If you later buy the game, Xbox says you can continue and keep the Gamerscore and achievements earned during the event—but that statement does not guarantee every game’s checkpoint or save behavior.
How to check your Free Play Days progress
Open the game and look for its own progress indicator, such as a save or continue screen, checkpoint, quest log, or career menu. The event listing tells you which games are available; it does not provide a shared percentage tracker.

To find the games in an event, Xbox directs console players to the Store’s Subscriptions tab and the Free Play Days collection. You can also open an individual game’s detail page. The available titles and access requirements can change by event, membership tier, and region, so check the current listing rather than relying on an older event announcement. Xbox Wire’s June 4, 2026 announcement is an example of event-specific instructions, not a current schedule.
Will your save still be there after Free Play Days?
Xbox says that if you purchase a game, you can continue playing and keep the Gamerscore and achievements earned during the event. The announcement does not explicitly promise that every title will preserve every checkpoint or save state, so the exact return experience depends on the game.

Xbox cloud saves are separate from your temporary permission to launch a game. Microsoft’s general save-sync documentation describes how session data is saved locally and synchronized with the cloud when the device is connected. That platform behavior supports resuming a game, but it does not override a game’s own save design, online requirements, or edition differences.
Before you stop playing: let the save sync
- Stay signed in to the Xbox account you used to play. Save progress is associated with the relevant player profile.
- Connect to the Xbox network before ending the session. Offline progress is stored locally until syncing is possible.
- Allow the game or session to finish syncing. Microsoft says the device attempts to upload save data at the end of a session when it has a connection.
- Read any save-conflict prompt carefully. If both local and cloud copies have changed, Xbox may ask you to choose which copy to use. Check which one has your latest progress before selecting.
- When access returns, launch the game with the same account. If the title requires a purchase or another current entitlement to launch, restore access first; then check its continue or save menu.
Microsoft’s Game Saves sync flow documentation describes the platform’s general process: Xbox checks ownership and timestamps, uploads a changed local copy or downloads a changed cloud copy, and can prompt the player if both have changed. Individual games may handle saving differently.

Taking progress to another device
Use the same Xbox account when returning to a game. Whether progress carries across devices or editions depends on the title and the supported platform path.
- Same console or platform: Sign in with the same account and use the same game. Microsoft’s XR-052 policy describes save roaming for specified Xbox cases, including same-platform and cross-generation scenarios.
- Xbox console to PC: Check whether the specific game is designated Xbox Play Anywhere. Microsoft says progress in Play Anywhere games is saved with the gamertag so you can pick up on another device. This does not mean every Free Play Days title supports cross-progression.
- A different edition or platform: Do not assume the save will transfer. The game’s identity, edition, and supported roaming options matter; check the title’s current platform details before switching.
The Microsoft digital-goods usage rules explain the Play Anywhere continuity provision. These rules describe supported program behavior, not a guarantee that every game participates.

What a past event example can—and cannot—tell you
In its June 4, 2026 announcement, Xbox listed a particular No More Robots event running June 4–7, 2026, with access for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, Premium, and Essential members. It also said all Xbox players could try Descenders on console without those memberships. Those dates, games, and eligibility terms applied to that event only; they do not establish the requirements or schedule for another event. The announcement also cautioned that discounts, percentages, and availability could vary by title and region. Check the event announcement for its specific details.
