A matchmaking problem alone does not prove you have a permanent ban: the page distinguishes account bans from limited matchmaking and Ranked Play restrictions. It does not show hardware-ban status.
Check your Call of Duty account status
- Open Activision’s Ban Appeal page and sign in to the Activision account you use for Call of Duty.
- Read the status and check which game titles are listed. The result applies to the account and titles shown there.
- Follow the next step for the specific status displayed. “NO BAN DETECTED” means the page has not detected an account ban; it does not establish whether a hardware ban is present.
What each enforcement status means
| Status | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| NO BAN DETECTED | The account-status check did not detect an account ban for the listed titles. Hardware-ban status is not shown on this page. | Check the title and account details carefully. If you suspect a hardware ban, Activision says its status may be checked in game. |
| Limited matchmaking | A restricted matchmaking state associated with a potential violation or suspicious activity. It is not the same as a temporary or permanent ban, and the status can change. | Monitor the status on the Ban Appeal page. Activision says this state cannot be appealed. Leaving limited matchmaking does not itself establish that the account has been cleared of potential violations. |
| Ranked Play restriction | A restriction distinct from an account ban. Depending on the policy, it may affect party members and last for a season, multiple seasons, or future titles. | Consult Activision’s Security and Enforcement Policy for the applicable restriction. |
| Temporary ban | A time-limited account penalty. The status page may show when it ends. | Wait for the stated end time and check the account status again. Activision says temporary bans cannot be appealed. |
| Permanent ban | A lasting penalty that may apply across Call of Duty titles. | You may submit an appeal. Activision says it will overturn a permanent ban only if its review determines that the infraction resulted from a hacked Activision account. Appeal decisions are final. |
| Hardware ban | A device-level status that the account-status page does not display or accept appeals for. | Activision says hardware-ban status may be checked in game. |
Why matchmaking trouble is not proof of a permanent ban
Limited matchmaking is a restriction state, not a synonym for a permanent ban. Activision says it can change over time: matchmaking may return to normal or the account may receive another penalty. Neither entering nor leaving limited matchmaking alone settles whether a violation occurred. Ranked Play restrictions are also separate from temporary and permanent account bans.
The Security and Enforcement Policy covers Call of Duty titles starting with Modern Warfare (2019) and later console and PC titles. Its listed enforcement actions include warnings, temporary and permanent bans, limited matchmaking, Ranked Play restrictions, and other penalties such as revoking Call of Duty Points or in-game items.
If you think someone accessed your account
Look for unfamiliar linked accounts or changes to your account details. If you find signs of compromise, use Activision’s Account Security resources and hacked-account recovery process.

Activision states that the account holder is responsible for infractions on the account, regardless of who was playing. Its appeal guidance says a permanent ban may be overturned only when the review determines that the account was hacked. The status page provides an outcome after its investigation is complete; it does not promise a fixed review timeframe.
