If a Nintendo Switch game’s release was delayed, check the revised date and the preorder’s current status. Nintendo’s normal eShop cancellation option is available while the release is at least seven days away and before Nintendo has processed payment or preloaded the software. On the Switch, open Nintendo eShop, go to your account’s Your Pre-Orders list, and choose Cancel. You can also cancel from Nintendo Account purchase history in a browser.
A delay does not, under the cited U.S. Nintendo guidance, create an automatic refund entitlement. If the cancel control is missing, Nintendo directs customers to contact Support; approval of a refund is not guaranteed.

First identify the transaction you are cancelling
This procedure applies to a digital preorder made through Nintendo Switch eShop. It does not describe a physical game or a Nintendo Store physical pre-purchase.
eShop digital preorder
An eShop preorder is a digital purchase scheduled for later release. Nintendo says payment is taken no sooner than seven days before the game’s release date, and preloading follows payment. Until that processing point, the order can normally be cancelled from the account that placed it. Physical Nintendo Store pre-purchase
Nintendo describes physical Nintendo Store pre-purchases separately: they are charged immediately and require contacting Nintendo Support to cancel. The digital eShop steps below will not remove a physical order. Nintendo’s transaction overview explains the distinction: Nintendo eShop and Nintendo Store purchase information.
The cutoff that determines whether self-service cancellation works
Nintendo’s U.S. FAQ states that a preorder can be cancelled before payment is processed and the game is preloaded, “up to 7 days before the game’s release date.” It also says the full purchase amount is charged no sooner than seven days before release. Read the current date and order status shown in Nintendo eShop or Nintendo Account rather than relying on the original announcement date.
When a publisher moves a release, the revised date can move the seven-day window as well. That does not guarantee that Nintendo will restore a cancel option: the account status is controlling. If payment has already been processed or preloading has started, ordinary self-service cancellation may be closed even if the original date changed.

Cancel the preorder on a Nintendo Switch
Use the user profile that placed the order. A different Switch user, even on the same console, may not see the preorder.

- From the HOME Menu, open Nintendo eShop.
- Select the user who placed the preorder.
- Select the user icon in the upper-right corner to open Account Information.
- Scroll to Your Pre-Orders.
- Find the delayed game and select Cancel beside it.
- If identity authentication is enabled, re-enter the requested password or PIN.
- Complete the confirmation shown on screen, then check the preorder list again to verify that the game is no longer pending.

Cancel from a web browser
A browser is useful if the console is unavailable or if you want to inspect the account’s purchase history in a larger view.
- Go to
accounts.nintendo.comand sign in with the Nintendo Account that placed the preorder. - Select Purchase History.
- In the Pre-orders section, select View pre-orders.
- Locate the delayed game and select Cancel.
- Follow any authentication or confirmation prompt and return to the preorder list to confirm the status.

What the delay changes—and what it does not
The revised date is the date that matters operationally
A postponement can move the expected charging and preload period because Nintendo ties those events to the release date. If the new date is again outside the seven-day window and payment has not been processed, check the preorder page for a newly available Cancel control.

A delay is not an automatic refund promise
The cited U.S. Nintendo pages explain when a preorder can be cancelled and how to contact Support, but they do not promise an automatic refund solely because a game was delayed. Do not assume that an announced postponement, by itself, reverses a completed charge.
Use the account record rather than a publisher announcement
Release announcements can show a date before Nintendo updates the order record. The practical test is whether Nintendo Account or eShop shows the revised release date, whether payment is marked processed, and whether preload has begun. Save a screenshot or note of those details if you need to contact Support.
When the Cancel button is missing
Nintendo’s cancellation article says that customers unable to cancel a preorder should contact Nintendo for assistance. A missing control can mean that the seven-day charging period has started, payment has been processed, preload has begun, or that you are viewing a different account from the one used for the order.

- Wrong Nintendo Account: Sign out and back in with the account shown in the original purchase confirmation. The cancellation belongs to that account, not merely to the console.
- Release-date boundary: Compare the current release date with today’s date. The self-service window is tied to the seven-day rule and to payment/preload status.
- Payment or preload: Look for a processed transaction or a download already present on the console. Either event can close ordinary cancellation.
- Different transaction type: Confirm that the order is a digital eShop preorder, not a physical Nintendo Store pre-purchase.
- Authentication issue: Complete the requested password or PIN check; an interrupted identity check can prevent the action from finishing.
If the button remains unavailable, use Nintendo Support and describe the order precisely. Nintendo’s documented escalation route is in its cancellation article: contact Nintendo for preorder assistance.

What to do if Nintendo already charged you
Once payment has been processed, the normal online cancellation path may no longer be available. Preloading can also indicate that the digital delivery process has begun. Do not delete the game or remove the account in an attempt to reverse the transaction; those actions do not substitute for a cancellation or refund decision.
Contact Nintendo Support and ask what remedy is available for your specific order. Include:
- The Nintendo Account email or account identifier used for the preorder.
- The exact game title and edition.
- The original announced release date and the revised release date.
- The date and amount of any charge shown in your transaction history.
- Whether the game has been preloaded, partially downloaded, or launched.
- The order number or purchase confirmation, if available.
Keep the wording factual. Nintendo’s U.S. support material documents assistance when cancellation fails, but it does not state that Support must refund every delayed game after payment.

United Kingdom
Nintendo UK describes a voluntary right to cancel software preorders up to seven days before release. It separately describes a statutory 14-day cancellation right that can end earlier for digital content once performance begins, when the customer has expressly consented and acknowledged that effect. Read the UK explanations directly: Nintendo UK voluntary preorder cancellation guidance and Nintendo UK eShop preorder and preload FAQ.
Those legal details are UK-specific. If your Nintendo Account is registered elsewhere, consult the consumer rules and Nintendo terms that apply in your country; do not assume the UK statutory period or terminology applies internationally.

Prepare for Support efficiently
Support can investigate faster when the account and timeline are clear. Before opening a case, write down the original release date, every revised date you were given, the date you checked the preorder, and the exact labels shown beside the order. Note whether the console began downloading data and whether a payment appears in purchase history.
