The record shows the sanction’s status and duration; Epic defines a permanent Fortnite ban as indefinite. A launch warning or a game marked unavailable is a clue, not proof that the ban is permanent.
Check your Fortnite ban status
- Sign in to the Epic Games account that may have received the sanction.
- Open Epic’s Safety Center, choose Sanctions and Appeals, then select Go to my Sanctions & Appeals.
- Review the sanction’s status, type, and duration. You can also search by Sanction ID.
- Check the email address associated with the account. Epic’s notice identifies the ban type, duration, and community rule involved.
Epic also says a ban notice may appear when you log into Fortnite, and the Epic Games Launcher may show Fortnite as unavailable. These signs do not establish the sanction’s duration; use the portal record for that.

How to tell whether the ban is permanent
Epic says temporary Fortnite bans can last up to 365 days, while permanent bans are indefinite. Look for the sanction’s duration in the account record: an indefinite duration indicates a permanent ban under Epic’s definition. Do not infer permanence from a login error, an unavailable label, or inability to enter one mode.
Check what the sanction restricts
Not every Fortnite sanction disables the entire Epic account. Epic distinguishes among sanctions with different scopes:
#1 Best Overall
- Redeemable on accounts in the United States and in U.S. Dollars.
- Gift card must be redeemed at EpicGames.com/redeem. This gift card WILL NOT work if redeemed directly on a console device (PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, etc.)
- If you play Fortnite experiences on a console device, you need to link your Epic Games account to your console account(s) so items purchased at Fortnite.com/item-shop appear across all of your linked accounts
- Requires internet connection, valid Epic account and prior acceptance of the terms
- Redemption: Online
| Sanction type | What Epic says it affects |
|---|---|
| Social ban | Voice or text chat. |
| Fortnite matchmaking ban | Entry into Fortnite experiences. |
| Epic account ban | Disables the Epic account and permanently removes rights to games and other items associated with that account. |
Use the type and scope shown in your own sanction record rather than assuming that a Fortnite restriction means your whole Epic account is disabled. Epic also notes that action may be taken against other accounts if you have multiple accounts.
If you think the ban is wrong
For an eligible player or creator ban, submit an appeal through the Sanctions and Appeals portal using the Sanction ID in Epic’s email. Epic allows one appeal per eligible sanction decision. It says the appeal receives human review and may result in the sanction being upheld, lifted, or modified. Player Support cannot appeal or review a ban on your behalf.

If an appeal is pending review, Epic’s status guidance says to contact Support for more details. For communication restrictions, Epic also directs users to the portal, although not every communication violation is eligible for appeal. If you did not receive an email, Epic says sanction details may appear in Fortnite the next time you sign in.

Epic says a permanent ban may result in losing rights to V-Bucks, cosmetics, purchased games, and Epic account balance. It also says it does not issue refunds for purchases made before a ban for Community Rules or Terms of Service violations. With a temporary ban, items remain on the account and become accessible again when the ban period ends.

- An Epic Games account is required to redeem an Epic Games Store Card code
- If playing on a console platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch or Mobile) you need to link your Epic Games account to that gaming platform (one time) to redeem your gift card code
- The 16 digit code on the back of the card WILL NOT work if redeemed directly through your gaming platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch, Mobile, etc.)
- Note: Nintendo devices do not support Fortnite Shared Wallet, so V-Bucks purchased using your account balance will not show up on your Nintendo device. However, if you purchase items in the web Item Shop — or another platform where you play Fortnite — those items will be available in your Locker across all platforms.
