Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Check the game’s own PS5 specifications or patch notes for an explicit frame-rate target, then confirm which mode and game version it applies to. A PS5 setting for 120 Hz output—or a game option called “Performance Mode”—does not by itself prove that the game targets 60 FPS.
Where to check a game’s 60 FPS support
- Search for the exact PS5 game title and “60 FPS” or “frame rate.” Prioritize the PlayStation Store listing, the publisher’s or developer’s specifications, and official patch notes.
- Confirm the platform and version. Make sure the claim applies to the PS5 edition, not another platform, and check whether it requires a particular update.
- Find the named mode and its exact target. A listing that says “Performance Mode” or “high frame rate” without a number does not establish a 60 FPS target. If the game offers several modes, check each one separately.
- If you own the game, inspect its options. Look under graphics, display, or video settings for a frame-rate target or mode, then compare what you find with the game’s official documentation.
There is no universal PS5 system screen established by these official sources that reports whether every installed or uninstalled game supports 60 FPS. The reliable check is title-specific documentation, supplemented by the game’s own settings.
How to interpret modes and targets
Frame-rate support belongs to the game and, often, to a particular mode or version. Read the target alongside any listed resolution, visual-quality features, display requirements, and platform. Published targets describe what the developer announces; they are not independent performance tests or a guarantee that every scene will hold a fixed frame rate.
For example, PlayStation’s March 6, 2025 Assassin’s Creed Shadows breakdown lists PS5 Performance Mode at 2160p upscaled and 60 FPS, and Fidelity Mode at 2160p upscaled and 30 FPS. It also lists a 40 FPS Balanced Mode requiring a 120/240 Hz display and HDMI 2.1. These are announced specifications, not measured test results.

Patch notes matter because an update can add or change options. In a May 19, 2021 announcement about The Last of Us Part II, Naughty Dog said patch 1.08 added a Display option to choose a 30 FPS or 60 FPS target. If an older page does not mention a mode, check later official updates before concluding it is unavailable.
Mode names are not standardized. PlayStation’s Rainbow Six Siege PS5 announcement describes Performance Mode targeting 120 FPS and Resolution Mode targeting 60 FPS; it also says the 120 FPS enhancements depend on the TV. The label “Performance” alone therefore cannot tell you the target.

- DualSense Controller PS5 and PC compatible. Not compatible with PS4.
- PS Remote Play requires Remote Play App connected to Wi-Fi, PS4 or PS5 console with the latest system software and compatible game. A PS4 or PS5 console with a wired connection via a LAN cable is recommended. Version 4.0 of the Remote Play App on iOS and iPadOS or version 4.1 on macOS is required for games to be playable with the controller over Bluetooth.
Keep PS5 display settings separate from game support
On the console, go to Settings > Screen and Video > Video Output to view connected HDMI-device information and adjust output settings. PlayStation’s resolution guide says the 120 Hz Output setting enables 120 Hz video output for TVs and games that support it. It concerns the console’s output signal; it is not a lookup for a game’s frame-rate target.
A compatible TV or monitor can be relevant to higher-refresh-rate modes, but checking display capability cannot establish whether a particular game offers 60 FPS. Verify the game’s target and its display requirements separately.
