Choose the right removal method
A kick ends a player’s current session but does not stop them from joining again. A ban blocks future access until an administrator removes it. The in-game commands and the REST API perform the same two basic actions, but they use different identifiers and have different setup requirements.

The command names above are case-insensitive in many server setups, but entering them exactly as documented avoids errors. Do not substitute a display name for the identifier.
Prepare the server before using admin commands
Set an AdminPassword
Open the Palworld server configuration file and set an AdminPassword value before starting the server. The password is what the in-game administrator command uses to grant your session permission. Save the configuration and restart the server if it was already running so the setting is loaded.

Use a unique, strong password. Anyone who learns it can authenticate as an administrator while connected, so do not post it in public chat, a community Discord, a control-panel note visible to ordinary players, or a script repository.
Enable the REST API only if you need remote control
For remote requests, enable RESTAPIEnabled in the server configuration. The listening port is controlled by RESTAPIPort. Restart the server after changing either setting and confirm that the process is listening on the intended interface and port.

Treat the configured value—not an assumed default—as authoritative, and do not expose the API directly to the public internet. Restrict it with a firewall, private network, VPN, or an equivalent access-control layer.
Kick or ban someone from inside Palworld
1. Join with an administrator account
Connect to the server normally. In the server’s chat box, enter:
/AdminPassword your-password
Replace your-password with the exact value in the server configuration. A successful authentication grants admin rights for that session. You must run the command again after reconnecting; the permission does not automatically carry over to a new session.

2. Display online players and their IDs
Run:
/ShowPlayers
The command lists currently connected players and the identifiers used by the server. Copy the target player’s ID exactly. Names can be similar, can contain unusual characters, and can change; an ID is safer than selecting by appearance or chat name.

3. Choose kick or ban
To disconnect the player without creating a lasting block, enter:
/KickPlayer <SteamID>
To block the player from returning, enter:
/BanPlayer <SteamID>
Replace the angle-bracketed value with the ID returned by /ShowPlayers. A successful kick should remove the player from the current session. A successful ban should prevent a subsequent connection using that account until the ban is removed.
4. Remove a ban when appropriate
To reverse an in-game ban, authenticate again if necessary and run:
/UnBanPlayer <SteamID>
Use the same identifier that was used for the ban. If the player is online while you are correcting the ban, disconnecting them first can make the state change easier to verify.

Understand which identifier Palworld expects
Steam players
The in-game commands are documented around a SteamID. Secondary administration guides commonly show this as a value beginning with steam_ followed by the numeric ID. Copy the complete value shown by /ShowPlayers rather than manually reformatting it.
Xbox and PlayStation cross-play
Cross-play players may be represented by their platform UserID instead of a SteamID. This behavior is reported by secondary guides and can vary with the server build and cross-play configuration. If the displayed identifier does not begin with steam_, use the exact platform value shown by the player listing.
Do not confuse a name, Steam display URL, and server ID
A player’s visible name is not a reliable command argument. Likewise, a profile URL or a shortened numeric fragment may not match the server’s expected value. Always obtain the identifier from the server’s own player listing or the API response used by your administration tool.
Use the REST API for remote administration
The REST route is useful when the administrator is not logged into the game, when a control panel needs to automate moderation, or when a scheduled tool must act on a running server. It requires RESTAPIEnabled in the configuration and the port specified by RESTAPIPort.

Send a POST /kick request with the target’s userid. The endpoint also accepts an optional message, which can be used to tell the player why they were disconnected. The request body described by the API uses fields in this form:

The exact identifier format for REST requests is not established in the available official documentation, so do not assume that every API deployment accepts the same steam_ spelling used by an in-game listing.
Ban request
Send a POST /ban request with the same required userid field and optional message:

Authentication is release-dependent
The official material identified for the REST endpoints does not establish a definitive authentication method. Some third-party guides report HTTP Basic authentication with the username admin and the server’s AdminPassword, but that claim is not confirmed here and should not be treated as a universal requirement. Check the REST documentation shipped for your server release or the hosting panel’s current API instructions before writing a client. Never put the admin password in a public URL, browser history shared by staff, or an unsecured script.
Unban through REST
Palworld provides a separate REST operation for unbanning. Use the unban endpoint documented for your server version and submit the required userid. Because endpoint details and authentication handling can change between releases, verify the path and response format in the documentation that matches the running server rather than guessing a route or copying an old example.

