For campaign, start with Arthur, Bella, Celia, Claire and your strongest available Warrior. Arthur and Bella hold the frontline, Celia supplies support and resource utility, Claire provides area damage and team attack buffs, and the fifth Warrior preserves the five-hero faction bonus. If you make the optional low-cost purchase that unlocks her, Marlena is the most useful upgrade for that flex slot because her area burst works in both campaign and PvP. In PvP, do not use one unchanging lineup: keep Arthur as the anchor, scout the opponent, and swap your damage dealer or counter faction to exploit the matchup.

The campaign team to build first
The most practical broadly accessible campaign core is built around one job per slot rather than five high-rarity heroes with no investment. Use Arthur as the primary tank, Bella as a second tank, Celia as support, Claire as the main carry and a fifth Warrior chosen from the strongest hero you actually own and can raise. This arrangement gives you a durable front, sustained damage, resource acceleration and a complete five-hero faction bonus.

Do not treat the flex slot as permanently assigned. A newly unlocked, well-raised Warrior can replace an older one, and Harper can eventually take the position when she becomes available on your server. The correct choice is the Warrior with the best combination of level, ascension, gear and useful skills, not automatically the hero with the highest rarity label.

Why this composition works
Two tanks absorb the campaign pressure
Campaign stages concentrate ordinary attacks on the frontline. Arthur’s mitigation reduces the amount of healing and gear required to keep the group alive, while Bella adds a second health pool and PvE monster damage reduction. If one tank falls, the other can buy time for Claire’s area attack to finish a wave.
Arthur deserves the earliest serious investment. The community squad model behind the unofficial squad builder reports that removing him lowers the best remaining five-hero result to 64/100 because he supplies the largest shield and two sources of damage reduction. Pocket Gamer’s independent role description also identifies his protection of the team as his defining value. These are community-model and guide assessments, not publisher combat statistics, but both point to the same practical priority.
Claire turns a stable frontline into a clear speed
Claire is not only a damage dealer. Her buff applies to the three Warriors with the highest attack, which makes a Warrior-heavy formation more efficient than a mixed roster with the same individual power. Her area sword attack also helps against groups, where a single-target specialist can leave several wounded enemies alive to retaliate.
Celia pays back investment over a long campaign
Celia’s resource increase from Resource and Elite monsters is easy to undervalue because it does not appear as a large hit number. Over many stages, the extra resources improve hero levels, gear and shard progress for the whole account. Her starter-SSR status also makes skill and ascension progress less demanding than building several late-game UR heroes at once.
The fifth Warrior completes the faction bonus
The formation guide lists these same-faction bonuses: three heroes grant +5% attributes, four grant +15%, and five grant +20%. That final step is large enough to justify a slightly less fashionable fifth Warrior when the alternative would break the five-hero bonus. Replace the slot only when the incoming hero’s actual investment or counter value compensates for the lost attributes.

Formation: who goes in front and who stays behind
Place Arthur and Bella on the frontline. They receive most ordinary enemy attacks and should carry the defensive equipment, health upgrades and damage-reduction effects. Put Celia and Claire in the backline, with the flex Warrior behind the tanks unless that hero is specifically built to dive or intercept.
Backline placement is safer, not invulnerable. Area-of-effect attacks can still reach those positions, so check enemy skills before assuming Claire or Celia will survive. If a stage repeatedly kills Claire before her second attack, move the more durable flex Warrior to the exposed backline position or adjust gear for speed and survivability rather than removing both tanks.
Faction counters can override the bonus
The documented counter triangle is Warrior counters Warlock, Warlock counters Ranger, and Ranger counters Warrior. The countering faction takes 20% less damage from the opposing faction. In a routine campaign stage, the +20% five-hero bonus and Arthur’s protection usually make the all-Warrior core the simplest choice. Against a stage dominated by one faction, however, a counter hero can be worth more than a small attribute increase, particularly when the counter hero is already well raised.
How many tanks and damage dealers should you run?
The unofficial squad builder models effectiveness as survivability multiplied by damage per second over a 30-second reference fight. Its analysis covered 169,911 five-hero squads, identified as Wiki Last Asylum data from 2026. In that community model, five tanks scored 77/100 efficiency points, while five damage dealers scored 15/100. The result is not a claim that five tanks are the best practical team; it shows how strongly survivability influences a long fight when all other factors are held constant.
The same model’s strongest general shape is three tanks plus two damage dealers, or three tanks plus one damage dealer and one support. Your campaign core uses two dedicated tanks because Celia’s resource utility and Claire’s damage are unusually valuable, and the flex Warrior can provide a third durable body when a stage demands it. Add a third tank temporarily if the timer allows it and your backline dies before the enemy does; return to the faster Claire-centered setup when survival is no longer the limiting factor.

Investment order for a new account
- Raise Arthur first. Spend your best early defensive gear, level materials and relevant fragments on him. His shield and damage reduction improve the survival of every other slot.
- Keep Bella close behind. A second tank prevents campaign walls caused by a single frontline death. Use Alliance Shop fragments consistently rather than leaving her underdeveloped.
- Build Claire as the main damage project. Upgrade her attack, area skill and the equipment that lets her cast before the enemy wave overwhelms the tanks.
- Develop Celia steadily. Her resource effect compounds over repeated farming, so she should remain in the campaign team even when her immediate damage is modest.
- Concentrate remaining materials on one flex Warrior. Do not split scarce shards and gear across several mediocre substitutes. A single strong Warrior receives Claire’s attack buff and keeps the faction bonus active.
Investment concentration matters more than rarity collecting. The wiki’s guidance notes that two well-raised SSR heroes can beat five bare UR heroes. A lower-rarity Bella, Claire or Celia with levels, ascension and usable gear is a better campaign contributor than an unbuilt UR occupying the same slot.

