The most dependable way to show a Meta Quest 3 on a TV is to cast the headset to the Meta Horizon mobile app, then mirror the phone to the television. For Windows or Mac, use Meta’s browser casting page at oculus.com/casting. Direct casting to a Chromecast or Google Cast television may work, but Meta does not guarantee compatibility with every model.
Choose the right casting method
| Destination | Recommended route | Important limitation |
|---|---|---|
| iPhone or iPad | Quest 3 → Meta Horizon app | Best first step; no extra hardware required. |
| AirPlay TV or Apple TV | Quest 3 → iPhone/iPad → AirPlay | This is an indirect route, not direct Quest-to-Apple-TV casting. |
| Android or Google TV | Quest 3 → Meta Horizon app → phone Cast or Screen Cast | Usually more dependable than direct TV discovery. |
| Roku TV | Quest 3 → phone → Roku screen mirroring | Meta support recommends using a smartphone intermediary rather than relying on direct casting. |
| Windows PC or Mac | Quest 3 → browser at oculus.com/casting | The browser may take several minutes to show the stream. |
| TV connected to a computer | Quest 3 → browser → computer HDMI output | Adds a cable, but separates the Quest casting problem from the TV connection. |
| Chromecast or Google Cast TV | Try direct Quest casting if the device appears | Meta says direct Chromecast and TV casting is not fully supported on every device. |
What casting does—and does not do
Casting sends the Quest 3 wearer’s view to another screen. Viewers can generally see the headset interface and the active app where that app permits capture. The TV or computer is a viewing destination; it does not become a second interactive VR display.

There are several different technologies that are easy to confuse:
Recommended Free Tools
- Quest casting: Sends the headset’s view over the network.
- Screen mirroring: Relays the phone or computer’s display to a TV.
- Meta Quest Link or Air Link: Connects the headset to a PC for PC VR. It is not required merely to view a normal Quest cast.
- Recording or livestreaming: A separate activity that can use more battery and may affect performance.
Meta support warns that casting can increase battery use or affect in-app performance, and that casting while recording may cause problems. See the reported guidance from Meta community support.

What you need before starting
- The Quest 3 is powered on and connected to Wi-Fi.
- The phone, tablet, computer, TV, Chromecast, or Google TV Streamer is on the same local network.
- The Meta Horizon app is installed and the headset is paired with it.
- The app or browser is signed in to the same Meta account associated with the headset.
- The network is not a guest, hotel, airport, corporate, captive-portal, or otherwise isolated network.
- The Quest and receiving device are reasonably close to the Wi-Fi router.
Mesh and managed networks can still block device discovery even when devices appear to use the same Wi-Fi name. Meta support specifically identifies same-network and same-account checks as important troubleshooting steps.
Method 1: Cast Quest 3 to the Meta Horizon mobile app
This is the recommended starting point for most TV owners, especially Roku and Apple TV users.
- Install and open the Meta Horizon app on an iPhone, iPad, or Android device.
- Sign in with the Meta account paired with the Quest 3.
- Turn on the headset and keep it nearby.
- Put on the headset and open Quick Settings by selecting the clock area or system menu.
- Select Cast.
- Choose the phone or tablet running the Meta Horizon app.
- Confirm the connection if the headset displays a confirmation prompt.
- Check the phone to verify that the live headset view appears.
Quest software updates can move controls or change labels. Treat the current Quick Settings and Cast labels as the authoritative interface for your installed Horizon OS version.
Method 2: Show the phone cast on a TV
iPhone or iPad to an AirPlay TV or Apple TV
- Start casting the Quest 3 to the Meta Horizon app.
- Put the iPhone or iPad and the AirPlay-compatible TV or Apple TV on the same Wi-Fi network.
- Open Control Center on the iPhone or iPad.
- Select Screen Mirroring.
- Choose the TV or Apple TV.
- Return to the Meta Horizon app.
The phone is the intermediary. Meta Quest does not provide a guaranteed native direct AirPlay path to Apple TV, so do not expect Apple TV to appear as a normal Quest casting destination.
Android phone to Google Cast, Miracast, or Smart View
- Start the Quest-to-Meta-Horizon-app cast.
- Confirm that the phone and TV or streaming receiver use the same Wi-Fi network.
- Open the phone’s Cast, Screen Cast, Smart View, or equivalent manufacturer feature.
- Select the television or receiver.
Android menu names vary by manufacturer. A Google Pixel, Samsung Galaxy, Motorola, OnePlus, and other Android phones may expose different controls or support different mirroring standards.
Why the phone route is usually better for TVs
It avoids depending on the TV appearing in the Quest casting menu, works with more television ecosystems, and turns the compatibility question into a phone-to-TV mirroring question. The trade-off is an additional wireless hop, which can introduce more delay, compression, or disconnections. The phone must also stay awake and may use significant battery.

