Tenebris Somnia is a single-player 2D retro survival-horror adventure by Andrés Borghi and Saibot Studios, published by New Blood Interactive. It released on October 16, 2026. Windows save location
For a normal Windows installation, open this folder:
%LOCALAPPDATA%TenebrisSomniaSavedSaveGames
%LOCALAPPDATA% is an environment shortcut that points to your Windows user profile’s local application-data directory. You do not need to reveal hidden folders manually: paste the complete path into File Explorer’s address bar and press Enter. The folder you need to preserve is SaveGames, including everything inside it.
If File Explorer opens the parent directory instead, open TenebrisSomnia, then Saved, and confirm that SaveGames is directly inside it. The final nesting should be TenebrisSomniaSavedSaveGames, not a duplicate such as TenebrisSomniaSavedSaveGamesSaveGames. If the directory is absent, the game may not have written a save yet; create or reach a save state, exit fully, and check again.

Do this at the point immediately before the final branch, not after an ending has already been recorded. Closing the game before copying avoids taking a snapshot while a save file may still be changing.

How to confirm that your backup is usable
- Check that the dated copy contains the contents of the original

Restoring after you have seen the first ending
Restoration is a replacement operation, not a menu command. The game must be closed while you swap folders.
- Exit Tenebris Somnia fully.

Keep SaveGames-after-ending until the alternate route loads correctly. Once both endings are safely experienced, you can decide whether to archive or remove the extra folder. There is no need to erase it immediately, and retaining it costs little compared with losing a route through an accidental overwrite.
Steam Cloud: useful convenience, not a verified safety net
The Steam listing identifies Steam Cloud as a feature. However, the available save-system information does not establish when Tenebris Somnia uploads files, whether it keeps multiple versions, how conflicts are resolved, or whether a post-ending state can overwrite the earlier cloud copy. Those details can vary with timing and synchronization status.
For that reason, treat Steam Cloud as an additional convenience rather than the primary recovery plan. Keep the dated local folder even when Cloud is enabled. If Steam presents a synchronization or conflict prompt after you replace the files, do not choose an option blindly: first confirm that the local folder currently contains the pre-choice backup you intend to load. A cloud download of the newer post-ending state could otherwise undo your replacement.
Cloud status also should not determine when you make the backup. The correct moment remains immediately before the irreversible branch, with the game closed. A cloud icon or a completed sync message does not prove that the service retained that exact branch state.
Steam Play and Proton saves
For the Windows build running through Proton, PCGamingWiki places the save data inside the Steam library’s steamapps/compatdata/2121510 prefix path. The complete location depends on which Steam library contains the installation, and the app ID can differ in some setups.
Locate the library that holds the installed game, then find its matching steamapps/compatdata prefix before copying anything. Do not assume that a second Steam library uses the same drive or that every installation exposes an identical prefix. Once you have identified the correct prefix, preserve the game’s SaveGames directory using the same sequence: close the game, copy the complete folder, keep the original, and restore by replacing the active folder after the first ending.
If more than one prefix appears, identify the one associated with the installed game rather than copying every prefix indiscriminately. Preserve the full relevant save directory and label it with the date and Proton location. The same warning applies here as on Windows: the path reference is documented, but a developer-published restore tool, checksum workflow and cloud-conflict policy are not.

Windows troubleshooting
The path appears not to exist
Paste %LOCALAPPDATA%TenebrisSomniaSavedSaveGames directly into File Explorer rather than browsing from a shortcut. Check the spelling and spacing of TenebrisSomnia. If the game has never reached a point where it writes a save, the directory may not yet exist; launch the game, create or reach a save state, close it, and check again.
You copied the wrong level of the folder
The restore target is the directory named SaveGames directly under TenebrisSomniaSaved. If you copy only one file, or create an extra nested directory, the game may not see the backup. Compare the final path visually before launching.
The game keeps loading the ending
Close the game, move the current active folder aside, and verify that your dated backup is the folder now named SaveGames. Check that the backup was made before the final choice and that you did not accidentally copy the post-ending folder. Relaunch only after the path is corrected.
You cannot tell which folder is newer
Use descriptive names with dates and branch notes, for example TenebrisSomnia-before-ending-2026-10-19 and SaveGames-after-ending. Never overwrite the dated copy simply to make the names shorter.
Cloud synchronization changes the result
Steam Cloud behavior for this game has not been documented in the available save information. Keep Steam open long enough to observe any sync message, but prioritize the verified local path and your dated copy. If a cloud conflict appears, preserve both local states before selecting a resolution.

Close the game and repeat the replacement. A running process can keep the old state open or write it back after you copy the backup. Always perform the move-and-copy operation from the desktop, then launch only after the final folder name and location are correct.
Console versions
The publisher lists PC storefronts along with PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox Series versions. Console players should make the backup immediately before the final branch and use the platform’s own saved-data management tools or supported cloud-save controls. The exact menu names and whether a removable or cloud copy can be restored differ by platform and account settings. Verify the current instructions for your specific console before deleting, replacing or downloading saved data. Because console storage is managed by the platform, avoid improvised file manipulation or deleting all saved data to force a reload. The local-folder method has the clearest recovery path because you control the exact pre-choice files. Cloud and console methods may still be useful, but their timing and conflict rules are not established here. The trade-off is that a local copy requires access to the correct folder and a few minutes of file management; in exchange, it avoids the uncertain replay cost of losing the branch.
