Start with AMD’s official supported-games list, then check your Radeon hardware, Adrenalin driver, graphics API and the game’s FSR integration. AMD now places FSR 4 under the name FSR Upscaling in the broader FSR Redstone family, although some game menus still say “AMD FSR 4.” A title can support FSR natively, qualify for AMD’s driver upgrade from FSR 3.1, or offer only a different scaler such as Radeon Super Resolution (RSR).
The fastest way to verify FSR 4 support
Use this order so that a misleading menu label or an available driver toggle does not lead you to the wrong conclusion:
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
- Find the game on AMD’s current FSR supported-games list.
- Identify whether the title has a native FSR Upscaling/FSR 4 implementation or an FSR 3.1 integration eligible for AMD’s driver upgrade.
- Confirm that your GPU and Adrenalin software meet the relevant requirements.
- Check the game’s rendering API and DLL integration if you are relying on the driver-upgrade path.
- Enable the Adrenalin toggle and the game’s own FSR control, then verify the result in the graphics menu.
If the game is absent from AMD’s list, do not call it officially FSR 4-compatible. It may receive support after a game or driver update, so check the live list again rather than relying on an old article or a screenshot.

AMD’s current naming groups the machine-learning upscaler formerly presented as FSR 4 under FSR Upscaling, within the wider FSR Redstone family. The terminology is in transition: a game can still display “AMD FSR 4,” while AMD’s driver panel uses “AMD FSR Upscaling.” Treat the function and the game’s listing as evidence; do not decide compatibility from the wording alone.

- Axial-tech fans now feature a smaller fan hub that facilitates longer blades and a barrier ring that increases downward air pressure
- 2.5-slot design allows for greater build compatibility while maintaining cooling performance
- 0dB technology lets you enjoy light gaming in relative silence
- Dual BIOS switch lets you toggle between Quiet and Performance BIOS profiles
- Dual ball fan bearings last up to twice as long as sleeve bearing designs
FSR Upscaling is not the same as every feature in the FSR family. Upscaling reconstructs a higher-resolution image from a lower-resolution render. Frame Generation is a separate option and needs its own game and hardware support. A game may expose one feature without the other.
Check AMD’s official supported-games list
AMD’s FSR technology page links to the supported-games catalog. Search that list for the exact PC title and, where applicable, the exact edition or game version. This is the authoritative starting point for an official-support claim because AMD’s whitelist changes as games and drivers are updated.
What the listing can and cannot tell you
- A listed title is evidence that AMD recognizes an FSR path for that game; you still need to check your GPU, driver and implementation type.
- A missing title is not proof that FSR can never work, but it means you should not describe FSR 4 as officially supported.
- Older guides may use “FSR 4” while the live AMD page says “FSR Upscaling.” Search for both terms if the title’s menu and AMD’s page use different labels.
- Support counts and whitelists are volatile. AMD GPUOpen reported more than 85 games covered by the expanded driver feature with Adrenalin 25.9.1 on September 8, 2025; that number is a dated snapshot, not a permanent catalog size.
Determine whether support is native or a driver upgrade
There are two different ways a game can reach the ML-based upscaler. They have different signs and requirements.
Native in-game integration
A natively integrated title exposes the ML-based option in its own graphics or video settings. Depending on the game version, the control may read “AMD FSR 4,” “FSR Upscaling,” or a related quality setting. If the game appears on AMD’s list and presents that control directly, native support is indicated. Verify the GPU and driver requirements before expecting the option to work.

Adrenalin driver-upgrade path
Other games integrate FSR 3.1 or a later compatible version. On supported hardware, AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition can substitute the ML-based implementation while the game continues to display an FSR 3.1 control. In that situation, the in-game label alone does not prove which upscaler is running. Confirmation requires all of the following:
- The title is on AMD’s supported-games list.
- The game uses DirectX 12.
- The game has a signed FSR 3.1 DLL integration.
- You have a Radeon RX 9000-series graphics card and a current Adrenalin driver.
- The AMD FSR Upscaling toggle is enabled in Adrenalin.
AMD’s documented override does not support Vulkan games or non-standard integrations. A game can therefore show FSR 3.1 and still be ineligible for the FSR 4 driver upgrade.
Hardware and software requirements
| Check | What AMD documents | Practical implication |
|---|---|---|
| Native ML-based FSR Upscaling | Available on Radeon RX 7000 and RX 9000 graphics; RX 6000 support is planned for 2027. Feature support varies by implementation and game. | Being on an RX 7000 does not guarantee that every game exposes the feature. Confirm the title and implementation. |
| FSR 4 driver upgrade | Expanded by AMD GPUOpen for Radeon RX 9000-series cards with a current Adrenalin driver. | An RX 9000-series card is the relevant hardware class for the override path. |
| Driver version example | AMD GPUOpen reported coverage of more than 85 games with Adrenalin 25.9.1 on September 8, 2025. | Install a current driver; the whitelist and version requirements can change. |
| Rendering API | The override requires DirectX 12. | Vulkan titles do not qualify for AMD’s documented driver override. |
| Integration file | The game must use a signed FSR 3.1 DLL for the override. | Non-standard integrations are excluded even if a game has an FSR-looking menu option. |
AMD separately states that ML-based FSR Upscaling support for Radeon RX 6000 is planned for 2027. That is a forward-looking availability statement, not a feature you can assume on an RX 6000 card today.

