To improve Valorant’s frame rate, first identify whether you have low average FPS, uneven frame pacing, or brief drops. Then change one setting at a time and compare performance under similar conditions. Closing unnecessary background apps, checking that the game uses your intended graphics adapter, and keeping graphics drivers current are sensible troubleshooting steps—not guaranteed FPS boosts.
Diagnose the problem before changing settings
“Low FPS” can describe different issues, and each calls for a different response. A consistently low frame rate may point to a settings or hardware limit; stuttering or sudden drops may have another cause. Don’t assume which component is responsible before checking how the PC behaves while Valorant is running.
- Low average FPS: The game is rendering fewer frames than you want most of the time.
- Uneven frame pacing: The displayed motion feels inconsistent even if the average frame rate seems adequate.
- Short drops: Performance is usually acceptable but falls briefly, potentially alongside other system activity.
Compare results in similar game conditions. A change that appears to help during one match may not be responsible if the scene or background workload also changed.
Start with reversible PC checks
Close unnecessary background applications
Quit apps and processes you do not need while playing, then check whether the issue changes. Riot’s troubleshooting guidance for technical problems includes checking for background-process conflicts, but it does not quantify an FPS improvement. Treat this as a diagnostic step, not a promised fix. Riot Games Support: Troubleshooting Game Crashes on Launch

Confirm the intended graphics adapter is in use
If your PC has more than one display adapter, verify that Valorant is using the one you intend for gaming. This is a check rather than a guaranteed remedy; the right setting and path depend on your PC configuration.
Check graphics drivers
Make sure the driver for your graphics adapter is current, particularly if you are troubleshooting a technical issue. Riot’s cited launch-troubleshooting guidance includes updating graphics drivers, but it does not claim a measured FPS gain from doing so. Riot Games Support: Troubleshooting Game Crashes on Launch

Adjust Valorant’s graphics settings methodically
- Record your current settings and observe performance in a repeatable situation.
- Change one graphics setting at a time, then compare performance under similar conditions.
- Keep a change only if it improves the issue you are trying to solve without making the game unpleasant to play.
This process helps you identify which adjustment matters on your PC. There is no single setting change established here as a universal fix, and results can vary with hardware, configuration, and software.
Check for heat or a hardware limit before buying parts
Use a trustworthy system-monitoring tool to check component temperatures and utilization while the game is running. Look for patterns that coincide with the performance problem rather than treating one reading as proof. The goal is to establish whether a component is limiting performance before spending money.

If measurements indicate that the GPU is the constraint, a graphics-card upgrade may be relevant. If they do not, a GPU purchase may fail to address the cause. Compare an upgrade’s platform compatibility, resolution and settings, performance measured under comparable Valorant conditions, power and cooling needs, and total cost. No current controlled hardware comparison is established here, so there is no basis to rank specific cards or promise a particular FPS.
What Riot’s PC specifications do—and don’t—tell you
Riot Games Support publishes example component tiers associated with 30 FPS, 60 FPS, and 144 FPS, along with a 4 GB minimum RAM figure and DirectX 11. These are Riot’s stated specification tiers, not independent benchmark results or guarantees for every PC, setting, or match. The page does not establish when those specifications were published. FPS describes how many frames the PC renders; a monitor’s refresh rate describes how often its display can refresh. Buying a faster-refresh display does not, by itself, make the PC render more frames. Consider a display upgrade separately from diagnosing the computer’s performance.
