To beat the Goldflame Qucusaur Tyrant, bring a ranged character—preferably one that can apply Hydro—and use it to attack the boss’s airborne Ward and Flamewind Feather. Destroy the feather before the boss dives into it; otherwise, it returns to the sky and the cycle continues. The arena is at Huitztli Hill in Natlan, northwest of the Basin of Unnumbered Flames.
Where to find the Goldflame Qucusaur Tyrant
The boss is at Huitztli Hill, northwest of the Basin of Unnumbered Flames. For the route, unlock the Statue of the Seven in the Basin, then follow the road northwest toward the arena entrance at the foot of Huitztli Hill. Game8’s location guide provides this approach; the HoYoWiki boss entry confirms the Natlan location and includes an interactive map.
How the Golden Flame phase works
The boss can fly up and enter its “Golden Flame” energy-gathering form. In this phase, it creates a Ward and launches a Flamewind Feather toward the ground. The feather summons a flamewind. If you do not destroy it before the Qucusaur dives into it, the boss uses a Phlogiston Current to return to the sky. The process repeats until it becomes exhausted and returns to its original form, according to the HoYoWiki tutorial.
The tutorial identifies elements that react with Pyro as the key to destroying the feather. Game8 specifically recommends Hydro against both the airborne shield and the feather. Treat Hydro as a practical recommendation, not a requirement: the essential counter is to use a Pyro-reactive element and hit the airborne targets in time.

How to stop the Flamewind Feather
- Keep a ranged attacker ready. Choose a character who can reach the Qucusaur while it is airborne and apply an element that reacts with Pyro. Hydro is the clearest option in the cited strategy guide.
- Attack the Ward and feather during Golden Flame. When the feather appears, target it promptly rather than waiting for the boss to land. Game8 advises attacking the airborne shield as well; breaking it brings the boss down, and its guide says a faster break gives you a longer incapacitated window.
- Repeat the counter if the boss returns to the sky. If the feather survives until the dive, the described sequence sends the Qucusaur back into the air. Resume applying your Pyro-reactive attacks when the next opportunity appears.
- Use the exhausted opening for damage. Once the boss is exhausted and grounded, switch to your main damage dealer and take advantage of the opening.
Choosing a team for the fight
Build around what the encounter asks you to do, rather than a prescribed lineup. A useful team has a character who can hit the boss in flight, reliable application of an element that reacts with Pyro, and enough damage to make use of the exhausted window.
- Airborne reach: Include a ranged attacker or another character whose attacks can connect while the boss is aloft.
- Reliable elemental application: Hydro is highlighted by Game8 for the Ward and feather, but the HoYoWiki tutorial describes the counter more broadly as an element that reacts with Pyro.
- Damage during the opening: Bring a main damage dealer who can capitalize when the Qucusaur is grounded and exhausted.
The HoYoLAB community guide shows example teams, including free-to-play lineups and teams with ranged Hydro application. These are options, not required compositions; choose among characters and builds you already have.