Free-to-play core
For a strictly free account, use the listed campaign five and fill the flex slot with the best Warrior available through your normal summons, events or shard routes. Arthur’s summon fragments make him the first realistic UR tank target. Bella’s Alliance Shop fragments provide a repeatable route for the second tank, while Celia’s starter access and Claire’s SSR status make both practical long-term projects.
Save universal resources for the heroes already carrying your formation. A roster with many level-one characters may look flexible, but it delays the thresholds at which Arthur survives a full enemy rotation and Claire clears a wave. Build a replacement only when the replacement can immediately reach a useful level, skill rank or gear breakpoint.
Optional low-spend flex upgrade
Pocket Gamer reports that Marlena costs about $1 through the game’s 1st Top Up pack and that her area damage functions in both PvE and PvP. That figure is a reported price, not a guarantee: verify the current price, regional currency, platform and availability in your own account before purchasing. If the pack is unavailable or you do not spend, keep your strongest free Warrior instead.
Marlena is best viewed as an efficient flex upgrade, not a reason to abandon Arthur, Bella, Celia or Claire. Her burst can shorten campaign waves and gives the same account a ready-made PvP carry, but she still needs levels, skills and gear to outperform an already invested Warrior.

When Harper becomes available
FinalBoss’s free-to-play recommendation allows Harper to take the fifth slot once she is available on the server. Treat that as a progression option rather than a launch requirement. Keep the current Warrior until Harper’s actual investment, faction interaction and skill performance justify the change; availability is server-dependent and can differ by patch.
Building a PvP squad
PvP rewards a different decision process from campaign. Burst timing, target access, scouting and faction counters can outweigh a fixed five-hero bonus. LDShop’s Sakura-authored guide summarizes the principle: the right composition, scouting and type matchups can beat raw power in many fights. That does not make power irrelevant; it means you should spend your power on a lineup that attacks the opponent’s weakness.

The shell is a starting point, not a universal tier list. Grenwald is described in the PvP guide as a high-damage but fragile Warlock option. He can be valuable into Ranger-heavy opponents, but he needs protection and can lose before his damage matters if the enemy has reliable opening burst.
A practical PvP scouting routine
- Inspect the opponent’s dominant faction. Identify whether the visible core is mainly Warriors, Rangers or Warlocks, and note any unusual carry that could bypass the normal triangle.
- Choose the counter before choosing the fifth slot. Rangers are the documented answer to Warrior-heavy teams, Warlocks answer Ranger-heavy teams, and Warriors have the advantage against Warlocks. The countering faction receives 20% less damage from the opposing faction.
- Protect the first target. Keep Arthur or Bella in front of the lane likely to receive the opening attack. Do not expose Marlena, Claire or another fragile carry to the initial burst.
- Prioritize target access over paper damage. A hero that can reach the enemy’s carry or apply area pressure immediately may win more often than a slower hero with a higher listed attack.
- Review the replay and adjust one slot. If your tank survives but your carry dies, improve protection or positioning. If the carry survives and the enemy tank does too, swap the damage or counter slot rather than rebuilding the entire team.
Scouting also tells you when to keep the campaign bonus. If the opponent is mixed and has no clear counter target, your invested five-Warrior core may be stronger than a collection of underdeveloped faction specialists. If the opponent is concentrated and your counter hero is well raised, the 20% damage reduction can matter more than the attributes from a same-faction lineup.

Common mistakes and how to correct them
Chasing rarity instead of a finished build
Five uninvested UR heroes do not automatically beat a developed SSR core. Raise Arthur, Bella, Claire, Celia and one flex hero before spreading resources across every new summon.

Putting the carry on the frontline
Frontline heroes receive most ordinary attacks. Move Claire, Celia and fragile burst heroes behind the tanks unless a specific skill or enemy formation requires a deliberate exception.
Breaking the faction bonus for a weaker counter
The counter system is useful only when the counter hero is strong enough to survive and contribute. Compare the hero’s actual level, skills and gear with the attributes you would lose by leaving the five-hero faction. Do not insert a level-one counter simply because its faction looks correct.
Running five damage dealers
The 2026 community model’s 15/100 result for five damage dealers illustrates the risk: a team that dies before casting has no opportunity to use its theoretical damage. Keep at least two reliable frontline bodies and add a third tank when a stage or opponent consistently wins the opening exchange.
Assuming one PvP lineup beats every opponent
PvP is matchup-dependent. Scout first, identify the enemy faction, then change the counter or target-access slot. Retain the stable Arthur shell while adapting the damage and flex positions.
Ignoring patch and platform differences
The current evidence spans Pocket Gamer’s iOS and Android version 1.0.65 context and FinalBoss’s September 2026 references to iOS v1.0.63 and Android v1.0.102. Prices, hero availability, shard routes and balance can differ by platform, server and update. Check the in-game summon, Alliance Shop and top-up screens rather than assuming an older guide’s route is still active.
How to decide whether a replacement is really better
Before changing a raised hero, compare five things:
- Campaign durability: Does the replacement survive the enemy’s opening rotation without requiring a healer or extra tank?
- Sustained damage: Can it maintain damage through a 30-second-style prolonged fight, or is its value limited to one opening cast?
- PvP access: Can it reach the opposing carry, interrupt the first attack or apply area pressure?
- Faction and counter value: Does it preserve the +20% five-hero bonus, or does it supply the documented 20% counter damage reduction against this opponent?
- Investment cost: Do you have enough shards, skills and gear to make the replacement functional now?
Use the replacement only when it wins on the factor currently stopping your progress. If campaign deaths are the problem, choose durability. If the timer expires with both tanks alive, choose damage. If PvP losses come from an enemy carry deleting your backline, choose scouting, target access and protection rather than another slow damage dealer.
