Open the game’s Steam store page and look for the AI Generated Content Disclosure. Read the full developer statement: it may describe AI-generated content created during development, content generated while the game is running, promotional material, or a narrower use. Record the wording and the date you checked. If the disclosure is missing, that means no use was disclosed in that section—not that the game definitely used no AI.
Where do I find a Steam game’s AI disclosure?
Check the individual game’s store page, not a general Steam search result or a page for a different edition. Find the section titled AI Generated Content Disclosure. On a long page, use your browser’s find function to search for “AI” or “Generated.” The Steam app and a browser both provide ways to view the store page.

The developer’s wording determines what is being disclosed: a statement about one kind of content or one part of a game should not be expanded into a claim about every asset or feature.
The disclosure is attached to the store page for that particular game. Check the correct title, edition, and listing before drawing a conclusion. A page for a soundtrack, demo, bundle, or similarly named product may not carry the same statement as the main game page. If you are checking a claim made in a review or social post, return to the game’s own listing and verify the text there.

A practical checking procedure
- Open the specific game’s Steam store page. Use the Steam app or a browser and confirm that the page is for the game you intend to examine.
- Locate the disclosure. Find AI Generated Content Disclosure. If it is difficult to see on a long page, search for “AI” or “Generated.”
- Read the entire developer statement. Do not stop at a heading, a snippet, or a sentence quoted by another person.
- Identify the content named. Note whether the statement refers to artwork, audio, text, another content type, or promotional material.
- Identify where the material appears. It may be in the game, generated during play, or used on the store page and other marketing surfaces.
- Identify when generation occurs. Record whether the statement describes material made during development or content generated while the game runs.
- Save the exact wording and date. A note, screenshot, or copied passage makes your conclusion auditable. Record the date you checked because your statement is evidence of what the page said on that date.
- Compare first-party information if the claim matters. Check an attributable developer or publisher announcement, FAQ, or update note that addresses the same use.
- Write only what the evidence supports. If the wording is absent or unclear, say that the use was not confirmed from the sources you checked.
A useful record is specific and time-bound: “The store page disclosed AI-assisted promotional artwork when checked on [date].” For a page with no statement, use wording such as “I found no AI disclosure on the game’s Steam store page when I checked it on [date].” The latter reports what you observed without claiming more than the page establishes.
For repeated checks, keep a simple log with the game title, store-page URL, date, exact disclosure text, named content, location, generation timing, and any matching first-party statement. This prevents a later change in wording from being confused with what the page said earlier.

Valve’s January 2024 description distinguished between content made with AI during development and included in the game, and content generated by AI while the game runs. Those categories matter because a finished asset and a feature that creates material during play are different uses.
| What the statement describes | What it tells you | What not to assume |
|---|---|---|
| Pre-generated content | AI tools were used during development to create content included with the game. | Do not assume every asset was generated this way; look at the specific content and scope named by the developer. |
| Live-generated content | AI tools generate content while the game is running. | Do not treat this as equivalent to a fixed asset created before release; check what is generated and where it appears. |
| A named, narrower use | The developer identifies a particular content type or surface, such as artwork or marketing material. | Do not extend a limited statement to content it does not mention. |
A disclosure can name artwork, audio, text, other content, runtime generation, store-page or marketing material, or a combination. Pay attention to both what was generated and where it appears. For example, a statement specifically about promotional art does not establish that in-game art, dialogue, or audio was generated with AI. Likewise, a statement about development-time assets does not by itself say that the game generates new content during play.
“AI-generated” and “AI-assisted” should also be kept in the form used by the developer. If the statement says a tool assisted with an asset, do not rewrite it as a claim that the tool produced the entire asset. If it names one image, voice line, or text element, do not turn that into “the game was made by AI.” The safest summary preserves the developer’s level of specificity.
How should I interpret the developer’s wording?
Read the statement as a description of the use it names, not as a broad certification about the studio’s entire production process. Separate the type of material, its location, and when it was generated before drawing a conclusion.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteContent made during development
If the statement describes material created with AI during development and included in the game, note the content type and whether the developer identifies where it appears. Keep the description as narrow as the statement: “discloses AI-generated background art” is more precise than “the game is AI-generated.” A development-time disclosure tells you about material that shipped, but it does not establish that all game assets, systems, or code were produced with AI.

