How to Build a Fyreslayers Army in Age of Sigmar (2026 Guide)

Fyreslayers remain playable as an all-Fyreslayers force, but the imminent Khazalite Holds battletome changes the roster. Learn what is retained, what moves to Legends, and what to verify before building a current list.

You can still build an all-Fyreslayers army, but do not copy an older list or buy models based on April 2026 points alone. On 9 October 2026, Warhammer announced that Fyreslayers are joining the wider Khazalite Holds faction in the imminent Battletome: Khazalite Holds. The announcement keeps an all-Fyreslayers force possible, including through the Fyrd of Fyrepeak Army of Renown, while moving Vulkite Berzerkers and several familiar heroes and faction assets toward Warhammer Legends. The final book and updated battle profiles—not the older points snapshot—need to govern a current roster.

This guide separates what the announcement establishes from what still needs checking when the book and profiles are available. It gives you a safe way to plan around models you own, choose a force style, and avoid mixing old and seasonal rules.

Start with the 2026 transition

Fyreslayers remain playable as a force of Fyreslayers units, according to Warhammer’s 9 October 2026 announcement. You can also choose the Fyrd of Fyrepeak Army of Renown. At the same time, the faction is being folded into the wider Khazalite Holds book, so an army built from older Fyreslayers advice may no longer reflect the incoming unit roster, rules, or points.

The key practical distinction is between a unit retained in the announced battletome roster and one announced for Warhammer Legends. A move to Legends does not mean that a model becomes unusable immediately: Warhammer says affected units will remain usable in competitive events for a year after the new book releases before moving into Legends. Since the announcement calls the book imminent but does not establish its release date or the final event rules, check the released book and the event pack before relying on that transition window.

Units announced for the new battletome

The announcement names these Fyreslayers units: Auric Runefather on Magmadroth, Auric Runeson on Magmadroth, Auric Runesmiter on Magmadroth, Auric Runefather, Auric Runeson, Auric Runesmiter, Auric Flamekeeper, Grimhold Exile, Vulkyn Flameseekers, Auric Hearthguard, and Hearthguard Berzerkers. It also introduces the characters Ormyr and Ashtongue. Gotrek Gurnisson receives an honourable mention in the article, but the announcement’s unit list should not be treated as a complete statement of every rule or inclusion requirement for the final book.

Units and assets announced for Legends

Warhammer says the following are moving to Legends: Vulkite Berzerkers, Auric Runemaster, Battlesmith, Doomseeker, Grimwrath Berzerker, Magmic Battleforge, and Magmic Invocations. That status matters both for list planning and purchases. In particular, do not treat Vulkite Berzerkers as a future-proof core choice for the incoming battletome just because older lists used them.

Warhammer characterizes the direction of the new Fyreslayers force as more elite, with Hearthguard and Flameseekers forming infantry alongside Magmadroths and characters. That is the publisher’s description of the incoming faction direction, not proof that any one combination is the strongest choice in matched play. The full book and updated profiles are needed to compare their final costs, abilities, and construction restrictions.

Choose the kind of army you are building

Before selecting units, decide what the army needs to do for you. There is no universally best list or recommended points limit established by the official material available as of 13 October 2026. Your game format, event rules, existing collection, and intended points limit should shape the roster.

Your situation Planning approach What to verify
Casual game with friends Agree on the rules version and unit eligibility with your opponent, then build around models you enjoy using. If both players are comfortable with older rules or Legends units, make that agreement before the game. Which battletome and battle profiles the group is using, and whether Legends units are allowed.
Specific matched-play event Use the event’s points limit, battlepack, and roster-submission requirements as the starting constraints. Do not assume a unit’s general event eligibility guarantees that a particular event permits it. The current event pack, official battle profiles, warscroll version rules, and any Legends policy.
Building from an existing Fyreslayers collection Sort models into those named for the new battletome and those announced for Legends. Build a plan around the retained roster first; treat Legends models as conditional on the rules environment. The book’s release status, final unit roster, points, and transition timing.
Starting a new collection Plan with the retained roster announced for the new battletome rather than an older online list. Choose a model role and force style first, but defer exact quantities until current points and restrictions are published. Current product availability and the released rules; the announcement does not establish prices, stock, or kit contents.

If you may want to expand beyond an all-Fyreslayers force, decide whether that broader Khazalite Holds direction suits you before committing to a collection plan. The announcement confirms the wider faction transition and the option of an all-Fyreslayers force; it does not provide enough final rules detail to explain every possible mixed-faction construction or restriction.

Build the force around the retained roster

Until the new points and full rules can be checked, think in roles rather than trying to lock in a finished list. The official announcement supports discussion of three broad model groups: Magmadroth-mounted heroes, infantry, and other characters. It does not establish final points, unit sizes, battlefield roles in the released book, or a single recommended combination.

Magmadroth-mounted heroes

The announced roster retains three mounted heroes: Auric Runefather, Auric Runeson, and Auric Runesmiter on Magmadroths. They are clear candidates if you want a force plan that includes a large mounted centerpiece, but the announcement alone cannot establish which is most efficient or how many fit into a given points limit. Compare their final warscrolls, points, and army restrictions in the released materials before choosing one as the foundation of a matched-play list.

Hearthguard and Auric Hearthguard

Hearthguard Berzerkers and Auric Hearthguard are both named in the incoming roster. They give a new list-building plan retained infantry options to examine instead of relying on Vulkite Berzerkers. The announcement describes Hearthguard as part of the infantry direction, but it does not provide enough detail to prescribe unit sizes, weapon choices, or a preferred balance between the two Hearthguard units.

