Build Gourgeist’s Creepy pumpkins habitat with a Trevenant streetlight, Pumpkin lantern and Pumpkin lantern tower. Build Pumpkaboo’s Give me something good to eat habitat with any table, a Candy bucket and a Ghost smoke projector. Reusing a table, both habitats require 11 Pumpkin Candy; buying the optional Huge table raises that to 12. Gourgeist’s three pieces must form a vertical stack, while Pumpkaboo’s Pokémon remains at the Pokémon Center until the event period ends.
What do I need before building either habitat?
Pumpkaboo’s Sweet Surprises is scheduled for October 17, 2026, at 5:00 a.m. through November 1, 2026, at 4:59 a.m. local time, according to Nintendo’s 2026 event notice. Your Switch 2 must use software version 2.0.1, and the town must meet all of these conditions:

- Use other Pokémon’s moves, like Bulbasaur’s Leafage, to revitalize and navigate the world around you.
- Meet and befriend more Pokémon as you help nature flourish.
- Gather materials to create items and furniture, till the fields to grow delicious crops, build homes for the Pokémon you meet, and more—there’s so much to do!
- Experience a world with varied weather, real-time days and nights, and other surprises.
- Purchase a Trevenant streetlight, Pumpkin lantern and Pumpkin lantern tower.
- Place the Trevenant streetlight in an open dirt or grass area.
- Set the Pumpkin lantern beside the streetlight’s base.
- Place the Pumpkin lantern tower directly on top of the Pumpkin lantern. Do not put the tower beside it; that arrangement will not register.
- Wait for the restoration banner. Leave the area and return, then speak with Gourgeist to complete the friendship conversation and add it to town.
The vertical placement is the critical requirement. If no restoration banner appears, pick up the tower and place it on the lantern itself, keeping all three objects together.
How do I build Pumpkaboo’s Give me something good to eat habitat?
This habitat needs a table, a Candy bucket and a Ghost smoke projector. Any table you already own works, so the required purchases cost 5 Pumpkin Candy: 2 for the bucket and 3 for the projector. The optional Huge table adds 1 Pumpkin Candy.

- Place any table in the desired habitat area.
- Put the Candy bucket with the table.
- Place the Ghost smoke projector beside the table.
Pumpkaboo can be prepared during the event, but it does not move into the finished habitat immediately. It stays at the Pokémon Center while the event and shop period are active, then moves into the habitat after the period ends.

How do the two habitats differ?
| Habitat | Pokémon | Required furniture | Cost | Placement rule | When it joins town |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Creepy pumpkins | Gourgeist | Trevenant streetlight, Pumpkin lantern, Pumpkin lantern tower | 6 Pumpkin Candy | Tower must sit on top of the lantern; lantern sits beside the streetlight | After the habitat registers and you finish the friendship conversation |
| Give me something good to eat | Pumpkaboo | Any table, Candy bucket, Ghost smoke projector | 5 Pumpkin Candy with an existing table; 6 with the Huge table | Bucket with the table; projector beside it | After the event/shop period ends |
Nintendo describes the exchange furniture as a way to befriend Gourgeist, while the Pokémon Company confirms that befriended Pumpkaboo and Gourgeist remain in town after the haunting event ends.
How much Pumpkin Candy do both habitats require?
With a table already in your inventory, budget 11 Pumpkin Candy: 6 for Gourgeist and 5 for Pumpkaboo. Buying the optional Huge table makes the total 12. The table choice is therefore the only difference between the minimum and upgraded budget.

How can I earn Pumpkin Candy?
Use Camouflage to disguise Ditto as an object liked by a nearby Pokémon. Wait until the Pokémon’s speech bubble identifies the disguise, then change back to Ditto to scare it. AllThingsHow reports a reward of one to three Pumpkin Candy per successful scare, so the number of encounters needed varies.
A practical farming loop
- Find a nearby Pokémon and activate Camouflage.
- Remain disguised until its speech bubble names the object it likes.
- Change back to Ditto to trigger the scare.
- Collect the Pumpkin Candy reward and repeat until the habitat budget is met.
Why is the habitat not registering?
- Gourgeist’s tower is beside the lantern: lift it and place it directly on top of the Pumpkin lantern.
- The pieces are separated: rebuild the arrangement in one open dirt or grass area, with the lantern beside the streetlight base.
- No event furniture is available: confirm the event has started, the Pokémon Center is rebuilt and version 2.0.1 is installed.
- The event will not launch: verify the real-date Switch 2 clock and connect to the internet for the initial launch.
- Pumpkaboo is not in the completed habitat: this is expected before November 1, 2026, at 4:59 a.m. local time; it remains at the Pokémon Center until the event period ends.
- You are in Cloud Islands or Bubbly Basin: move to a town area where the event is supported.
For Gourgeist, once the restoration banner appears, leave and re-enter the area before speaking with it. That refreshes the encounter and enables the final friendship conversation.

Can I use a table I already own for Pumpkaboo’s habitat?
Yes. The recipe accepts any table type, so an existing table avoids the extra Pumpkin Candy spent on the optional Huge table. The table only needs the Candy bucket placed with it and the Ghost smoke projector beside it.

Will Pumpkaboo and Gourgeist disappear when the Halloween event ends?
No. Nintendo and the Pokémon Company state that befriended Pokémon remain in your town after the event. Pumpkaboo’s delayed move is a timing rule, not a temporary residency.
Does the event work on every island in Pokémon Pokopia?
No. Nintendo excludes Cloud Islands and Bubbly Basin from the event. Build the habitats in a supported town area instead.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesWhat happens if I start the event with the wrong console date?
Nintendo requires the Switch 2 clock to match the real date and time. Correct the clock, ensure version 2.0.1 is installed, and connect online when launching the event again.
