How to Buy a Delisted PS5 Game: Store, Disc and Voucher Checks

To buy a PS5 game before its Store listing disappears, search for the exact title in the PlayStation Store region linked to your account, verify the edition and checkout details, and complete the purchase while it is still available. If it is already gone, check whether that exact game has a physical PS4 or PS5 edition your console can play, or whether you have access to a valid, unused voucher for the right region. There is no game or account region specified here, so availability, editions, codes and prices must be checked for your particular case.

Check whether the game is still available in your Store

Open the PlayStation Store for the country or region of your PlayStation account and search the exact game title. Store catalogs vary by country or region, so another region’s result does not establish that you can buy it on your account. PlayStation says an account’s country or region cannot be changed after creation: check your account’s country or region.
Inspect the product page to confirm the platform and edition. Make sure the listing is for the game you want—not a bundle or a different release—and check whether add-ons are sold separately.
Review the final checkout details before paying. If the intended listing is available, purchase it through that regional Store; do not rely on search results from another region or assume a listing will remain available for a particular length of time.

Sony’s US March 2026 terms describe Store purchases as a personal, non-commercial license that is not transferable unless applicable local law requires otherwise. That is a US-territory statement, not a substitute for the terms applicable to every region: Sony Interactive Entertainment’s US PlayStation Network Terms of Service.

If the digital listing is gone, check physical editions

A delisted Store page does not tell you whether the game had a disc release. Check the exact title and edition for a physical PS4 or PS5 copy, then confirm that your console can use that disc and that a seller actually has it in stock. PlayStation’s disc-game instructions require a compatible disc drive; the disc must remain inserted while playing.

A PS5 with a compatible disc drive can play PS5 game discs and the overwhelming majority of PS4 game discs, subject to compatibility exceptions. A disc copy can still require updates or rely on online services for some features.

PS5 Digital Edition

A PS4 game disc cannot be used on a PS5 Digital Edition. Do not buy a disc edition unless your console has a compatible drive. If you have a PS5 model that supports an attachable drive, verify compatibility for that exact model before buying either the drive or the game.

PlayStation describes the PS5 as compatible with the “overwhelming majority” of PS4 games, but lists exceptions and warns of possible unexpected behavior. Its UK support page also refers to “4,000+” playable PS4 games; that is PlayStation’s wording on an undated page accessed October 7, 2026, not a guarantee about every title. Check the exact game against PlayStation’s PS5 backward-compatibility information before buying a PS4 disc.

Consider a voucher only if it is valid for your account

A voucher is an option only if it is for the exact game and edition, unused, and valid for your account’s region. PlayStation says voucher codes can be redeemed only once and must match the account region. Check those details before paying a seller; a code that does not match the account’s region will not solve a regional Store availability problem. See PlayStation’s voucher redemption guidance.

What delisting does—and does not—mean

A delisting means a new digital purchase may no longer be available from that Store listing. By itself, it does not prove that a game already purchased has become unplayable. However, do not treat the continued availability of downloads or online features as guaranteed indefinitely: those can depend on the game and its services.

Sony’s explicit statement that previously purchased content will remain downloadable for the “foreseeable future” concerns PS3 and PS Vita Store closures, not a general promise about PS5 games. Its July 1, 2026 notice describes staged PS3 closures in some markets during 2026 and PS3 and PS Vita closures in other countries in July 2027; it also conditions continued play on each game’s existing online features and service availability. Does the 2028 disc-production announcement help?

Sony announced that physical-disc production for new PlayStation releases will end starting January 2028, and says the transition does not affect games already released or scheduled before then in disc format. As Sid Shuman, Senior Director of Sony Interactive Entertainment Content Communications, wrote on July 1, 2026: “This transition has no impact on games that already released, or will be releasing, prior to January 2028 in disc format.” This is about the production transition for new releases; it does not establish that a particular delisted game had a disc edition, will be reprinted, or remains available from retailers.