Vulkyn Flameseekers

Vulkyn Flameseekers are also retained in the announced roster and are part of the publisher’s description of the incoming infantry force. Their final points and rules need to be checked in the new book. The April 2026 profile value below is historical context, not a current cost to use in a new roster.

Other characters and named additions

Auric Runefather, Auric Runeson, Auric Runesmiter, Auric Flamekeeper, and Grimhold Exile are among the announced unmounted characters. Ormyr and Ashtongue are new characters named in the same announcement. The final book is needed to determine how their rules interact, what they cost, and any limits on including them. Do not infer those details from their names or from earlier Fyreslayers army lists.

Use April 2026 points only as a dated reference

Warhammer’s April 2026 battle profiles predate the 9 October battletome announcement. Their points are useful for understanding what an older roster snapshot looked like, but should not be used as final costs for a post-transition army. Values with parentheses in the original profiles indicate a change in that source; the incoming battletome may supersede the whole snapshot.

These are game roster values from Warhammer’s April 2026 battle profiles, not miniature prices. Do not add the figures above and assume the result is a legal or balanced current list: the new profiles may change costs, unit sizes, and list-building rules, and the old values do not confirm that an announced Legends unit is legal for your event.

Choose between the seasonal and existing warscroll

For 2026–27 Matched Play, the Scourge of Aqshy seasonal warscrolls are legal according to Warhammer’s season overview. When making an army roster, you choose either the seasonal warscroll or the existing warscroll for a unit; you cannot include both versions of that unit in the same army. Check the event’s battlepack and current official downloads before submitting a list, since the event’s rules determine which material applies.

Seasonal Auric Runeson on Magmadroth

Warhammer’s 30 June 2026 Scourge of Aqshy article gives the seasonal Auric Runeson on Magmadroth a warscroll ability called Seeing Red. It can be used once per turn in any combat phase and spends one rage die. The listed choices let the unit add an attack to its Companion melee weapons, heal based on its fury level, or gain a 5+ ward for the rest of the turn.

This is a choice among distinct effects, not a reason to assume the seasonal version is automatically better in every roster. Compare its current wording and the existing warscroll, then make the either/or choice for that unit when preparing the army. Do not combine the seasonal ability with the existing version as if they were one warscroll.

Handle Legends models without wasting a collection

A move to Warhammer Legends changes the rules context; it does not erase the value of a model you already own. For a casual game, ask your opponent whether the relevant Legends rules are acceptable. For an event, use its written rules rather than relying on a general statement about competitive eligibility. Warhammer’s 9 October announcement says the listed units remain usable in competitive events for a year after the new battletome releases before moving into Legends, but the book’s release date and a particular tournament’s policy still matter.

  • If you are buying models: confirm the current roster status, listing, kit contents, and availability before purchase. The announcement does not establish stock, regional availability, or product details.

The April 2026 profiles also included Warrior Kinband, Forge Brethren, Scales of Vulcatrix, and Lords of the Lodge battle formations; Zharrgrim Blessings prayer lore; and Magmic Invocations and the Magmic Battleforge. Treat these as entries from the older rules snapshot. The announcement specifically moves Magmic Invocations and the Battleforge to Legends, so do not carry these older faction assets into a new list without confirming what the released battletome and current downloads say.

A practical roster-building sequence

This sequence avoids fixing a list around rules that were about to change. Use the final released rules for the actual roster; the October announcement is a guide to the transition, not a substitute for the battletome.

  1. Set the game context. Write down whether the army is for a casual game or a named event, the points limit, the battlepack, and whether Legends units are permitted.
  2. Check the rules date. Confirm that the battletome has released and download the current battle profiles. If you are using an event, use the event’s stated cutoff date and rules documents.
  3. Choose the army route. Decide whether to use the all-Fyreslayers option or the Fyrd of Fyrepeak Army of Renown, then follow the final book’s rules for that route.
  4. Mark your collection by status. Separate models named in the announced new roster from units and assets announced for Legends. Recheck the final book in case the released rules clarify or change the announcement.
  5. Select a force direction. Decide whether you want mounted Magmadroth heroes, an infantry-led force using retained Hearthguard and Flameseekers, or a mixture. Treat these as planning directions, not pre-tested list recommendations.
  6. Price the roster with current values. Use the new profiles, not the April 2026 table, and apply the exact unit sizes and restrictions printed in the current rules.
  7. Choose warscroll versions. For 2026–27 Matched Play, check whether the Scourge of Aqshy option is relevant and select either that or the existing warscroll for each eligible unit, not both.
  8. Validate before submitting. Recheck total points, unit and character limits, faction requirements, Legends eligibility, warscroll version, and the event’s list-submission rules.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Using April points as if they were current: those profiles appeared in April 2026 and predate the October announcement.
  • Assuming an announcement supplies the full rules: the October article names units and describes direction, but it does not replace the released battletome or current profiles.
  • Planning a future roster around Vulkite Berzerkers: they are announced for Legends, even though an older profile gave their points and unit sizes.
  • Treating all competitive events alike: the stated one-year transition is tied to the battletome release, and event packs still determine what a specific tournament accepts.
  • Mixing warscroll versions: the 2026–27 Matched Play choice is seasonal or existing for a unit, not both in one army.
  • Buying first and checking later: neither the announcement nor April profiles establish current product stock, regional availability, kit contents, or final points.

What to verify before calling the army finished

The official information current to 13 October 2026 establishes the intended transition, the announced retained Fyreslayers roster, the named Legends moves, and the seasonal warscroll choice for 2026–27 Matched Play. It does not establish the released battletome’s final rules, current points, a recommended tournament list, or product availability. Before playing an event or making a significant purchase, verify the released Battletome: Khazalite Holds, its current official battle profiles, the relevant battlepack, and any event-specific eligibility rules.
