Use Pokémon with Flying-type attacks first: Mega Heracross is Bug/Fighting and Flying attacks deal double-effective damage. Fairy, Fire, and Psychic attacks are also super effective. Bring your strongest Pokémon with moves that exploit those weaknesses, and team up if you need more damage or survivability.
Which Pokémon should you use against Mega Heracross?
Prioritize Flying-type attackers and, where possible, give them both a Flying-type fast move and a Flying-type charged move. The Pokémon Company’s Mega Heracross raid guide lists examples including Rayquaza or Mega Rayquaza, Ho-Oh, Pidgeot or Mega Pidgeot, Yveltal, Staraptor, Tornadus, and Honchkrow.

If your best Flying options are unavailable or underpowered, use strong Pokémon with Fairy-, Fire-, or Psychic-type attacks. The guide’s examples include Moltres for Fire; Enamorus and Gardevoir for Fairy; and Lugia, Mewtwo, and Gardevoir for Psychic. These are examples, not a required lineup: select the strongest eligible Pokémon in your roster whose attacks actually exploit a weakness.
- Check moves, not just species. A Pokémon on a recommended list only helps as a counter when its attacks hit one of Mega Heracross’s weaknesses.
- Favor powered-up Pokémon. Compare your options by their level and overall strength as well as their move types.
- Check Elite TM requirements. The official guide marks some moves with an asterisk; those moves normally require an Elite Fast TM or Elite Charged TM.
The Pokémon Company’s guide says same-type attacks receive a 20% damage bonus. Prefer an attack that both exploits Mega Heracross’s weakness and matches the Pokémon’s type when choosing between otherwise comparable moves.

How to improve your odds during the raid
Bring a Mega-Evolved Pokémon if you can
A Mega-Evolved Pokémon raises its own CP, Attack, Defense, and HP. While it is on the battlefield, it also boosts other Trainers’ attacks; attacks matching its type receive a further boost. If several players have Mega-Evolved Pokémon active, their bonuses do not stack beyond the highest applicable boost. Choose a Mega that supports the attacks your group is using when possible.
Coordinate and dodge charged attacks
Join other Trainers or invite friends if the raid is difficult. The Pokémon GO Help Center raid guidance recommends super-effective attacks and dodging the boss’s charged attacks to keep your Pokémon in battle longer.

Rejoin if your first attempt fails
If your team faints before the raid timer ends, you can rejoin the same raid while time remains without spending another Raid Pass. Use the remaining time to select a fresh team built around super-effective moves.
What do you get for defeating Mega Heracross?
Defeating a Mega Raid Boss awards Mega Energy and an encounter with the regular, non-Mega form of the Pokémon. The Mega Energy reward depends on how quickly your group wins; the raid summary reflects this with its Speed stat.

The Pokémon Company’s 2024 guide lists a Heracross encounter CP range of 1,693–1,772, or 2,116–2,215 with a weather boost. Those are the ranges published in that guide’s context, not a guarantee for any individual catch.
