To use R6, change your character’s rig preference on Roblox’s website in Edit Avatar, selecting R6 if that option appears. A Roblox experience can override your preference, so the change may not affect every game. Roblox’s official support explains where avatar editing begins, but does not document the current exact route to the rig selector.
Change your character setting on the Roblox website
-
Sign in to Roblox in a web browser and open Avatar from the site navigation. Roblox’s avatar customization guide identifies Avatar as the starting point for editing.
-
Open Edit Avatar. Roblox Creator Hub describes the player’s R6/R15 choice as a character setting set on the website’s Edit Avatar page, but its GameAvatarType documentation does not specify the current selector’s exact menu labels or click sequence.
-
Look for the character or rig type setting, choose R6 if it is offered, and apply or save the selection if the interface prompts you.

Why a game may still use R15
Roblox experiences can specify R6, R15, or PlayerChoice. With PlayerChoice, the experience uses the rig selected in the player’s website character settings. If the experience specifies R6 or R15 instead, that setting can determine the rig regardless of your preference. Roblox documents these options in its GameAvatarType reference.

What R6 means
R6 and R15 refer to different Roblox character rigs: R6 is constructed from six parts, while R15 is constructed from fifteen. These are structural definitions, not a guarantee that a particular experience supports both rigs. Roblox defines them in its Terms of Use.

Roblox’s mobile navigation label is changing from Avatar to Me, with the rollout varying by region. Use whichever label appears to open avatar customization. The official mobile support guidance does not establish the exact route to the R6/R15 selector, so if you cannot find it in the app, try the website’s Edit Avatar page instead.