- Close the game. The driver option should be set before launching the title.
- Open AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition.
- Go to Gaming, then Graphics.
- Turn on the AMD FSR Upscaling toggle. If the title and hardware support frame generation, enable the separate FSR Frame Generation toggle as well; do not assume one enables the other.
- Launch the game.
- Open the game’s Graphics or Video settings.
- Enable FSR 3.1 if it is not already enabled. AMD’s driver-upgrade path uses the game’s FSR 3.1 control as the entry point.
- Choose the desired FSR quality preset from the in-game menu. The preset controls the internal rendering resolution and the reconstruction-versus-performance trade-off.
AMD’s instructions specifically tell users to launch the game, turn on FSR 3.1 in the in-game graphics or video options if necessary, and then select the desired FSR upscaling quality preset. AMD GPUOpen describes the shorter version as enabling FSR 3.1 in the supported game while ensuring that the FSR 4 toggle is on in Adrenalin.
How to verify what is actually active
A visible FSR 3.1 menu item does not distinguish a normal FSR 3.1 implementation from the driver-substituted ML model. Use a layered check:
- Confirm the title remains on AMD’s supported-games list.
- Confirm that Adrenalin’s AMD FSR Upscaling toggle is on for the gaming profile or global graphics settings you are using.
- Confirm that the game is running DirectX 12 rather than Vulkan.
- Confirm that FSR 3.1 is enabled in the game and that you selected a quality preset instead of leaving the scaler disabled.
- Restart the game after changing the driver toggle. Some titles read the upscaler configuration only during launch.
If the game has a native FSR Upscaling or FSR 4 entry, that in-game entry is the clearest indication of native support. If it only has FSR 3.1, the combination of AMD’s list, DirectX 12, a signed DLL and the Adrenalin toggle is the evidence for the upgrade path.

FSR 4 versus Radeon Super Resolution
Radeon Super Resolution (RSR) is an in-driver spatial upscaler for games that do not have an integrated upscaling option. AMD documents RSR for compatible full-screen modes and recommends a game’s built-in FSR when one is available, because game-specific integration can apply optimizations that a generic driver scaler cannot.

RSR being present in Adrenalin does not mean the game supports FSR 4. RSR can make an unsupported game render at a lower internal resolution, but it does not add the game’s native FSR controls, signed FSR 3.1 integration or eligibility for the FSR 4 driver override.
Troubleshooting when the toggle or option is missing
The game is listed, but Adrenalin shows no FSR Upscaling toggle
- Check that the GPU is a Radeon RX 9000-series card when you are attempting the driver-upgrade path.
- Update Adrenalin, then restart the computer and reopen the game profile.
- Verify that you are using the supported game executable and not a launcher or alternate API mode.
- Check the live AMD list and current driver notes because supported titles and requirements change.
The game shows FSR 3.1, but the upgrade does nothing
- Confirm that the game is running DirectX 12, not Vulkan.
- Make sure the title uses a signed FSR 3.1 DLL and a standard integration.
- Enable FSR 3.1 in the game before expecting the driver substitution.
- Close and relaunch the game after changing the Adrenalin setting.
The game has RSR but no FSR menu
This is expected for a title without integrated upscaling. RSR is a fallback and does not establish FSR 4 support. Use the game’s own FSR option if a later update adds one.
The menu still says FSR 3.1
That label can be normal on a driver-upgraded title. AMD’s override can replace the implementation while leaving the game’s original FSR 3.1 control visible. Confirm the title, API, signed integration and Adrenalin toggle instead of relying on the label.

AMD has renamed FSR 4 as FSR Upscaling within FSR Redstone and continues expanding the supported-game catalog. Menu labels, driver requirements, GPU availability and whitelists can change with updates. Before troubleshooting a newly released game, recheck AMD’s live FSR page, the game’s current patch notes and your installed Adrenalin version. A result that was unavailable on one driver may appear after a later update, while a game’s rendering path can also change between versions.
Bottom line: a reliable support test
Call a PC game FSR 4-compatible only when AMD’s list and the game’s implementation support that conclusion. A native FSR Upscaling/FSR 4 menu is the direct case. For the driver-upgrade case, require a listed game, Radeon RX 9000-series hardware, a current Adrenalin driver, DirectX 12, a signed FSR 3.1 DLL and the enabled AMD FSR Upscaling toggle. FSR 3.1 by itself, Vulkan support, or RSR alone is not enough.
