To block a person on Steam, open their profile, select the three-dot menu, choose Block all communication, and confirm. The wording matters: Block all communication is Steam’s account-level communication control. Selecting it stops the contact methods Steam lists for a blocked player; it is not merely a way to hide a message thread.
What should happen immediately?
After confirmation, Steam should replace the block command with an option to manage or undo the block when you revisit the account. The person can no longer send the invitations, Steam Chat messages, or profile and community comments covered by Steam’s blocking policy. If your objective is also to stop being friends, perform the separate Remove Friend action as well.

Can I block a person from Friends & Chat or a pending invite?
Yes. Steam provides alternate entry points so you do not have to navigate to a profile first. Friends & Chat appears in the lower-right corner of the desktop client, and the same interface is available in a web browser.
Block from Friends & Chat
- Open Friends & Chat in the lower-right corner of Steam, or open the equivalent Friends & Chat view in your browser.

Steam documents pending invites as another place to block a player. If the invite view does not expose the command in your current client layout, open the sender’s profile and use the three-dot menu there.
How do I block someone in the Steam mobile app?
A current walkthrough for the Steam mobile app places the command on the person’s profile: open the profile, tap the three-dot menu, and choose Block All Communication. The same walkthrough also shows a block option after you begin Report Player.

- Open Friends & Chat.
- Right-click the blocked user.
- Choose Manage.
- Select Unblock All Communication.

What is the safest order when someone is harassing or scamming me?

Does blocking affect access to games or matchmaking?

Those support instructions do not define a separate gameplay or matchmaking penalty, so treat the control as a communication boundary rather than a substitute for a game-specific moderation report.
For an issue inside a particular game, follow that game’s own reporting tools as well as Steam’s account-level options when appropriate.
Can I block someone without deleting the friendship?
