On PS5, adjust headset loudness at Settings > Sound > Volume > Headphones, set up your mic from the Control Center’s Mic card, and configure headphone 3D Audio at Settings > Sound > 3D Audio (Headphones). If something sounds wrong, first confirm the console is sending audio to the headset and that its own physical controls are set correctly; then troubleshoot the microphone or wireless connection.
How do I turn up my PS5 headset volume?
Use the PS5’s Headphones volume setting or the quicker Control Center shortcut. If the headset has its own volume wheel or buttons, check those as well: the console control cannot override a headset’s physical volume setting.

- Adjust Headphones to the level you want.
- Alternatively, press the PS button, select Sound in the Control Center, and change the volume there.
- If the level is still too low, check the headset’s own volume control and confirm the console is outputting to the headset.
The Control Center is useful when you want to make a quick adjustment without leaving a game. The Settings route is easier to follow when you are configuring audio for the first time or checking which output the console has selected.
How do I make sure PS5 is using the headset?
Choose the headset as the output device, or let the console switch to a connected headset automatically. This setting matters when sound continues to come from the TV or another device even though the headset is connected.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Open Settings > Sound > Audio Output.
- Set Output Device to your headset.
- To have PS5 switch outputs when a headset is connected, enable Switch Output Device Automatically.
- Check Output to Headphones to choose which audio is sent to the headset.
Other options in this menu affect how headphone audio behaves. Mono Audio for Headphones duplicates the same signal in both ears; use it if you need that listening arrangement rather than separate left- and right-channel audio. Sidetone Volume, when supported by the headset, sets how loudly you hear your own voice in the headphones. If an option is unavailable, the headset may not support it.
How do I make my PS5 mic louder?
Choose the microphone you intend to use, then calibrate its input level while speaking normally. Aim for the on-screen meter’s Good range rather than setting the level by how loud your voice sounds in the headset.
- Press the PS button to open the Control Center and select Mic.
- If more than one microphone is available, choose the correct Input Device.
- Select Adjust Microphone Level.
- Speak at your normal voice and move the level until the input meter reaches Good.
- Check the microphone’s mute state if other players still cannot hear you.
Input level and headphone volume do different jobs. The Headphones control changes how loudly audio plays for you; Adjust Microphone Level changes how the console receives your voice. Raising one will not substitute for adjusting the other.
Choose whether the microphone starts muted
PS5 has separate microphone status options for login and for starting voice chat or a broadcast. Use Microphone Status When Logged In to choose whether the mic begins active or muted after you log in. Use Microphone Status When Starting Voice Chat or Broadcast to keep its current state or have it switch to mute automatically when one of those activities begins. These choices let you set a predictable starting state without changing the calibrated input level.

Check the DualSense mute button

- After creating a personalized profile, enable Apply Personalized 3D Audio Profile if you want PS5 to use it.

Which headsets can use PS5 3D Audio?
Compatible USB and analog 3.5 mm stereo headsets can provide PS5 3D Audio. Do not assume that a headset works with the console just because it is wireless: direct Bluetooth wireless headsets are not supported on PS5, and PlayStation notes that not every device is compatible.

| Connection or option | What to know on PS5 | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| USB headset or wireless USB adaptor | Can provide PS5 3D Audio when the device is compatible. | Confirm the exact model works with PS5 and select it under Output Device. |
| Analog 3.5 mm stereo headset | Can provide PS5 3D Audio when compatible. | Confirm PS5 compatibility and check any headset controls separately. |
| Direct Bluetooth wireless headset | Direct Bluetooth wireless headsets are not supported on PS5. | Use a connection method the console and the exact headset support instead. |
When comparing compatible headsets, consider more than the connection: microphone controls, sidetone or mic monitoring, chat/game balance, comfort, and battery life can all affect daily use. Check the exact model’s support information before relying on a feature, because those controls vary by device.
How do I stop my PS5 headset from echoing?
For echo, PlayStation recommends moving the Microphone Level fader two to four notches to the left. This lowers the mic input; if the echo remains, reset the headset according to its manual.
- Open the Control Center with the PS button and select Mic.
- Choose Adjust Microphone Level.
- Move the fader two to four notches left, as PlayStation recommends.
- Speak and check whether the echo has stopped.
- If it continues, follow the headset manual’s reset instructions.
Make the change in the mic input-level setting rather than trying to fix the echo by changing headphone playback volume. If your headset has its own mic controls, monitoring, or mute switch, consult its manual for the device-specific behavior.
How do I fix wireless headset dropouts or skipping?
USB 3.0 devices near a wireless headset adaptor can contribute to wireless dropouts or skipping. Remove nearby USB 3.0 devices from the console, or increase the distance between them and the wireless adaptor with a USB extension cable.

- If you need to keep those devices connected, use a USB extension cable to move the headset’s wireless adaptor farther away from them.
- For device-specific reconnection or reset steps, use the headset manual.
This advice applies to wireless headsets that use an adaptor; it does not make direct Bluetooth headsets compatible with PS5.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What changes when a PULSE 3D headset is connected by cable?
Sony’s PULSE 3D wireless headset is tuned for PS5 3D Audio and includes dual noise-cancelling microphones, master volume, mic mute, chat/game balance controls, and mic monitoring. Sony lists up to 12 hours of wireless play in 2022 product documentation; actual battery life can vary with use.
The headset’s controls are connection-dependent. When the PULSE 3D is connected by audio cable, its wireless-only chat/game balance, mic mute, mic monitoring, and volume controls are disabled. Use its wireless adaptor for those functions. The 2024 instruction manual documents separate CHAT and GAME buttons for relative balance and a MONITOR switch for hearing your own voice.
A compatible USB or 3.5 mm stereo headset is also a valid option. The key distinction is not that one connection guarantees every feature: check PS5 compatibility and the exact headset’s manual for which controls work over its particular connection.

What should I check first when headset audio or chat is wrong?
Work from the console’s routing settings toward the headset’s own controls. This avoids changing unrelated settings when the problem is simply the selected output, input, or mute state.
- No sound in the headset: check Settings > Sound > Audio Output > Output Device, then check the Headphones volume and the headset’s physical volume setting.
- Other players cannot hear you: select the intended Input Device in the Control Center’s Mic card, check the input meter, and check the DualSense and headset mute controls.
- Your voice echoes: lower Microphone Level by two to four notches and reset the headset using its manual if that does not resolve it.
- Wireless audio skips: separate the wireless adaptor from USB 3.0 devices or remove those devices temporarily.
- 3D Audio is not active: check that Enable 3D Audio for Headphones is on and, if using a personal profile, that Apply Personalized 3D Audio Profile is enabled.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does a personalized 3D Audio profile change how the headset microphone sounds?

Can I use the same PS5 headset settings for every headset model?
Not necessarily. The available options depend on the device, and PlayStation says not all devices work with PS5; check the exact model’s compatibility and manual for its connection-specific features.
Does the PULSE 3D manual specify a fixed battery-life guarantee?
No. Sony’s 2022 product documentation gives an estimate of up to 12 hours of wireless play, and battery life can vary with use.
