The cleanest way to save a frame from a GTA VI trailer is to pause the official video at the highest available quality, hide the playback controls, and make a native digital capture. On PS5, the DualSense Create button saves a screenshot to Media Gallery; for frame-by-frame control, an HDMI 2.1 capture card can record a short segment and export a still. Keep the untouched file, edit a duplicate, and credit Rockstar Games when you share it.
Rockstar’s official GTA VI media page lists Trailer 2 and invites visitors to “Download and share trailers, imagery, and more.” That invitation supports ordinary fan sharing, but it is not a complete commercial license. Check Rockstar’s current terms before using a frame in a monetized video, advertisement, merchandise, or other commercial project.

A clean screenshot contains only the trailer image: no play button, timeline, cursor, browser chrome, notification, or camera glare. It should also preserve as much of the source resolution and dynamic range as practical. A native digital capture is preferable to photographing a television or monitor because a camera records reflections, moiré patterns, perspective distortion, and the display’s pixel grid.
Start with the official GTA VI media page rather than a re-upload. Select the trailer you want, such as Trailer 2, and use the highest playback quality available. Re-uploads may be compressed, cropped, or surrounded by additional interface elements, making the resulting frame softer and harder to identify.

How do I capture a frame without player controls?
Use this workflow for a quick, high-quality still from a computer, phone, or console player:
- Open the official source. Go to Rockstar’s GTA VI media page and select the required trailer.
- Choose the highest available quality. Let the video buffer before seeking so the player does not fall back to a lower-resolution stream.
- Pause on the target frame. Scrub close to the moment, then use the player’s pause control for the final position.
- Clear the interface. Move the pointer away from the video and wait until the timeline, play icon, and other controls fade. If the controls remain, click outside the player or wait a few seconds before capturing.
- Capture digitally. Use the operating system or console screenshot function instead of photographing the display.
- Protect the source file. Save the native capture unchanged, then make a separate copy for cropping, resizing, color conversion, or social-media compression.
For a frame that contains small text, distant faces, or fine environmental detail, avoid zooming the browser before capture unless the zoom produces a true higher-resolution source. Enlarging a compressed stream only makes the pixels larger; it does not restore detail.

How do I take a GTA VI trailer screenshot on PS5?
On PS5, the DualSense Create button opens the capture menu. The resulting image appears in Media Gallery, where you can review, edit, share, or copy it to a USB drive.
PS5 capture steps
- Open the official trailer on the PS5 and set the player to its highest available quality.
- Pause at the frame you want. Move through the trailer in small increments if the player allows precise seeking.
- Move the on-screen pointer away and wait for all playback controls to disappear.
- Press the Create button on the DualSense controller.
- Choose the screenshot capture command. The PS5 saves the still to its capture storage.
- Press the Create button again or return to the home screen and open Media Gallery.
- Select the image to inspect it at full size. From Media Gallery you can edit, share, or copy the file to a USB drive.
PlayStation also provides capture-format and resolution settings. Review those options before a long capture session so the console is not using a lower-quality format than you expect. Menu labels can change with system software updates, but the relevant controls are under the PS5 capture settings reached from Settings and Captures and Broadcasts.
How should I move a PS5 capture to another device?
For one or two images, Media Gallery’s sharing options may be sufficient. For a batch of frames or an archival copy, choose the USB-copy option in Media Gallery and then transfer the files from the drive without opening and resaving them in an image editor. Keep the original filename or add a documented version name after you have made a backup.
When is an HDMI capture card better than a screenshot?
An HDMI capture card is useful when you need frame-accurate stepping, repeatable recording, or control over the exported image format. It adds setup time and another device, so it is unnecessary for a single casual frame when a native console screenshot already looks correct.
One suitable example is the Elgato 4K X. Its published specifications include HDMI 2.1 input and output, HDR10 capture, USB 3.2 Gen 2 connectivity, and support for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S sources. Verify current specifications, compatibility, price, and regional availability before buying because those details can change.

