You generally can’t choose a geographic game-server region in Roblox through a platform-wide player setting. Roblox matchmaking automatically selects an eligible server. Account location is a separate setting that Roblox detects automatically, while private-server controls determine who can join—not where the server is located.
What does “region” mean in Roblox?

How Roblox chooses a game server
Roblox describes matchmaking as an automatic process: it identifies eligible servers, scores them using signals that include player location and latency, then matches the player with the highest-scoring server. See Roblox Creator Hub’s Matchmaking documentation.
Roblox also says its edge data centers run game servers and that players are matched to a nearby data center and a suitable instance to minimize latency. This explains the platform’s approach; it is not a player-facing control for picking a location. Roblox’s infrastructure overview describes that system.
How to check your Roblox account location
- Open Roblox and go to Settings.
- Select Account Info.
- Look for the account location entry. Roblox says it detects this location automatically from device signals, including your IP address, and updates it over time. See Roblox Support: Account Location.
This setting is not a game-server selector. Roblox notes that a recent move can take time to appear and that VPN use can affect location accuracy. Its guidance does not say that using a VPN changes the game server you will join.

Can a private server let you pick a region?
Roblox’s private-server controls let an owner create or configure a server and manage who may join. The player support guide does not describe a geographic-region choice. Check the specific experience’s page and in-game menus for any joining options its creator provides; availability and controls can vary by experience. See Roblox Support: Private / VIP Servers FAQ.
Creators can customize matchmaking signal weights for places in their experiences, including the weight given to latency. Those are creator-side settings, not a region selector available to players. See Roblox Creator Hub: Customize your matchmaking configuration.

What to do if your connection feels laggy
- Check whether the experience itself offers a server browser or other joining options. Roblox does not document a platform-wide player setting for choosing a geographic region.
- Do not assume that rejoining, buying a private server, or changing account location will force a specific region; the cited Roblox documentation does not promise that result.
- Do not use a VPN as a region-switching fix. Roblox warns that VPN use can affect account-location accuracy and does not document it as a way to control game-server assignment.
