What the two FiveM banners control
FiveM uses two separate banner settings. They can point to the same image or to different images, depending on whether you want consistent branding or a different message during connection.

The names must be spelled exactly as shown. In particular, the connecting setting is banner_connecting, not a variation such as banner_connection or banner*connection. A ZAP-Hosting guide documents the typo that has appeared in copied instructions; using the wrong name creates a line that FiveM will not use.
Guides from Shockbyte, Nodecraft, ZAP-Hosting and SparkedHost all describe the same basic configuration: put the convars in the active configuration file, save it and restart the server.

Prepare an image that FiveM can reach
Use a direct image URL
Each value must be a URL that returns the image itself. It should open the image directly, rather than opening a web page containing an image, a gallery, a login screen or a download form. Copy the final image address into a new browser tab before editing your server. If the browser shows an HTML page, asks for authentication or cannot load the file, FiveM is unlikely to load it either.
The URL can use HTTPS or another publicly reachable address, but it must remain available to players outside your own computer or private network. A file stored only on your PC, a panel’s private file manager or a localhost address is not a usable banner source. Keep the complete URL, including the file extension when the host provides one, and avoid adding tracking parameters or surrounding text.
Image hosts and the Imgur caveat
Imgur is frequently mentioned in FiveM banner tutorials because it can provide image links. However, a Cfx.re forum report describes Imgur being blocked for some users. If an Imgur link works in your browser but not for players, move the image to another host that supplies a publicly reachable direct file URL. The important property is reachability, not the name of the host.
Check the link before changing the server
- Open the copied URL in a private or logged-out browser window.
- Confirm that the response displays the image itself and does not redirect to a sign-in or gallery page.
- Test both images separately if you plan to use different files for the details and connecting banners.
- Keep the URLs handy; you will paste them into
server.cfgexactly as tested.
Choose a practical banner size
There is no single confirmed official size requirement in the material available for this setting. The most commonly repeated figure is 1865 × 108 pixels, attributed to the original cfx.re community guidance and documented by MeteoFiveM. Another source gives 1865 × 250 pixels, while another says that no strict size applies. Treat 1865 × 108 as a useful starting canvas, not a mandatory FiveM validation rule.

Design the important text and logos away from the extreme edges so that differences in display area do not hide them. Keep the file readable at a wide, short aspect ratio, and check the result in both places where it will be displayed. These are presentation precautions; they do not replace a direct URL or correct convars.

Use the exact lines
Add one line for each banner. Replace the example URLs with the direct links you tested:

Search the file for banner_detail and banner_connecting before adding new entries. If a setting already exists, replace its URL rather than leaving several copies scattered through the file. Keeping one active line for each convar makes it clear which image you intend to use and avoids troubleshooting the wrong entry.
Where to edit the file
With a hosting control panel, open the server’s file manager and choose the configuration-file editor for server.cfg. Panel names differ, but the objective is the same: edit the file that the server actually starts with, not a downloaded copy on your computer. If you use txAdmin, its CFG Editor is one documented route for editing the configuration; ZAP-Hosting and SparkedHost both show panel-based workflows in their guides.
For a hosted FiveM instance, Godlike.Host provides FiveM servers and its own game panel for server management. It is not on Cfx.re’s list of authorized FiveM hosts (fivem.net, 10 Oct 2026).

- Stop the server if your panel requires it before editing. If the panel permits safe edits while it is running, still plan a restart after saving.
- Open the active
server.cfgin the panel or txAdmin CFG Editor. - Find existing banner lines, if any, and update them. Otherwise add the two
setslines in a clearly identifiable section. - Check spelling, quotation marks and the complete URL character by character.
- Save the file and verify that the panel reports a successful save.
Restart the FiveM server
Saving the file alone is not the final step. Restart the server so the updated settings are read. The restart procedure depends on your host: use its Stop/Start or Restart control, or restart through the administration interface you normally use. The guides from Shockbyte and SparkedHost explicitly include a restart after saving.
After the server is back online, inspect the server-list details view and begin a connection to check the two locations independently. A details banner can work while a connecting banner fails, because each convar has its own URL and can be affected by its own typo or unreachable image.
Troubleshoot a banner that is not showing
The line begins with #
This is the fastest check. Remove the leading # and any accidental space that leaves the line commented. A Cfx.re forum user reported fixing a non-working banner by removing that comment marker; the discussion is available at Cfx.re’s “How to add server banner” thread.
The convar name is wrong
Compare the setting with the canonical spellings:
sets banner_detailsets banner_connecting
Do not substitute banner_connection, insert an asterisk, or change the underscore. The server will not associate an incorrectly named variable with the banner feature.
The URL is not a direct, publicly reachable image
Open the exact URL while logged out and check what it returns. If it opens a host page instead of the image, redirects through a private share, expires, requires a cookie or is blocked from some networks, obtain a different direct image URL. The Imgur blocking report in the Cfx.re community is a reminder that a link can work for one viewer and still fail for players.
You edited the wrong configuration file
Large server setups can contain several CFG files. Confirm which file the host or txAdmin startup command loads. Editing a backup, template or local copy has no effect on the running instance. Reopen the file after saving to ensure the two lines are still present, then restart that same server instance.

You saved but did not restart
Restart after every banner change. If you changed both URLs, verify both after the same restart so that you do not mistake an old running process for a failed setting.
Only one of the two banners fails
Check the working convar against the failing one. Compare the URL’s direct response, spelling, quotation marks and whether a leading hash is present. Because banner_detail and banner_connecting are independent settings, a successful details banner does not prove that the connecting URL is valid.
The image appears distorted or cropped
Review the canvas dimensions and the placement of important artwork. The available guidance conflicts on a fixed size: 1865 × 108 is the commonly cited default, 1865 × 250 is another reported value, and one source says no strict size applies. Try the 1865 × 108 layout first, then adjust the artwork rather than assuming a different convar is needed.
Using a sample server.cfg as a template
Some sample configurations include unrelated settings such as sv_projectName. A Scribd server.cfg sample shows that variable, but the available evidence does not establish that it controls either banner. Do not add or alter sv_projectName as a banner fix; troubleshoot the two banner convars and their image URLs instead.
A clean update workflow for future banner changes
- Create or export the new artwork using a wide banner layout. Start with 1865 × 108 pixels if you want the commonly cited default, while remembering that it is not confirmed as a hard requirement.
- Upload it to a host that provides a direct, publicly reachable image address.
- Test the exact address in a private browser window and confirm that it returns the image.
- Back up the current
server.cfgor copy the existing banner lines somewhere safe so you can restore the previous URLs. - Replace the relevant convar. Change only
banner_detailif the server-list artwork should change, onlybanner_connectingfor the loading screen, or both for a complete refresh. - Check that neither line starts with
#and that the connecting variable is spelledbanner_connecting. - Save the active configuration file.
- Restart the server.
- Verify the details view and connecting screen separately. If one is missing, return to that convar’s URL and syntax rather than changing the working setting.
What you do—and do not—need
- Required: access to the active
server.cfg, a direct image URL reachable by players, the correctly spelled convars and a server restart. - Not required by the documented procedure: a separate FiveM resource, a script, a database migration or a change to unrelated project settings.
- Optional: separate artwork for the server-list details view and the connecting screen.
The change is a configuration edit plus a hosted image. There is no physical product or additional in-game installation involved.
