Roblox does not provide a supported RAM-allocation slider, launch command, or configuration file that lets you assign it 4 GB, 8 GB, or any other chosen amount. Windows and Roblox manage memory dynamically.
If Roblox is slow, stuttering, or crashing, first determine whether the entire computer is running short of memory. Closing competing applications, lowering Roblox’s graphics quality, fixing driver or network problems, or upgrading physical RAM can help—but only when that is the actual bottleneck.

What “allocate more RAM” actually means
RAM is the computer’s physical working memory. A game’s working set is the portion of its data currently resident in physical RAM. Windows may move less-active data to the page file, which is disk space used as virtual memory when committed memory exceeds available RAM.

A dedicated graphics card has its own VRAM, while integrated graphics may borrow part of system RAM. Roblox’s memory use also changes according to the experience, textures, assets, scripts, client state, and device.

As a result, seeing Roblox use a relatively small amount of memory does not mean Windows is withholding RAM from it. Programs request memory when they need it, and Windows can reclaim unused memory for other tasks. A process does not need to consume all available RAM to perform well.
Roblox’s official Windows requirements list at least 1 GB of RAM, 64-bit Windows 10 or Windows 11, DirectX 10-or-higher feature-level graphics support, and approximately 300 MB of installation storage. That 1 GB figure is a minimum requirement, not a practical recommendation for every modern experience or multitasking setup. See Roblox’s current computer requirements.
Check whether RAM is actually the problem
- Start Roblox and join the experience where the problem occurs.
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
- On the Processes tab, sort by the Memory column.
- Open Performance > Memory and check total usage and available memory.
- Also inspect CPU, GPU, Disk, and Network activity.
The important signal is system-wide memory pressure, not whether Roblox is the largest process. If total memory usage is regularly near 90–100%, available memory is very low, Windows becomes sluggish, or applications freeze while Roblox is open, insufficient RAM may be involved. Heavy paging can also make the computer feel slow because storage is much slower than physical memory.

If the system has plenty of available memory, adding RAM or trying to force Roblox to use more will not necessarily improve performance.

Free memory before launching Roblox
Close applications that compete for memory and CPU time:
- Unneeded browser windows and tabs
- Game launchers you are not using
- Video editors and large downloads
- Virtual machines and Android emulators
- Recording, streaming, and overlay software
Restarting Windows can also clear accumulated usage from applications that have been open for a long time. Do not end unfamiliar Windows processes merely because they appear in Task Manager; stopping the wrong process can cause instability or data loss.
Roblox recommends closing unwanted applications when competing resource usage may be contributing to lag. Its guidance is available in Roblox’s lag-reduction instructions.

- Join an experience.
- Press Esc.
- Open Settings.
- Find Graphics.
- Turn Graphics Quality – Auto off.
- Move the graphics-quality slider lower and test the experience for several minutes.
This does not allocate more RAM to Roblox. It reduces visual detail and rendering work, which can help when the GPU or the overall device is struggling. If lower graphics settings produce a noticeable improvement, the GPU or graphics configuration is more likely to be the limiting factor than system RAM.

Identify the type of lag

Roblox distinguishes network lag from graphics and system lag, and an unstable connection cannot be fixed by adding RAM. Similarly, an experience that is poorly optimized may perform badly even on a computer with ample memory. See Roblox’s connection troubleshooting page.
Should you upgrade physical RAM?
Consider a hardware upgrade if your computer has 4 GB or less, memory usage repeatedly approaches 90–100%, Windows pages heavily during play, or closing other applications makes a clear difference. For a modern Windows gaming setup, 8 GB is a practical floor for light multitasking and 16 GB is a more comfortable general target. These are system-level guidelines, not Roblox requirements.
More RAM will not automatically increase FPS when the GPU, CPU, network, temperature, drivers, or experience is the real limitation. Confirm the bottleneck in Task Manager before spending money.

Check compatibility before buying
- Desktop computers generally use full-size DIMMs; laptops generally use smaller SODIMMs.
- Some laptops have soldered memory and cannot be upgraded.
- DDR4 and DDR5 are different generations and cannot be mixed.
- The motherboard, processor, BIOS, maximum capacity, memory speed, and available slots all matter.
- Matching an existing module is often safer than buying a faster module that the system may not support.
Use your computer or motherboard manufacturer’s service manual, or a reputable compatibility selector such as Crucial’s memory upgrade tool. Corsair also provides laptop SODIMM options and a compatibility scanner. Do not choose DDR4 or DDR5 based only on appearance or advertised speed.
What about increasing the Windows page file?
The page file is virtual memory on a storage drive. It can help Windows handle committed memory and may prevent certain allocation errors, but it does not add physical RAM and cannot make a low-memory computer behave like a high-memory system.
For most users, leave Automatically manage paging file size for all drives enabled. Changing it unnecessarily can consume storage or create new problems.

- Open Advanced system settings.
- Under Performance, select Settings.
- Open the Advanced tab.
- Under Virtual memory, select Change.
- Clear Automatically manage paging file size for all drives.
- Select a drive and enter custom initial and maximum sizes.
- Restart Windows.
For that specific issue, Microsoft describes an initial size of 1.5 times installed RAM, with the maximum adjusted as needed. This is a general Windows troubleshooting procedure—not a Roblox RAM-allocation method or a universal recommendation. Roblox Studio can use substantially more memory than simply playing an experience because creators may have large maps, assets, plugins, editing tools, and test sessions open at the same time. The same rule still applies: there is no supported setting that reserves a chosen amount of RAM for Studio.
Close unnecessary plugins and applications, monitor Studio and total system memory in Task Manager, and investigate whether a particular place, asset, or plugin causes the increase. Player-focused RAM advice should not be treated as a Studio-specific allocation feature.
Avoid fake RAM fixes
- Task Manager priority: Setting Roblox to High priority changes scheduling preference; it does not create RAM or guarantee better performance.
- Registry edits: Random registry changes do not provide a supported Roblox allocation control and can destabilize Windows.
- Unofficial command-line flags: Old forum posts may refer to obsolete, unsupported, or unrelated options.
- RAM boosters and memory cleaners: These cannot create physical memory and may add overhead or interfere with normal Windows memory management.
- Modified clients and exploit tools: Use the official Roblox client. Roblox warns that incompatible third-party software and modified clients can cause errors or account restrictions; see Roblox’s anti-cheat guidance.
- Broad antivirus disabling: Do not leave security protections disabled. If security software is suspected, use a narrowly scoped, documented exception and restore protection afterward.
A practical troubleshooting order
- Restart the computer.
- Join the affected experience and inspect total memory, CPU, GPU, disk, and network usage in Task Manager.
- Close browsers, launchers, recorders, overlays, virtual machines, and other unnecessary applications.
- Lower Roblox graphics quality and test again.
- Try another Roblox experience to separate a computer-wide issue from an experience-specific one.
- Update Windows and the graphics driver if graphics errors or crashes continue.
- Check temperatures, free storage, antivirus interference, and installation integrity.
- Consider a physical RAM upgrade only if the system repeatedly runs out of memory and the hardware supports it.
