On Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, change the console region at Profile & system > Settings > System > Language & location, choose a new value under Location, then select Restart now. This changes the console’s location, not automatically the country on your Microsoft account. Microsoft recommends changing region for a long-term move, not a short holiday. Store catalogs, prices, billing requirements, subscriptions, apps, games, films and account balance can be affected, so spend your existing balance before switching.
How do I change the region on Xbox One or Xbox Series X|S?
The current Xbox dashboard uses the same procedure on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. You must sign in to the console, select the destination country or region, and restart before the new location is applied.

- Sign in. Turn on the Xbox console and sign in to the profile you use for Xbox services.
- Open the guide. Press the Xbox button on the controller.
- Open language and location settings. Select Profile & system > Settings > System > Language & location.
- Choose the location. Under Location, select the country or region where you now live.
- Review language controls. Change System language or Language region as well if you want the dashboard, formatting or language settings to match the new locale. These controls are separate from the location selector.
- Apply the change. Select Restart now. The restart is part of Microsoft’s documented procedure; closing the menu without restarting does not complete the console-location change.
After the console comes back on, the Xbox dashboard is using the selected location. A console restart applies this device setting; it does not edit the country recorded on your Microsoft account.
What does changing the Xbox console location affect?
The location setting tells the Xbox which regional environment to use. Microsoft identifies Xbox subscriptions, apps, games, films and Microsoft account balance as items that can differ by region. Availability, licensing, pricing and purchase eligibility can therefore change after the switch.

Store catalog and media
The Store may show a different catalog in the new location. A game, app or film available in one country may be unavailable, licensed differently or offered at a different price in another. The setting is not a promise that every item you previously used will appear or function identically in the new locale.
Subscriptions and services
Xbox Live Gold and Xbox Game Pass are among the services Microsoft lists as potentially region-dependent. Do not assume that a subscription’s catalog, renewal terms or purchase eligibility will be identical after the change. Microsoft’s guidance does not guarantee uninterrupted, identical service behavior across regions.

Account balance
Microsoft warns that account funds do not move between regions. Spend the balance associated with the old locale before changing account location; leaving money behind can make it unusable in the destination region.
Payments on the first purchase
Microsoft prompts for updated billing information on the first purchase in the new locale. Have a payment method and billing address for that country ready. A card or address from the former country may not satisfy the new region’s billing requirements.
Should I change my Xbox region when traveling?
Usually not. Microsoft says, “We recommend you change your region only if you’re moving to a new country or region for a long time.” A short holiday, business trip or temporary stay normally is not a reason to alter the console setting.

Long-term relocation
Change the location when you have moved and expect to use the console in the new country for an extended period. Before doing so, review your account balance, subscriptions and any purchases that may be tied to the old market. Prepare destination-country billing details for the first purchase.

Temporary travel
Leave the region unchanged for a brief trip unless Microsoft Support specifically instructs you otherwise. Switching for a holiday can create avoidable catalog, currency and payment complications without providing a lasting benefit.
When the old region is still needed
If you are moving between countries but still rely on services or purchases from the former market, changing the console location may not produce the result you expect. The documented procedure changes the device’s setting; it does not transfer funds or guarantee that subscriptions and content follow you.
What is the difference between console location and Microsoft account country?
They are separate settings with different scopes. Changing one does not automatically change the other.

If the Store still shows an unexpected country, identify which setting is wrong before repeating a change. A console location edit cannot substitute for an account-profile edit, and an account-profile edit does not replace the console restart required for the device setting.

How do I change the country on my Microsoft account?
Use the account dashboard rather than the Xbox system menu when the account profile itself has the wrong country.
- Open your Microsoft account dashboard and sign in.
- Go to Your info.
- Select Edit profile info.
- Find Country or region and select the new country.
- Save the profile change, then review billing details before making a purchase in that market.
This account procedure has a different scope from changing the console’s Location. The documented Xbox console instructions specifically require a restart; the account-profile path is handled separately in the account dashboard.
What should I do before changing regions?
A short preparation check prevents the most common commercial problems. Complete these checks before selecting Restart now.
- Confirm the reason. Make sure this is a long-term move rather than a short trip.
- Spend account funds. Microsoft says balances do not transfer between regions.
- Review subscriptions. Note the services you use, because Xbox subscriptions and their content can vary by market.
- Record purchase details. Keep receipts or other information you may need if a title or service is presented differently after the change.
- Prepare local billing information. The first purchase in the new locale prompts for a payment method and billing address for that country.
- Decide on language settings. Location, System language and Language region are separate controls, so choose whether all three should change.
- Check the hardware generation. Xbox One and Series X|S use the Location menu; Xbox 360 requires profile migration instead.
How is the Xbox 360 region process different?
Xbox 360 does not use the same simple Location selector. Microsoft’s documented process migrates the Xbox profile, and that migration can affect other subscriptions and services.

- Select Locale.
- Choose the new country.
- During the migration process, add a credit card and billing address from the new country when prompted.
- Review the effects on subscriptions and services before completing the migration.
The migration requirement makes Xbox 360 a materially different case from Xbox One and Series X|S. Do not follow the newer console’s instructions expecting a Location selector to appear on Xbox 360.

Why is the region change unavailable?
Microsoft lists several account conditions that can prevent a country or region change. Check each one before contacting support.
- Recent country change: The account may be blocked when it was changed within the last three months.
- Suspended account: An account suspension can make the option unavailable.
- Balance due: Outstanding money owed on the account can prevent the change.
- Legal-minor mismatch: The legal-minor status associated with the account must be compatible between the old and new regions.
Correct any applicable account condition and try the official setting again. If the option remains unavailable, contact Microsoft Support rather than repeatedly changing unrelated console settings.

Use a controlled check rather than immediately making a purchase.
- Open the Store and verify that the displayed country or regional context matches the location you selected.
- Check whether the expected language and formatting are active if you changed System language or Language region.
- Review your account balance and subscription pages before attempting a transaction.
- When you are ready to buy, enter the destination-country billing address and payment method requested for the first purchase.
- If a title, app, film or subscription appears differently, treat that as a possible regional availability or licensing difference rather than assuming the restart failed.
These checks distinguish a correctly applied console setting from a separate account, billing or licensing limitation.

What is the safest way to switch regions?
For Xbox One and Series X|S, use the Language & location menu, spend old-region funds first, restart, and make the account-country edit separately if the profile also needs updating. For Xbox 360, use Locale and complete the required profile migration with destination-country billing details. Change region for a long-term move; keeping the setting unchanged during short travel avoids unnecessary service and payment complications.

Can I change my Xbox region again soon after changing it?
