Make a new manual save, exit the game normally, verify that the newest save has reached your platform’s backup system, and only then install the update. After the update, load that save and confirm your progress before deleting, replacing or overwriting any older copy.
This matters for Tales of Eternia Remastered because Bandai Namco’s launch notice identifies update 2.0.0 for Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S and Steam. The update requires an internet connection. Nintendo’s official product listings show Save Data Cloud support for both the Switch and Switch 2 editions, but they do not publish a game-specific export command or a precise Settings-menu path.

The safest backup sequence
- Start Tales of Eternia Remastered and reach a safe point.
- Create a fresh manual save in a new slot, rather than relying only on an autosave.
- Exit the game cleanly so the console or computer has time to write the save.
- Confirm that your platform has completed its normal cloud synchronization or local backup operation.
- Start update 2.0.0 while connected to the internet and with enough free storage for the download.
- Launch the updated game, load the newly created save and check that the party, location, inventory and play time look correct.
- Keep the original local save and any older backup until the updated game has loaded successfully. Do not delete or overwrite them during the first launch.
This order gives you a known-good restore point and a clear verification step. A backup that was never checked after saving is not useful protection against an interrupted update or a mistaken overwrite.

Bandai Namco Entertainment America’s October 15, 2026 notice names the launch update as version 2.0.0 and says an internet connection is required to apply it. The notice covers all six release platforms:

These are approximate figures from the launch notice, not a promise that every installation will show exactly the same number. Check the free-space requirement shown by your platform before starting. A download can fail or pause when the drive or console has insufficient room, even when the save itself is small.
Why make a new manual save?
A manual save gives you a definite point in time that you can identify after the update. Autosaves may be replaced as soon as the game starts, while a new manual slot lets you distinguish the pre-update state from an older campaign or a post-update test.
- Use a slot with a clear position in your save list, such as the next unused slot.
- Save after a safe point, not during a transition, battle, cutscene or other operation that could be interrupted.
- Record the slot number and a few visible details: the area, party members, currency, important items and approximate play time.
- If the game permits more than one local copy, leave an older slot untouched and create the newest copy separately.
Do not treat a successful “save complete” message as proof that a cloud copy already exists. The local write and the cloud synchronization are separate events, so verify both before updating.

Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2
Nintendo’s official listings for Tales of Eternia Remastered on Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 both display “Save Data Cloud” among the supported features. The Switch 2 listing gives an estimated game size of 7 GB. Those listings establish cloud-save support, but they do not provide a title-specific export procedure or publish the exact console Settings path. Use the following sequence without assuming that a cloud upload is instantaneous.
1. Create and identify the local save
- Open the game on the console containing your current progress.
- Play to a safe point and make a fresh manual save in a new slot.
- Wait for the game to finish writing, then return to the title screen or close the software through the console’s normal software-close control.
- Note the save slot and the visible details you will use for the post-update check.
2. Confirm the cloud copy
Before downloading the update, verify in the console’s current Nintendo Switch Online Save Data Cloud controls that Tales of Eternia Remastered has synchronized the newest save. The exact menu labels and path can change with system software, and Nintendo’s product pages do not document a game-specific path, so follow the current on-screen instructions rather than relying on an old screenshot or an assumed sequence.
Do not proceed while synchronization is pending, paused or reporting an error. Leave the game closed while the console completes its normal upload check, then confirm that the timestamp or status corresponds to the manual save you just made. If the status still reflects an earlier session, reopen the game only long enough to verify the local save, close it cleanly again and repeat the platform’s cloud-sync check.

3. Install version 2.0.0
- Keep the console connected to the internet.
- Start the update from the console’s normal software-update prompt or library control.
- Allow the download and installation to finish without powering off the console or removing the game card, if applicable.
- Remember that Bandai Namco lists an approximate 300 MB update for Nintendo Switch and approximately 7 GB for Nintendo Switch 2.
4. Verify the save after updating
- Launch the updated game.
- Load the manual-save slot you recorded.
- Check the area, party, inventory, currency and play time against your notes.
- Play briefly or make a new test save only after the expected campaign has loaded correctly.
Keep the original local save and the cloud copy until this check is complete. Starting the updated game and immediately creating a new save can make it harder to tell whether a problem came from the update, the wrong user profile or an accidental overwrite.

The launch notice lists version 2.0.0 at approximately 500 MB on PlayStation 5 and 1.3 GB on PlayStation 4. The available official material does not document a Tales of Eternia Remastered-specific backup or restore menu path for either console. Do not infer a title-specific procedure from another game.
Use the platform’s current backup controls
- Create a new manual save in the game and close the software normally.
- Use the current PlayStation system or account backup controls available to your console and edition to synchronize or copy the save.

Bandai Namco lists an approximate 8 GB download for Xbox Series X|S and requires an internet connection for version 2.0.0. No authoritative, title-specific Xbox backup and restore path was identified in the available product information.

Before updating
- Open the game and make a new manual save in a separate slot.
- Exit to the desktop through the game’s normal quit command; do not force-close the process while it is saving.
- Wait for Steam’s normal synchronization indicator to finish before launching the update.
- If you maintain your own local copy and the game exposes its save folder, copy the files to a separate location without moving or renaming the originals. Keep the copy associated with the date and save slot you recorded.
- Install the update only after synchronization or copying has completed.
After updating
- Start the updated game and load the pre-update manual-save slot.
- Verify the campaign state against your notes.
- Only after that verification should you create a new post-update save or replace a local backup.

First determine whether the problem is a failed update, a wrong user profile, a synchronization conflict or a genuinely damaged save. Avoid launching the game repeatedly and saving over the same slot while diagnosing it.
If the game opens but your progress is missing
- Close the game without creating a new save.
- Check that you are using the same console account, platform profile and game edition that created the backup.
- Review the platform’s cloud-save status and compare available timestamps with the manual-save time you recorded.
- Restore the known-good cloud or local copy using the platform’s current official procedure.
- Launch the game and verify the restored slot before making any new save.
The available information does not establish whether every platform lets you choose an arbitrary older cloud snapshot or only synchronizes the newest copy. That behavior is controlled by the platform, not by the game’s update notice.
If the update will not install
