The Create menu also includes Save Recent Gameplay and Start New Recording. Those are video-capture options rather than ways to take a still screenshot. Sony’s capture settings also include format and resolution options, as well as audio options for captures; check the settings available on your console if you want to change how captures are made.

- Take Screenshot: saves a still image for a photo, game moment, or other single frame.
- Save Recent Gameplay: saves recent gameplay as a video clip.
- Start New Recording: begins a new video recording.
If you only need an image, use Take Screenshot rather than saving or starting a recording. The other Create menu options are useful when the moment is better communicated as moving footage.

Where are my PS5 screenshots?
Open Media Gallery from the games home to view and manage screenshots and video clips saved on the console. PlayStation Support describes Media Gallery as the place to view and manage captures.
For a newly made capture, look for the Recently created card. PlayStation Support says that card can show up to 15 recent captures. If the image is not among the items shown there, open Media Gallery itself and browse the library rather than assuming the recent card is the complete collection.
What you can do from Media Gallery
- Open an image to inspect it and access its editing options.
- Select a capture to share it.
- Open More for the option to copy a capture to USB storage.
- View supported images and videos on a connected USB drive from the USB tab, when that tab is available.
Media Gallery is the main place to manage the screenshot after capture, whether you plan to edit it, send it, or keep a copy elsewhere.
How do I edit a screenshot on PS5?
For a quick adjustment, open the screenshot in Media Gallery and select Edit. The built-in tools include cropping, rotating, framing, and adding text, which are enough for basic composition and annotation without moving the image to another device.
- Open Media Gallery.
- Select the screenshot you want to change.
- Choose Edit.
- Use the available tools to crop, rotate, add a frame, or place text.
- Review the result before sharing or exporting it.
Which edit should I use?
- Crop when the subject is too small in the original image or unnecessary edges distract from it.
- Rotate when the image needs a different orientation.
- Frame when you want to give the image a more finished presentation using the console’s built-in tool.
- Text when a short label or caption helps explain what the viewer is seeing.
These are straightforward, on-console edits. The available tools are not described as a full desktop-style image-editing suite, so use them for quick presentation changes rather than assuming they provide every kind of advanced retouching or layout control.

Is Share Factory Studio better for editing PS5 screenshots?
Share Factory Studio is the better fit when you want to build a more elaborate image project rather than make a quick adjustment to one screenshot. Sony describes its photo editor as supporting montages with text, filters, and stickers; the app also includes Bits and a video editor, and can add effects and music to projects.
Recommended Free Tools
| Option | Best for | Tools described by PlayStation |
|---|---|---|
| Media Gallery’s built-in Edit | Quick adjustments to an individual screenshot | Crop, rotate, frame, and add text |
| Share Factory Studio | More elaborate image projects and montages | Text, filters, stickers, effects, and music; also includes Bits and a video editor |
To check whether Share Factory Studio is available on your console, look for its current listing in the on-console PlayStation Store. Its availability or installation state may depend on the console, so confirm the current app listing rather than relying on an assumption that it is already installed.
If all you need is to crop an image or add a short caption, starting in Media Gallery is simpler. If you want to combine creative elements into a montage, the extra tools in Share Factory Studio are more appropriate.
How do I share PS5 screenshots?
Select a capture in Media Gallery, choose Share, then select a recipient or supported destination and send it. This route is for delivering the image through a sharing option available on the console, rather than making a separate copy on removable storage.
- Open Media Gallery and select the screenshot.
- Choose Share.
- Select the recipient or destination offered for the share.
- Review the selection and send it.
The recipient and destination choices shown can depend on what is available on your console. If you do not see the option you expected, use one of the destinations currently offered or export the image to USB storage if you need a local copy on another device.

PlayStation Support’s sharing guidance specifies that up to four screenshots can be included in one share. Video sharing is different: it is limited to one clip at a time, and a video clip shared with a group is limited to three minutes. Those are the limits stated in the support instructions accessed in 2026; sharing options and limits may change with region or software updates.
How do I copy a PS5 screenshot to a USB drive?
To keep a local copy outside the console, connect compatible USB storage, select the capture in Media Gallery, and use More → Copy to USB Drive. USB export is optional; it is useful when you want to move the capture to another device instead of sending it through a sharing destination.
- Connect a compatible USB storage device to the PS5.
- Open Media Gallery and select the screenshot.
- Open More.
- Choose Copy to USB Drive.
A connected drive can also expose a USB tab in Media Gallery for viewing supported images and videos. The USB information available here does not identify a specific drive model or capacity, nor does it establish a complete compatibility list or formatting requirements. Check current PS5 compatibility and formatting requirements before buying or preparing a drive.
Should I share a screenshot or export it to USB?
Choose based on where the image needs to go: use Share when you want to send it to a recipient or supported destination, and use USB copying when you want a local copy on another device.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches| Need | Use | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Send a screenshot to someone | Share in Media Gallery | Starts a share to a recipient or destination offered on the console |
| Keep a copy on removable storage | More → Copy to USB Drive | Creates a copy on connected USB storage for use outside the console |
| Make a quick change before sending | Edit in Media Gallery | Provides basic framing, rotation, and text tools on the console |
| Build a more elaborate montage | Share Factory Studio | Offers additional creative tools such as filters and stickers |
What should I do if the workflow looks different?
Use the labels and options currently shown on your PS5. PlayStation’s support instructions are the basis for the menu names and sharing limits above, but available options may vary with region or software changes.
