Start by checking the notice board at Wharf Crossing North; if the quest is not available, progress the Dock Town story and return to the board.
Unlock the quest and find the first note
Check the notice board at Wharf Crossing North in Dock Town. Guide descriptions differ on the precise unlock point: the Dragon Age Wiki lists The Cobbled Swan Case as a prerequisite, while NightlyGamingBinge places the board opportunity during After the Storm. If the notice is missing, continue the Dock Town questline and check again.
The first clue is not at the board. Go toward Wharf Crossing South and enter the red-lit bar or store near the beacon. Read the note on the table.
Find the second clue at Tidarion Tower
Travel to Tidarion Tower, near Side Alley Bridge. Enter the ruined tower, climb to its upper level, then cross outside along the elevated route to reach a chest and the second note. The chest is also reported to contain a Shimmering Sight Charm; collecting it is optional. See GamePressure and Prima Games for the location details.

Go to Shoreline Passage and look beside the Paper Seller, near the shop entrance. Read the note on the small table. Following the three clues leads to the Heavy Bronze Key, which you need to open the treasure-room door.
Reach the Ancient Door in the catacombs
- Use the catacombs entrance by Shoreline Passage.
- Follow the quest marker toward the new passage and the Ancient Door. Written directions vary: Prima Games describes taking the second left after entering, while the wiki points to the northwestern route from the central room. Use the marker if the layout does not match the description.

Quest rewards and follow-up
Game8 reports 500 XP and +100 Shadow Dragons Strength for completing the quest, along with increased bond with your current companions. Game8’s walkthrough and Prima Games agree on the XP and faction-strength amounts. Prima also reports rarity increases for Taash’s Battlehorn Axe, Flying Kite Targe, and Magister’s Bargain Amulet; treat these as guide-reported chest rewards, since walkthroughs do not list every reward identically.
Completion reportedly accepts or triggers Desperate in Dock Town. That does not necessarily unlock all of its later content: Prima notes that access to the Demon of Desperation content also depends on completing In Memoriam.
