If you want to keep your existing factory, do not create a new session. Move the HUB instead. The HUB is the respawn point, and relocating it changes where players respawn without resetting the factory or world.

Satisfactory uses one interconnected world. The starting area determines where a new session begins, but it does not divide the map into separate worlds. You can eventually travel away from the initial landing zone and build elsewhere.
There are two different changes that players often describe as “changing the spawn.” They have different consequences:

Decide which result you need before opening the server controls. A HUB relocation cannot turn an existing save into a different newly generated starting session, while creating a new session is not a safe way to move an established factory.
Available starting areas
The Create Game screen offers four starting areas:

The four choices are starting locations, not four disconnected maps. Selecting one changes the opening position for a newly created session; it does not remove access to the rest of the world.
Why Dune Desert is a more demanding choice
Dune Desert is identified as the hardest starting option. Foliage and water are rare and contained there, so an inexperienced group can face a more constrained opening than it would in another area. Select it deliberately if your group is prepared for that limitation. The available information does not establish a detailed difficulty ranking for Grass Fields, Rocky Desert or Northern Forest, so do not assume that one of those three is universally easier than another.
What you need before changing the area
You must be able to administer the server. Server Manager requires administrator permissions, and the administrator password may be requested before the controls become available. If you cannot see the server or the Create Game tab, ask the server owner to grant the appropriate access rather than repeatedly attempting to create a session.

- Have the correct server selected in the game’s main menu.
- Use an account with administrator permissions.
- Keep the administrator password available if the server asks for it.
- Decide whether losing the current session is acceptable.
- Prepare a unique session name using ordinary letters and numbers; avoid special characters and accented characters during initial generation.
No physical product or accessory is required. The change is performed through the game’s server controls.
Step-by-step: create a new session in another starting area
Use this procedure only when a reset is acceptable. Creating the session does not relocate an existing factory; it creates a new session and removes the progress associated with the old one.
- Open Server Manager. From the game’s main menu, open Server Manager and select the server you intend to change. Verify the server identity before continuing, especially if you administer more than one server.
- Authenticate as an administrator. Sign in with an account that has administrator permissions. Enter the administrator password if prompted. Without administrative access, the starting-area controls may not be available.
- Open Create Game. Select the Create Game tab. This is the screen where a new session’s starting area is chosen.
- Select the starting area. Choose one of Grass Fields, Rocky Desert, Northern Forest or Dune Desert. If the group is new to the game, consider the Dune Desert warning: it is the hardest option because foliage and water are rare and contained.
- Enter a unique session name. Use a name that is not already in use on that server. For the initial generation, avoid punctuation, symbols and accented characters. A plain name reduces the chance that special-character handling will block map generation.
- Review the irreversible consequence. Confirm that you are creating a new session rather than moving the HUB. Existing progress will be erased when the new session is created.
- Create the game. Submit the form and wait for the server to generate and synchronize the session. Changes may take up to one hour to apply.
- Verify the result in-game. Join the newly created session and confirm that the highlighted starting area matches the selection you made. Do this before inviting the rest of the group or rebuilding a large base.
If the menu labels differ from these instructions, use the closest current labels in Server Manager. Menu details can change between game or server versions, so the in-game screen is the final authority on what your installation supports.
How to avoid accidentally deleting the factory
The most important confirmation is the distinction between a new session and a HUB move. A new session is the reset path. It does not preserve machines, buildings, inventory or other progress from the previous session. Treat the Create Game action as a new-game operation, not as a spawn-setting toggle.

Before submitting the form, ask the players one direct question: “Are we starting over?” If the answer is no, stop and use the HUB procedure below. If the answer is yes, record the intended area and session name so everyone joins the same new session rather than an older one with a similar name.
Keep the factory: relocate the HUB
When the goal is a different respawn location rather than a new world start, relocate the HUB. The HUB is the respawn point and can be moved at any time. Moving it changes where players return after respawning while leaving the factory intact.

- Join the existing session. Do not open Create Game or submit a new-session form.
- Choose the desired location. Travel to the area where you want the group’s respawn point.
- Relocate the HUB. Move the HUB to that location using the in-game building controls available to your session.
- Confirm the new respawn point. Have a player verify that the relocated HUB is the point used after respawning.
This method is the appropriate answer to “How do I change the spawn but keep my factory?” It changes the respawn point, not the original starting-area selection recorded when the session was created.
Server synchronization and map-generation timing
After creating a new session, allow up to one hour for the server to synchronize the change. The delay can make it appear that the old area is still active even when the request has been accepted. Avoid repeatedly creating sessions during that window; doing so can produce several similarly named sessions and make it harder to identify the intended one.

Use a simple verification sequence:
- Wait for the synchronization period to complete.
- Refresh or reopen the server list in the game’s menu.
- Join the session using its exact name.
- Check the highlighted starting area or opening position.
- Only then distribute the session name to other players.
The one-hour figure is a maximum allowance indicated for applying changes, not a promise that every server will take that long. Your installation may finish sooner.

Troubleshooting when the new area does not appear
The Create Game tab is missing
Check administrator access first. Server Manager’s starting-area controls require admin permissions, and an administrator password may be required. Confirm that you selected the intended server rather than joining it as a regular player. If the tab remains unavailable, the account or server role is the likely cause.
The world has not changed yet
Allow the full synchronization period, which can be up to one hour. Then leave and rejoin the session using its exact unique name. Confirm the highlighted area instead of relying on a remembered server-list order.
Initial map generation fails
Repeat the creation procedure and check the selected area before submitting it again. Use a new, simple session name without special characters or accents. Those characters can block initial map generation. If the second attempt also fails, compare the current in-game menu with this procedure because server or game updates may have changed the labels or workflow.

The wrong area is highlighted
Do not assume the session changed successfully. Reopen Create Game, verify the intended area is highlighted, and confirm that you are naming and joining the new session rather than an older session. If the wrong session was created, starting another session will again erase progress associated with the previous one, so make the reset decision deliberately.
Players still respawn at the old location
If you created a new session, check that everyone joined that new session. If you kept the existing factory, creating a new session was the wrong operation; relocate the HUB in the original session. The HUB, not the Create Game selection, controls the respawn point after a factory has been established.
Choosing the right approach for common scenarios

Practical checklist before you click Create
- Is this a genuine new-game request, or only a request to change respawn?
- Has everyone agreed that the current session’s progress can be erased?
- Are you signed in with administrator permissions?
- Do you have the administrator password if prompted?
- Is exactly one of the four areas highlighted?
- Is the session name unique and free of special or accented characters?
- Can the group wait up to one hour for synchronization?
- Will you verify the opening area by joining the newly named session?
If any answer is no, pause before submitting. The costly mistake is creating a new session when the actual need was merely to move the HUB.
Version and menu-label caveat
Menu details can become outdated as Satisfactory and dedicated-server tools change. The procedure above describes the Server Manager flow in which the Create Game tab presents the four starting areas. If your installation uses different wording, follow the current in-game labels and confirm the highlighted area before committing. The underlying decision remains the same: session creation changes the starting area and resets progress; HUB relocation changes the respawn point while preserving the factory.
