To change your camera view in Minecraft, press F5 on a keyboard to cycle between first person, third person behind your character, and third person facing your character. In Bedrock, you can also press up on the controller D-pad or choose a perspective in Settings. If those controls stop working, a Bedrock camera command may be overriding them.
Cycle camera views with a keyboard
- While playing, press F5.
- Press F5 again to cycle through First Person → Third Person Rear → Third Person Front → First Person.
The labels vary slightly between official guides: Minecraft Education calls the rear view “Third Person Rear” and the front-facing view “Third Person,” while Microsoft’s Bedrock camera documentation names the presets minecraft:first_person, minecraft:third_person, and minecraft:third_person_front. The views themselves are first person, behind the player, and facing the player. See the Minecraft Education keyboard and mouse controls and Microsoft’s Bedrock camera overview.

Change perspective with a controller or touchscreen
Controller in Bedrock
Press up on the controller D-pad to cycle the standard gameplay perspectives. If that input is unavailable or has been remapped, check the game’s control settings. Minecraft controls can be customized, and the available controls may differ by platform; the official Minecraft controls overview explains customization and resetting controls.
Touchscreen or menu selection
Open Settings and select the camera perspective you want. Look in the video or display settings if the option is not immediately visible. The exact submenu and wording can differ by device and edition, so there is not one universal menu path.
#1 Best Overall
- Minecraft is a game about placing blocks and going on adventures
- Explore randomly generated worlds and build amazing things from the simplest of homes to the grandest of castles
- Play in creative mode with unlimited resources or mine deep into the world in survival mode, crafting weapons and armor to fend off the dangerous mobs
- Play on the go in handheld or tabletop modes
- Includes Super Mario Mash-Up, Natural Texture Pack, Biome Settlers Skin Pack, Battle & Beasts Skin Pack, Campfire Tales Skin Pack; Compatible with Nintendo Switch only
If F5 or the usual perspective control does not work
Check the key binding or control mapping
Minecraft lets players customize controls in its options. Check the current binding for perspective switching; if needed, restore the default controls from the options menu. Some keyboards or devices require a function-key modifier, but that depends on the hardware rather than being a universal Minecraft setting.
Clear an active Bedrock camera command
In Bedrock, a camera set with the /camera command can override the controls that normally change perspective, including the Settings selection. In a world where commands are available, run /camera @s clear to clear active camera changes. The game then returns to the perspective selected in options, and normal perspective switching works again. The camera command requires cheats; see Microsoft’s camera command reference.

You do not need a command for an ordinary perspective change: use F5, the Bedrock controller input, or Settings instead.
