Defeat Tiger’s Acolyte to get the Old Rattle-Drum, use it at three prompt areas in Yellow Wind Ridge, then follow the final scene to a well and defeat Mad Tiger. The screen turning gray, accompanied by coughing and a child’s voice, signals when to use the drum.
Get the Old Rattle-Drum
In Chapter 2’s Yellow Wind Ridge, defeat Tiger’s Acolyte on the bridge near Windrest Hamlet Shrine. Gamer Guides places the bridge beyond Crouching Tiger Temple, after Tiger Vanguard; defeating the Acolyte awards the Old Rattle-Drum key item. Use the drum at the three prompt areas
At each interaction point, watch for the screen to turn gray, hear a cough and a young girl’s voice, then use the Old Rattle-Drum. These environmental cues are more useful than trying to find a visible object to interact with.
Windseal Gate
Start at Windseal Gate Shrine. Take the path to the shrine’s left and cross the rope bridge. On the far side, turn left through the ruined building. Use the drum when the gray-screen cue appears.

Windrest Hamlet
At Windrest Hamlet Shrine, turn around and descend toward the village. Go through the gate and turn left to reach the next prompt area. Use the drum when the cue begins.
Sandgate Village
From Village Entrance Shrine, head toward the Earth Wolf area. Look near the arena and the nearby shortcut-door and well area; follow the path around the wall until the gray-screen cue appears, then use the drum for the final time.

Follow the scene to Mad Tiger

Mad Tiger fight pointers
Gamer Guides characterizes Mad Tiger as aggressive, with multi-hit swipes and a jumping boulder attack. Its advice is to attack briefly between dodges and roll toward the boss as it comes down with the boulder. This is walkthrough guidance, not a guarantee that a particular tactic will work in every situation.
Collect the quest rewards
After defeating Mad Tiger, collect the Mad Tiger Spirit. Gamer Guides also reports a Plaguebane Gourd in a wooden chest at the back of the boss arena, and the Buried in the Sand achievement or trophy for completing the quest. What the Old Rattle-Drum does
The item’s in-game description, reproduced by Game8, says: “Though this rattle-drum is somewhat worn and tattered, when shaken, it still makes a lively clatter.” Its purpose in this quest is to trigger the three encounters along the route.