What equipment does the HDMI method require?
- The playback device running the trailer, such as a PS5, Xbox Series console, or compatible computer.
- An HDMI capture card with an input that matches the source’s signal. HDMI 2.1 support matters if you need the console’s high-bandwidth modes.
- A passthrough display connected to the capture card’s HDMI output, so you can play the trailer normally while the computer receives the feed.
- A USB connection from the capture card to the recording computer. The 4K X specification lists USB 3.2 Gen 2.
- Capture software capable of recording a short clip, stepping through it, and exporting a still as PNG or high-quality JPEG.
How do I record and export a clean frame through HDMI?
- Connect the console or other playback device to the capture card’s HDMI input.
- Connect the card’s HDMI passthrough output to the display you will watch.
- Connect the card to the computer over USB and open the capture application.
- Confirm that the preview shows the expected resolution, frame rate, and color mode before recording.
- Play the trailer and record a short segment that includes the desired moment. Recording only a short section makes later frame selection easier and avoids filling storage unnecessarily.
- Stop recording and step through the clip one frame at a time in the capture software or a video editor.
- Export the selected frame as a PNG for archival quality or as a high-quality JPEG when a service imposes a smaller file limit.
- Retain the original recording as the master. Treat the exported still as a working copy that can be cropped or resized for publication.
Protected or encrypted HDMI output may not be capturable. A black preview, missing signal, or audio-only result can indicate a content-protection restriction rather than a defective card. Check the source and capture card’s restrictions first; do not attempt to bypass protection. If the official media page offers a downloadable version, use that source instead.
Which capture method should I choose?
The right method depends on whether you value speed, exact frame control, or a repeatable production workflow.
| Method | Image quality | Setup time | Control | Best use |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| PS5 Create-button screenshot | Native console capture, subject to the PS5’s selected capture settings | Very low; one button and Media Gallery | Fast single-frame capture; limited frame-by-frame review | Saving a few frames directly from a PS5 |
| Computer or browser screenshot | Depends on the player stream and operating-system capture | Low | Convenient, but browser and player overlays must be cleared | Quick sharing from an official web player |
| HDMI capture card | Can preserve high-resolution and HDR10 signals when the hardware and source support them | Highest; wiring, software, and storage are required | Frame stepping, repeatable recording, and format conversion | Precise still selection or a larger capture session |
| Photograph of a display | Usually reduced by glare, reflections, moiré, and camera perspective | Low equipment requirement | Little control over source pixels | Only when no digital capture path is available |
For most readers, start with a native PS5 or computer capture. Move to HDMI only when the exact frame matters, the player’s screenshot command is unavailable, or you need a recorded source from which to extract many stills.

Use a two-file workflow: an untouched master and a sharing copy. The master is your evidence of what was captured and gives you a clean starting point if a platform later recompresses, crops, or changes color.
Master-file checklist
- Keep the original pixel dimensions and file format produced by the console or capture software.
- Do not overwrite the master when cropping, adding text, converting color, or reducing dimensions.
- Back up the master before transferring it between devices.
- Record the trailer name and time position in the filename or accompanying notes.
A practical filename is gta6-trailer2-00m42s.png. Use the trailer identifier and timestamp consistently if you capture several frames; this makes it possible to locate the same moment again without relying on a vague filename such as “Screenshot 2026-10-25.”
PNG or JPEG?
Choose PNG when you want a lossless archival still or when the image contains sharp text and interface-like detail. Use a high-quality JPEG for services that reject large PNG files or impose strict upload limits. Export the JPEG from the untouched master rather than repeatedly opening and saving an already compressed copy.
Crop only what is necessary. Removing black letterbox bars or unused browser space can make the frame easier to view, but do not crop away context that identifies the scene or trailer. Resize a duplicate for each platform instead of changing the master’s dimensions.