Content generated during play
If the statement says content is generated while the game runs, record what kind of content the developer says is produced and how the statement describes its use. This is not the same claim as saying a developer used AI tools to make a fixed asset before release. Note whether the disclosure identifies a player-facing feature, because runtime generation can affect what a player encounters rather than only what was packaged with the game.
Valve’s January 2024 announcement also described a player reporting system for illegal content encountered in games with live-generated AI. The announcement establishes that reporting was part of the described approach, but the exact current button label or route can change. If you encounter illegal material, use Steam’s current reporting options instead of relying on an old walkthrough.
Promotional or store-page material
A disclosure may concern marketing or store-page material rather than content experienced in the game. Preserve that distinction when describing it. Evidence of AI use in promotional artwork is not, on its own, evidence about the game’s internal assets or runtime features. A trailer image, capsule illustration, or other advertising element can be a separate surface from the playable content.
AI-powered workflow tools
In January 2026, Valve’s developer form was clarified to distinguish AI used to generate content for a game or during gameplay from AI-powered tools used for workflow purposes. The reported clarification says workflow tools such as code helpers do not need disclosure under that section. As a result, the store-page statement should not be treated as a complete inventory of every productivity tool a studio used; the relevant disclosure question is the content-generation use described by the form.
This distinction matters when someone asks whether a studio used an AI coding assistant, debugging helper, or similar productivity service. A missing content disclosure cannot answer that broader workflow question, and a present content disclosure does not prove that workflow tools were used. Keep the question tied to the category Steam asks developers to report.
Does a missing disclosure mean a Steam game uses no AI?
No. An absent statement establishes only that you did not find a disclosure in that section at the time you checked. It does not independently establish that no AI was used, and the form’s distinction between content generation and workflow tools is another reason not to treat the section as an inventory of all tools used by a studio.
There is a difference between not disclosed, not confirmed, and confirmed not used. “Not disclosed” is an observation about the Steam page. “Not confirmed” describes an evidence gap after checking relevant sources. “Confirmed not used” is a stronger claim and requires an attributable statement that actually supports it; a blank or missing section is not that statement.

When evidence is incomplete, describe the check you made and stop there. For example: “I found no disclosure on the Steam store page or in the developer announcement I checked; AI use remains unconfirmed from those sources.” This gives readers a way to assess the scope of the claim rather than mistaking uncertainty for proof.
Do not assume that silence has the same meaning as a denial. The disclosure section reports the content-generation uses covered by the form. It does not promise a complete list of every tool, experiment, or internal workflow a studio considered.
How can I verify or compare a disclosure?
For a consequential claim, compare the store-page text with a first-party statement from the developer or publisher, such as an announcement, FAQ, or update note. Look for an attributable source and make sure it addresses the same use. A statement about a trailer, for example, does not necessarily settle a question about in-game content.
Check that the sources refer to the same version or period when possible. Preserve separate dates rather than blending an older announcement with a newer store-page statement. If the wording differs, quote or summarize each statement and identify the scope of each one instead of choosing the broadest interpretation.

When comparing two games, avoid reducing their statements to a single yes-or-no label. Record the actual differences:
- Generation timing: Does the statement describe pre-generated material, live generation, or both?
- Content type: Does it name artwork, audio, text, or another kind of content?
- Location: Is the material in the game, generated during play, or used for marketing or a store page?
- Specificity: Does the developer explain the use clearly, or does the wording leave its scope uncertain?
- Evidence and date: When did you check the store page, and is there a matching attributable statement elsewhere?
These distinctions make it possible to describe two disclosures accurately even when both pages mention AI. A broad label can conceal materially different uses; the named content and its context are more informative. A game disclosing a single piece of promotional artwork should not be placed in the same category as a game describing live generation of player-facing text simply because both pages contain the word “AI.”
Can visual clues or AI detectors prove a game used AI?
No. An unusual image, a synthetic-sounding voice, or a detector result can prompt a closer look, but appearance alone does not establish which tools were used, how material was produced, or whether generated content shipped in the game. Prefer a direct disclosure or an attributable developer or publisher statement.