Method 3: Cast Quest 3 to a Windows PC or Mac
- Open a current desktop browser on the computer.
- Go to https://www.oculus.com/casting.
- Sign in with the same Meta account used by the Quest 3.
- In the headset, open Quick Settings.
- Select Cast.
- Choose Computer or the browser/web destination shown by the current interface.
- Confirm the cast if prompted.
- Leave the browser tab open and wait for the headset view to appear.
The cast may not appear immediately. Meta community support advises waiting up to about five minutes before restarting the process. If the page continues spinning, reload it, try another current browser, and temporarily remove VPN or firewall-related network restrictions.

A computer does not need to run Quest Link simply to receive a browser cast.
Method 4: Try casting directly to a Chromecast or Google Cast TV
- Turn on the TV or streaming device.
- Connect the Quest 3 and receiver to the same uncomplicated home Wi-Fi network.
- Open Quick Settings → Cast in the headset.
- Select the TV, Chromecast, or Google TV receiver if it appears.
- Confirm the connection.
Compatibility warning: A television having “Chromecast built in” does not guarantee that Quest 3 direct casting will work. Meta support says direct Chromecast and TV casting is not fully supported and may fail with some devices or television models; Meta does not publish a complete compatibility list. Meta’s support discussion also recommends casting to a smartphone first for Roku televisions.
A Google TV Streamer can be a useful Google Cast receiver for phone or computer relaying, but buying one is not a guaranteed fix for direct Quest-to-TV casting. Likewise, do not buy an Apple TV 4K solely on the assumption that it will receive a direct Quest cast; use the iPhone/iPad and AirPlay workflow instead.
Method 5: Put the computer cast on a TV
If Quest casting works in the browser but direct TV casting does not, connect the computer to the TV with HDMI. This is often easier to diagnose because the two links are independent:

- Maximize or share the casting browser window as needed.
Alternatively, Chrome can cast a browser tab or computer screen to a compatible Chromecast, Google TV Streamer, Chromecast Ultra, or Google Cast-enabled TV. Google notes that casting a Chrome tab sends tab audio to the TV, while full-screen computer casting may leave audio on the computer. See Google’s Chrome casting documentation.

Quest Link and Air Link are different
Quest Link uses a USB connection to run PC VR content, while Air Link uses a wireless PC VR connection. Neither is the ordinary solution for displaying native Quest content on a TV or monitor. Use browser casting when you want to show what the headset is doing. If you are already playing PC VR through Air Link, it may be more practical to show the PC’s own game window on the TV rather than maintain a separate headset cast.
Meta community support reports that starting Air Link can disrupt or cancel some browser-casting sessions. Start the phone or browser cast before launching demanding software, and avoid switching to Air Link during the cast. If PC VR is the priority, stop the Quest cast and mirror the PC display instead.
Troubleshooting by symptom
The TV does not appear in the Quest menu
- Confirm that the Quest and TV or receiver are on the same Wi-Fi network.
- Leave any guest-network or client-isolation mode.
- Restart the headset, TV or streamer, and router.
- Verify that the TV supports Google Cast rather than only a different generic screen-sharing feature.
- Try Quest → Meta Horizon app first.
- For Roku or Apple TV, use phone casting followed by phone mirroring.
- Try the browser method on a computer.
Direct TV discovery can fail even when the TV advertises Chromecast compatibility because Meta does not guarantee every direct Quest casting combination.

