Between Pledge and Forgettance is a three-part Natlan World Quest series: Lost in the Woods, Rite of the Bold, and Revelations from the Past. Follow that order: rescue and accompany a young Saurian, complete Manqu’s duel challenge, then explore the ruins with the Traveler and the Saurian companion.
How to start the quest series
The series begins with Lost in the Woods in Natlan. One walkthrough places its start at the encounter during Natlan’s opening. If it does not appear, check your active Archon Quest and World Quest objectives; the available guides do not identify a special item as a requirement. The exact trigger timing is not fully established, so follow the in-game objective if it differs.
Lost in the Woods: rescue the Saurian
- Defeat the Rifthounds you encounter.
- Free the Saurian whelp trapped beneath the rock.
- Speak with it, give it a name, and follow it.
- Leave the strange space to finish this stage.
This opening quest introduces the young Saurian who accompanies you in the later ruin sequence.
Rite of the Bold: complete Manqu’s duel
- Go to the Children of Echoes and speak with Manqu.
- Follow the quest objective to the duel arena.
- Defeat Pacal.
- Speak with Manqu again to advance the quest.
The walkthrough sources establish the duel and progression steps, but do not specify a required party, character level, or combat tactic.
Revelations from the Past: explore the ruins
- Proceed to the ruins after completing Rite of the Bold.
- Follow the quest markers through the ruin.
- When you reach a mechanism, use the Traveler or the Saurian companion as indicated by the visible interaction and quest objective; switching between them is part of progressing through the mechanisms.
The available walkthrough descriptions confirm the companion-and-Traveler mechanism sequence but do not verify every room’s exact switch or puzzle solution. Use the on-screen marker and mechanism prompts rather than assuming one interaction applies to every room.

HoYoverse’s Version 5.5 update notice lists completing Between Pledge and Forgettance as one prerequisite for A Finale Emberforged. That later quest also requires Lost Traveler in the Ashen Realm and two Golden Entreaties. These are requirements for the later content, not for starting this quest series.