How do I share a GTA VI trailer screenshot responsibly?
Include a concise credit with the image, such as “Frame from Rockstar Games’ GTA VI trailer.” Link your post to Rockstar’s official GTA VI media page when the platform allows links, so viewers can find the complete trailer and the original source.
Rockstar’s “download and share” invitation is clear about sharing trailers, imagery, and more, but it does not spell out every possible commercial use in the invitation itself. Ordinary fan posts and editorial discussion are different from monetized videos, paid advertising, merchandise, client work, or a product sold with the image. Before commercial reuse, read the current Rockstar terms that apply to the media and obtain any permission required for your use.
What should I remove before publishing?
- Playback controls, cursor, browser tabs, notifications, and chat overlays.
- Accidental personal information visible in a desktop notification or account panel.
- Unrelated logos or watermarks introduced by a re-uploaded player.
- Editing layers or annotations that could be mistaken for part of the official frame.
Keep a note of which trailer and time position produced the image. That record helps you answer questions about authenticity without presenting an edited sharing copy as though it were the untouched capture.

The screenshot includes the timeline or play icon
Pause first, move the pointer outside the video, and wait for the controls to fade. If the player keeps showing them, click a neutral area of the page, allow the video to remain paused for several seconds, and capture again. On a console, return to the trailer view rather than capturing the Create menu itself.

The frame looks soft or blocky
Confirm that the trailer is using its highest available quality and that it has finished buffering. A screenshot cannot recover detail that was removed by a low-resolution stream or a heavily compressed re-upload. Try the official media page, then capture again at the same timestamp.
The colors look washed out or too dark
HDR playback and SDR editing can produce different appearances. If your capture hardware supports HDR10, preserve the original capture and inspect it in software that understands the color mode before converting a sharing copy. Do not discard the master merely because one social platform displays the converted copy differently.
The HDMI preview is black
Check every HDMI connection, select the correct input in the capture software, and verify that the source resolution is supported. If the display works but the capture preview remains black, protected or encrypted output may be blocking capture. Use an officially downloadable trailer or a native screenshot path instead of trying to defeat the protection.

The PS5 capture is not where I expected
Open Media Gallery and sort or filter the captures by recent items. If the image is still missing, review the PS5 capture settings and confirm that the Create-button command completed before leaving the trailer. Copy important files to USB as soon as you have verified them.

Can I capture and share a frame from any GTA VI trailer?
The process works for trailers available through Rockstar’s official GTA VI media page, including Trailer 2 listed there. The exact resolution, frame rate, HDR behavior, and download options can differ by trailer, device, and playback method, so check the player’s current quality options instead of assuming every trailer provides identical source data.
When a trailer is offered as a downloadable file, that file can provide a more consistent source than a browser stream. Preserve the downloaded original, pause it in a player that allows accurate seeking, and export the still from a duplicate or short working clip.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is it okay to post a GTA VI trailer screenshot on social media?
Rockstar’s official media page explicitly invites visitors to download and share trailers, imagery, and more, which supports ordinary fan sharing. Add a Rockstar Games credit and identify the trailer, but review the current terms before placing the frame in a monetized post, advertisement, merchandise design, or paid client work.
Why does my capture card show a black screen while the console still works?
An encrypted or protected HDMI signal can allow the television to display the video while preventing the capture device from receiving it. Check the source and card documentation, then use the official downloadable trailer or the console’s own screenshot function rather than attempting to bypass the restriction.
Should I save the screenshot as PNG or JPEG for a website?
Keep a PNG or other untouched native file as your archival master whenever possible. Create a high-quality JPEG only for a site or service that requires a smaller upload, and export it directly from the master so repeated compression does not accumulate.
Can I sell a poster or video that uses a frame from the trailer?
A permission to download and share media is not automatically a commercial license. Commercial or monetized uses should be checked against Rockstar’s current legal terms, and you may need additional permission before selling a product or using the frame in paid promotion.
