To unban a player, connect to your server’s RCON console and run listbans, then unbanplayer <userid or platformid>. Run listbans again to confirm the entry disappeared. If your server does not support that command, stop the server, back up and edit /ConanSandbox/Saved/blacklist.txt, remove the player’s line, save the file, and restart.

Ban and unban controls vary by Conan Exiles build and hosting panel. The RCON command above is the most consistently documented unban route; reports about an in-game menu and ban-command syntax conflict, so test your server with help before relying on any command.

What you need before changing a ban
Ban changes affect the live server and can be difficult to undo if the wrong identifier or line is removed. Prepare these items first:
- Administrator access to the server control panel or an external RCON client.
- Permission to stop and start the server if you need to edit its files.
- A current backup of
/ConanSandbox/Saved/blacklist.txtbefore making any manual change. - The player’s exact server identifier. A display name is not sufficient for the RCON command.
- A short maintenance notice if you must stop the server; players can be disconnected during the restart.
Keep a copy of the original file and record the date, identifier and reason for each change. If an edit has an unexpected result, restoring the backup is safer than trying to reconstruct the original text.

Use RCON first because it lets you inspect the active ban list and verify the result without stopping the server. Use the file method only when the command is unavailable or the panel cannot reach RCON.
Unban a player with RCON
1. Open the RCON console
Open the server host’s Console tab if it provides RCON access, or connect with the external RCON client configured for your server. Hosting guides commonly state that their panels enable RCON by default, but do not assume that is true for every provider, rented server or self-hosted installation. If the console rejects the connection, check that RCON is enabled and that you are using the current port and credentials shown by the server administrator.

2. Check the command set
Enter:
help
The response is the most useful build-specific check available to you. It shows whether the console recognizes the commands exposed by that server version. Command names and syntax reported by third-party guides are not an official compatibility guarantee, so treat an “unknown command” response as a reason to use the server’s own help output rather than repeatedly guessing.
3. Display the active bans
Run:
listbans
Use the identifier shown for the player, not merely the name they used in chat. The documented syntax refers to a userid or platformid. Copy the value exactly, including its capitalization or digits, and compare it with any identifier supplied by the player. If several entries have similar names, do not remove one until you have matched the correct identifier.
4. Remove the ban
Run:
unbanplayer <userid or platformid>
Replace the bracketed text with the value from listbans; do not type the angle brackets. For example, the command shape is unbanplayer 123456789 when the listed identifier is numeric. Do not add a slash unless your console’s help output specifically shows one.

5. Confirm the change
Run listbans again. The player’s entry should no longer appear. Ask the player to reconnect only after this check. If the entry remains, copy the console’s response, verify that you used the listed identifier rather than a character name, and repeat the check with the exact syntax shown by help.

Unban by editing blacklist.txt
This is the fallback when RCON does not provide unbanplayer or the console is unavailable. It requires a complete stop and restart.
1. Stop the server cleanly
Use the dashboard’s Stop control and wait until the process is fully stopped. Do not edit the file while the game server is still writing its saved data. If the panel reports a delayed shutdown, wait for the status to change before opening the file.
2. Make a backup
Download or copy /ConanSandbox/Saved/blacklist.txt to a separate location. Preserve the original filename and a dated copy, such as a local archive labeled with the maintenance date. A backup gives you a recovery path if you remove the wrong entry or the server fails to parse the edited file.
3. Open the correct file
In the server file manager or FTP connection, navigate to:

/ConanSandbox/Saved/blacklist.txt
Open it as plain text. Make sure you are editing the saved-data directory for the active server instance, not a similarly named test, staging or backup directory.
4. Identify the player’s line
Find the entry associated with the banned player and compare every available identifier before deleting anything. Published instructions disagree about the format: some describe an AccountID:Account Name entry, while others describe a Steam64ID. Because that difference has not been resolved across versions, do not assume that a name, account ID or platform ID is interchangeable. If you cannot confidently match the line, stop and use listbans through RCON or ask the player for the identifier displayed by the server.
5. Remove only that entry
Delete the complete line for the intended player, leaving the other lines and the file’s existing line structure unchanged. Do not use a word processor, add rich-text formatting, or rewrite unrelated entries. Save the file in plain-text form with the same filename.
6. Restart and verify
Start the server from the dashboard and wait until it reports that the game server is online. Once RCON is available, run listbans. The removed entry should be absent. If the player still cannot join, stop further edits and work through the troubleshooting section below; immediately deleting more lines can turn a single identifier problem into a wider ban-list problem.

The unban procedure is better documented than the ban syntax. Different guides list /ban <PlayerID>, AdminBan and unban <playername>, while another source states that the game has no kick or ban console command. These claims cannot all describe the same command set, and no official Funcom command reference was located to resolve the conflict.

For that reason, do not publish or automate a ban command merely because it appears in a guide. First run help in your own RCON console and use only the syntax it reports. If your hosting panel supplies a documented player-management or ban control, follow that panel’s current instructions. If neither the console nor the panel exposes a verified ban action, obtain confirmation for your exact Conan Exiles server build before changing files or scripts. The file procedure above establishes how to remove an existing line; it does not establish a universally safe method for adding a new ban line by hand.
Is there an in-game unban button?
Reports are inconsistent. Some hosting instructions say there is no in-game unban function and that administrators must use a panel or FTP. A Funcom forum discussion and another hosting guide describe an Unban control in a Banned Players list. The discrepancy may reflect different game versions, server configurations or changes over time.
Check your own administrative interface: open the available admin or player-management menus, locate Banned Players if it exists, and look for an explicit Unban action. If that control is absent, do not infer that another menu or chat command will work; use RCON or the stopped-server file method instead.
Troubleshooting common failures
unbanplayer returns “unknown command”
Run help and confirm whether the command is listed. If it is not, stop the server and use the backed-up blacklist.txt procedure. Do not substitute a similarly named command from a different guide without confirmation from your server’s own command list.
listbans shows no matching player
Check that you are connected to the correct server instance and that the player supplied the account or platform identifier used by that server. A character name can differ from the account identifier. If the player was banned through a host panel or an external access-control layer rather than the game’s ban list, the entry may not appear in RCON; inspect the panel’s own ban-management area.

The command succeeds but the player still cannot connect
Run listbans again and verify that the exact identifier is gone. If it is absent, ask the player to close and relaunch the game client before retrying. Also check for a second ban entry tied to another identifier and for a separate panel-level block. Do not edit the file while the server is running merely because a reconnect failed.
The entry returns after a restart
This usually indicates that the wrong file or server instance was edited, the running server overwrote an edit made before shutdown completed, or the change was not saved as plain text. Stop the server, compare the active path with /ConanSandbox/Saved/blacklist.txt, restore the backup if necessary, and make one controlled edit before restarting.

Do not guess from a similar name. The documented formats differ between AccountID-and-name entries and Steam64ID entries. Obtain the identifier from listbans, match it exactly, and keep a copy of the untouched file before removing anything.
The server does not start after a manual edit
Stop trying additional edits. Restore the backup file, confirm that its filename and plain-text format are unchanged, and start the server again. Once it is online, use RCON for the next unban attempt so the game applies the change itself.

- Confirm the target server and obtain the exact userid or platformid.
- Run
helpbefore using any command not already verified on that server. - Use

- Remove only the matched line and preserve plain-text formatting.
- Restart, wait for the server to come online, and verify the ban list again.
- Record what identifier was changed and when, so a mistaken unban can be reversed from the backup.