Detectors and visual inspection can produce false positives, and even a persuasive-looking artifact cannot identify the production history by itself. It may have been edited, licensed, intentionally stylized, or created with a tool that the disclosure does not cover. Treat such clues as questions to investigate, not conclusions.
If you mention a visual clue, distinguish it from confirmation: “This image raised a question, but I found no attributable statement confirming how it was made.” That is more defensible than presenting an impression or detector output as proof of a production history.
What can third-party AI-game lists tell me?
A third-party index can help locate games with tracked disclosures, but its classifications and counts should not be treated as a census of Steam AI use. One such index explicitly says its tracked disclosures do not measure all AI use across Steam; missing or unclear statements also cannot establish whether a game uses AI.
Use an index as a lead to the underlying game page or developer statement, then check that primary wording yourself. Confirm that the listed title and edition match the page you inspect, and note whether the index is describing a disclosure, an allegation, or an interpretation. Do not turn the number of entries in a tracking project into a claim about the prevalence of AI use across the whole Steam catalog.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What is the careful way to report what I found?
State the evidence and its limits in the same sentence. Identify the source, the use it actually describes, and when you checked it. If the wording is narrow, keep your description narrow; if you could not confirm the claim, say so plainly.

- Disclosure found: “The Steam page says the developer used AI-generated text for [named use]; checked [date].”
- Only a limited use identified: “The developer disclosed AI-assisted promotional artwork; that statement does not specify other game content.”
- No statement found: “I found no AI Generated Content Disclosure on the Steam page when checked [date]; use is not confirmed from that check.”
- Conflicting or incomplete evidence: Quote or summarize each attributable statement separately and note what each one covers, rather than choosing a broader conclusion than the evidence supports.
Avoid phrases such as “the whole game uses AI” unless the developer actually makes that comprehensive claim. Prefer verbs that match the evidence: “discloses,” “states,” “identifies,” or “does not specify.” If you are comparing games, present the timing, content type, location, specificity, and dates side by side so readers can see why the cases differ.
The practical standard is simple: report what the developer disclosed, distinguish development-time content from live generation, and do not convert silence, appearance, or a third-party label into proof.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I report illegal content generated by AI in a Steam game?
Valve’s January 2024 announcement described a player reporting system for illegal content encountered in games with live-generated AI. The available information here does not establish a current button label or exact reporting path, so use Steam’s current reporting options rather than relying on an old step-by-step route.
Are third-party lists of Steam games using AI complete?
No. A tracking index’s entries reflect disclosures it has tracked, not a verified count of every game or every AI use on Steam. Its own methodology caveat says missing or unclear disclosures cannot determine whether a game uses AI.
Does a Steam AI disclosure cover a studio’s use of AI to write code?
Not necessarily. The January 2026 clarification reported for Valve’s developer form distinguishes content generation for a game or during gameplay from workflow tools such as code helpers, which do not need disclosure under that section.
What should I write if the disclosure mentions only marketing art?
Describe only that confirmed use: for example, “The developer disclosed AI-assisted promotional artwork.” Do not infer that in-game art, dialogue, audio, or runtime features were generated with AI unless the statement addresses them.
Why should I record the date I checked the Steam page?
The date makes your observation precise and allows readers to distinguish the wording you saw from a later revision. Report the page text and date together, especially when a claim is disputed or consequential.
Can I conclude a game used no AI if the disclosure section is blank?
No. A blank or missing section means you found no disclosure there at that time. It does not prove that no AI was used, and it does not answer broader questions about undisclosed workflow tools.
The Bottom Line
Check the game’s own Steam page, read the complete AI Generated Content Disclosure, and record its exact scope and date. Distinguish development-time assets, live-generated content, and promotional material. A missing notice, visual clue, detector result, or third-party list cannot by itself prove whether AI was used.