Where bans are stored and how to recover from a mistaken ban
Secondary hosting documentation places the ban list at Pal/Saved/SaveGames/banlist.txt. This path is reported with medium confidence and should be verified on the actual server before you edit anything. Folder layouts differ between dedicated-server packages, operating systems, container images, and hosting panels.
If the file exists, stop the server or follow the host’s safe-edit procedure before changing it. Make a backup, remove only the intended entry, save the file, and restart the server if the host requires a reload. Direct file editing is a recovery option, not a substitute for the in-game unban command; malformed text or an edit made while the server is writing can cause the change to be lost or can damage the list.
- Record the player ID and the reason for every ban.
- Keep a dated backup before manual edits.
- After restarting, test with the unbanned account or ask the player to reconnect.
- If the ban remains, check whether another copy of the server or a control panel is restoring the old file.
RCON is deprecated
Pocketpair’s RCON documentation marks RCON as deprecated, warns that it is scheduled to stop working in an upcoming update, and directs administrators toward the REST API. No firm removal date is established, so existing RCON tools may continue to work on some builds and fail on others. Community reports also describe RCON failures after version 0.1.5.0, but those reports are anecdotal and old.
Do not build new kick or ban automation around RCON. If an older tool still uses it, plan a migration to REST and test the replacement on a staging server. RCON also has a reported limitation involving multi-byte characters in player names, another reason not to identify targets by display name.
Troubleshoot failed commands and requests
“Unknown command” or no administrative effect
- Confirm that you entered
/AdminPasswordafter the latest reconnect. - Check that
AdminPasswordis set in the configuration loaded by this server instance, not in an unused template file. - Restart after changing the configuration.
- Enter the command in the game chat, with the leading slash and the exact command spelling.
The player cannot be found
- Run
/ShowPlayersagain; the player may have disconnected or reconnected with a different session identifier. - Copy the complete ID, including any
steam_prefix shown by the server. - For cross-play users, use the platform UserID presented by the server rather than guessing a SteamID.
- Do not paste a display name when the command requests an ID.
The REST request fails
- Verify that
RESTAPIEnabledis enabled and that the request targets the configuredRESTAPIPort. - Check the server log for a bind error, a port conflict, or a request rejected by the firewall.
- Confirm that the request is a
POSTand includes the requireduseridfield. - Use the authentication scheme documented for the running release; do not assume an unverified Basic-auth example is correct.
- Check whether the API expects a different identifier format from the in-game command.
The player returns immediately after a kick
That is normal for a kick. A kick is a session termination, not a persistent restriction. Use a ban when the player must be prevented from reconnecting, and document the reason so another administrator can understand the decision.
A banned player still connects
- Confirm that you banned the correct identifier and not a similarly named player.
- Check whether the player is joining a different server instance, shard, or world.
- Verify that the ban operation succeeded in the server log or API response.
- If you edited
banlist.txt, confirm the path belongs to the active server and that the file was saved before restart. - Remember that cross-play accounts may use a platform UserID rather than the Steam identifier you expected.
A safe moderation workflow
- Capture the player’s ID with
/ShowPlayersor your server’s API listing. - Decide whether the incident calls for a temporary kick or a persistent ban.
- Run the matching command or API request and include a concise reason where supported.
- Record the ID, action, administrator, time, and reason in your moderation log.
- For a ban, verify that a reconnect is refused; for a kick, verify that the current session ended.
- Use
/UnBanPlayeror the documented REST unban operation when an appeal is accepted.
This approach prevents accidental bans caused by name collisions, preserves an audit trail, and makes it possible for another administrator to reverse an action without guessing which account was targeted.

Palworld server commands and API behavior can change with server updates. The documentation snapshot used for these procedures was reported around version 1.0.4, while the current server version for every host is not established here. Before deploying an automated moderation script, compare the command and API pages for the exact server build you run.
The in-game flow is the most direct option when you can join the world. REST is the supported direction for remote administration, but its authentication and identifier details must be confirmed against the release-specific documentation. RCON should be considered a legacy compatibility path only.