The phone is not listed
- Open the Meta Horizon app and sign in to the headset’s paired account.
- Confirm that the headset and phone are on the same local network.
- Disable VPN or network privacy features temporarily for testing.
- Move both devices closer to the router.
- Restart the app, headset, and router.
- Test on a normal home network rather than a guest or hotel network.
The browser page spins indefinitely
- Check that the browser and headset use the same Meta account.
- Start casting before opening a demanding app.
- Wait several minutes—up to about five minutes—before restarting.
- Reload the casting page or test another current browser.
- Temporarily disable VPNs and unusually restrictive firewall rules.
- Power-cycle the Quest 3 and try again.
There is no sound
Audio behavior depends on the route. Check the phone and TV volume, confirm that screen mirroring is fully connected, and disconnect Bluetooth headphones for a test. Some apps may suppress audio or restrict capture. When relaying through Chrome, a tab cast and a full-screen computer cast can place audio on different devices. Test with a system-menu sound or an unrestricted app before starting a group session.
The picture is delayed or choppy
- Use a strong 5-GHz or 6-GHz Wi-Fi connection where possible.
- Connect the receiving computer to Ethernet.
- Move the Quest and receiver closer to the router.
- Pause downloads, cloud backups, and other high-bandwidth activity.
- Disable a VPN temporarily.
- Prefer Quest → PC browser over the two-hop Quest → phone → TV route when latency matters.
- Stop simultaneous recording if performance worsens.
Wireless casting is intended for viewing and sharing, not as a low-latency replacement for a wired video output.
The image is black or an app is missing
Some apps and protected video services can restrict capture or behave differently while casting. First test the Quest home interface and another ordinary app. Do not assume that every application will display its content on the receiving device.

Casting stops when Air Link starts
Air Link and casting are separate streaming paths that can interfere with one another. Start casting first if you need it, avoid switching to Air Link mid-session, or stop Air Link and restart the cast. For PC VR, show the PC’s own output on the TV instead.
It works on one network but not another
The failing network may isolate wireless clients or block local discovery. Guest, hotel, airport, tethered, corporate, and some mesh configurations can cause this. Test the Quest and receiver on the same ordinary home network, or ask the network administrator whether client isolation is enabled.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to stop casting
- Open the headset’s Quick Settings or system menu.
- Select Cast.
- Choose Stop Casting or end the active cast session.
- If you used a phone-to-TV relay, stop the phone’s Screen Mirroring or Cast session separately.
Stopping the Quest cast does not necessarily stop the second phone-to-TV mirroring connection.
Can you connect Quest 3 directly to a TV with HDMI?
Do not treat the Quest 3 USB-C port as a conventional HDMI video output. The reviewed Meta material does not document a normal consumer HDMI-out path for Quest 3, so a passive USB-C-to-HDMI cable should not be recommended as a solution. Use wireless casting, browser casting, or HDMI from a receiving computer instead.
Best fallback order
- Cast to the Meta Horizon mobile app.
- If the audience is watching TV, mirror the phone to AirPlay, Google Cast, Miracast, Smart View, or the TV maker’s supported system.
- Cast to oculus.com/casting on a computer.
- Connect that computer to the TV by HDMI, or relay the Chrome tab to a compatible Google Cast receiver.
- Try a different uncomplicated home network if discovery still fails.
For a living-room audience, choose the phone route first. For recording, presenting, troubleshooting, or streaming on a computer, choose browser casting. Direct Chromecast or smart-TV casting is worth trying when the receiver appears, but it should be treated as model-dependent rather than guaranteed.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can Quest 3 cast directly to Roku?
It may not appear or work reliably as a direct destination. Meta support recommends casting the Quest 3 to a smartphone first, then using the phone’s supported Roku screen-mirroring method.

Can Quest 3 cast directly to Apple TV?
Do not rely on direct Quest-to-Apple-TV casting. Cast to the Meta Horizon app on an iPhone or iPad, then use Control Center → Screen Mirroring to send that device to Apple TV.
Do Quest 3 and the TV need to be on the same Wi-Fi?
Yes, the Quest and receiving device should normally use the same local network. Guest, hotel, corporate, captive-portal, or isolated mesh networks can block discovery.
Does my PC need Quest Link to receive a cast?
No. Use a current browser at oculus.com/casting. Quest Link and Air Link are PC VR connection methods, not prerequisites for ordinary browser casting.
Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?

Do not assume so. The Quest 3 USB-C port is not documented here as a conventional HDMI video output, so use wireless casting or HDMI from a receiving computer.
Can I cast while using PC VR?
Air Link can disrupt some casting sessions. If PC VR is the goal, showing the computer’s own output on the TV is usually simpler than maintaining a separate Quest cast.
Can I cast and record at the same time?
You can encounter increased battery use, performance degradation, or other problems. Meta support warns that casting and recording together may affect reliability.
Can I cast to a browser without installing software?
Yes. Open Meta’s casting page at oculus.com/casting, sign in with the headset’s Meta account, and select the computer destination from the Quest Cast menu.
