller work with Roblox?
Steam Input is not guaranteed to work like native Roblox controller support. Controller behavior can vary between the Roblox client, controller, input mode, and individual experiences.

- Start with a keyboard-and-mouse Steam Input layout.
- Map controller buttons to keyboard keys instead of assuming gamepad mappings will be accepted.
- Test inside the specific Roblox experience, not only on the Roblox home screen.
- Avoid running multiple controller-emulation tools simultaneously.
- Disconnect duplicate input devices if Roblox registers double inputs.
Valve notes that gamepad-only mappings depend on the game supporting gamepad input. An experience that does not recognize a particular controller may still reject Steam Input mappings.
Launching a specific Roblox experience
The ordinary Steam shortcut opens Roblox; it does not reliably select a particular experience. Roblox documentation has described direct links using a place ID, including:
roblox://placeId=<PLACE_ID>It also documents a web-to-app format:
https://www.roblox.com/games/start?placeId=<PLACE_ID>This is an advanced and fragile option. Roblox currently marks the documented deep-link process as deprecated and recommends share links for public deep links. Steam may also handle a roblox:// URI differently from a normal executable. For most users, keep the standard Roblox shortcut and choose the experience within Roblox. See Roblox’s deep-link documentation for the documented formats and limitations.
Steam Deck, Linux, and Mac
Steam Deck running SteamOS
Adding a shortcut to Steam does not make Roblox a supported Linux game. Roblox’s current requirements page states that Linux is unsupported. Community compatibility methods may be unstable or stop working after Roblox changes, and they are not official Roblox or Valve solutions.

Steam Deck running Windows
If Windows is installed and Roblox works normally there, the Windows procedure above is the applicable method. Hardware, drivers, and Roblox compatibility still determine the result.
Mac
Do not use the Windows Microsoft Store instructions or Windows executable paths on macOS. Roblox supports macOS separately, but the shortcut and application-selection details differ.

Steam treats a non-Steam addition as a library convenience rather than a Steam-registered product. It may record activity or playtime for the shortcut, but that is not equivalent to official Steam game telemetry or Steam ownership. Bottom line
For most Windows players, install the current Roblox – Windows app, add its detected shortcut through Steam → Library → + Add a Game… → Add a Non-Steam Game…, and avoid custom launch commands. If an update breaks the entry, remove it and add the current Roblox shortcut again. This gives you a convenient Steam library button—not a native Steam version of Roblox.
