What the visible region setting actually controls
Conan Exiles uses a region value to decide where a server appears when players browse or filter the server list. A server can therefore be physically hosted in one place while being displayed under another region.
The setting is useful when the browser label is wrong, when you want the server to appear in a different regional filter, or when a host’s panel assigned an unsuitable default. It is not a network-routing control. Changing it should not be expected to move the server, change its hardware location, or automatically improve ping.

Available host guidance describes the setting as a display and filtering choice rather than a physical-location change. Treat latency, connection quality, and machine location as separate issues.
Choose the correct method

Do not edit files on a hosted server unless the provider explicitly gives you file access and identifies the active configuration file. A panel may generate or overwrite configuration files when the server starts.
Before changing anything
- Identify the server instance. If you run several instances, record the instance name or port so you do not edit a different server’s settings.
- Schedule a restart. Players connected during the change can be disconnected when the server stops.
- Stop the server first. Editing while the process is running can be lost when the process writes its current settings on shutdown.
- Back up the configuration file or record the old value. A one-line backup makes it easy to undo a mistaken code.
- Check the host’s region list. Region numbering is not consistent across every published guide, especially for values 3, 4, and 5.
- Plan a browser check. You will need to confirm the server’s displayed region after it restarts; changing the file alone is not proof that the listing updated.
Change the region on a hosted server
Control panels use different layouts, but the documented workflow is consistent. Wabbanode’s instructions place the controls under world settings; Akliz and Shockbyte also publish guidance for the region setting. The exact labels and menu placement can differ by provider.

- Open the server control panel. Select the Conan Exiles instance whose listing needs correcting.
- Stop the server. Wait until the panel reports that the process is fully stopped. Do not save a world-setting change while the server is still running.
- Open the world-settings area. Look for fields named Community and Region, or an equivalent server-browser section.
- Set the community field if required by the panel. Some hosts present community and region as a pair. Keep the community value that matches how you want the server categorized; do not change unrelated gameplay settings.
- Select the intended region. If the panel shows names, choose the named region. If it shows numeric values, verify the provider’s mapping before saving.
- Save or apply the settings. Confirm that the panel reports a successful save. If it offers a generated-configuration preview, verify that the region value changed.
- Start the server. Allow the process to finish loading before checking the public browser.
- Verify the listing. Open Conan Exiles’ server browser, clear any region filter that could hide the server, and check the region displayed for the server name.
If the panel has separate Save and Restart buttons, use them in that order. A restart without a successful save can leave the old value in place.
Change the region on a self-managed server
For a self-managed installation, the relevant setting is the serverRegion= line in ServerSettings.ini. The exact folder path is not confirmed for every platform or installation method, so use the file that belongs to the active server instance rather than assuming a universal path.
- Stop the dedicated server process. If it is managed by a service, stop the service and wait for the process to exit.
- Find the active
ServerSettings.ini. Search the server’s configuration folders for that filename. If multiple copies exist, identify the one referenced by the instance you actually start. - Make a backup. Copy the file to a separate location or duplicate it with a clear name such as
ServerSettings.ini.backup. - Open the file as plain text. Use a text editor that does not add rich-text formatting.
- Locate the region entry. Find a line in this form:
serverRegion=0 - Replace only the value. Keep the setting name and equals sign unchanged. For example, changing the value to 1 produces
serverRegion=1. - Save the file. Check that the editor did not append a second extension such as
.txt. - Start or restart the server. The value is read when the server loads its configuration.
- Check the public listing. Confirm the displayed region in the browser after the server is online.
If the line is missing, do not create several competing entries. First confirm that you have the active file and that the server version uses this setting. A host, platform administrator, or current game-specific documentation may be needed to establish the correct file path for your installation.

Region numbers: where published mappings disagree
Values 0, 1, and 2 are consistent between the two commonly cited mappings: Europe, North America, and Asia. Values 3 through 5 are not consistent, so selecting a number from a generic configuration generator can produce an unexpected browser label.

The conflict means there is no responsible universal recommendation for codes 3, 4, or 5 without knowing which mapping your server build or host applies. Use the provider’s named-region selector when available. If you must enter a number, verify the result in the browser and correct it if the label is not the intended one.
How to verify that the change worked
- Wait until the server has completed its restart and is visible as online.
- Open the in-game server browser and remove a region filter temporarily, if one is active.
- Search for the server by its name or other distinctive listing details.
- Read the region shown by the browser, not just the value you entered in a panel or file.
- Apply the region filter for the intended area and confirm that the server appears there.
If the old region remains immediately after the restart, refresh the browser view and allow the listing time to update. Then re-check that you changed the active instance, saved the correct file or panel form, and completed a full stop/start cycle.

Troubleshooting common failures
The value changes back after every restart
This usually indicates that the wrong configuration file was edited, the panel did not save the change, or an automated startup configuration is regenerating the file. Stop the server, identify the instance’s active settings, and compare the value before and after a controlled restart. On a hosted service, use the panel’s save function rather than editing a downloaded copy that the service does not read.
The server still appears under the wrong region
First check the numeric mapping. A value of 3, 4, or 5 can represent different places in different published tables. If the host offers named regions, use that selector and verify the resulting browser label. Also confirm that the server was fully stopped before the change and that you are viewing the correct server entry.
The server is listed in the new region, but players’ ping does not change
That is expected. The setting controls the browser’s region classification; it does not move the server’s physical hosting location or reroute player traffic. Investigate the host location, network route, and client connection separately if latency is the problem.

I cannot find ServerSettings.ini
The exact path is installation- and platform-dependent, and a universal path is not established. Search the configuration directories used by the running instance, inspect the host’s current documentation, or ask the administrator which file is loaded. Do not assume that a similarly named file in another installation is active.

Whether Enhanced changed the setting name or file path has not been conclusively verified. Do not blindly copy a classic-edition path. Use the Enhanced-specific host or platform instructions, and confirm the browser result after any change.
The panel shows community and region but no numeric code
Use the panel’s named region option. The panel is translating the selection for you, which avoids the 3–5 numbering conflict found in external tables. Save the world settings, restart, and verify the displayed label.
